  1. Hello all, after the struggle to find a car over 1 year, finally I bought a car which with the help of suggestions of you and some of my Mazda owner colleagues. Didn't like to show off the things, but the big guy @iRage asked me to do so, such that I can share my experience with you all. I had a few choices, where I began with AE/CE 110, then since I joined the forum, I was driven towards Primera (SR20) and Mark 2. Was looking for some over the time, but due to same day price increments , being too old, and due to the fact that the government won't remove the import ban anytime soon

  5. Know what? I think I seem to like the Audi eTrons, though they are based on the Porsche Taycan and the VW ID looks like they out perform them both. Big problems coming up for the competition and yes those cars look good. With the current gen petrol performance cars coming to their end of life cycle, maybe these could be your last petrol performance cars.

  6. Sri Lankans are known for making up wierd names for cars...but TRAD Sunny came straight out of Japan. In Japan it was marketed as the TRAD Sunny...TRAD being the wierd Japanese-cool abbreviation for TRADITIONAL. The tradition of the Sunny was to be a mid-sized family sedan that offered best in class features and comfort that was on the edge of contemporary technology. If you look at B210/211, B310 Sunny you will realise that they are much more engaging, had far better technical advances and features than that of its competitiors such as the Corolla and the Lancer. However, with the

  7. varotone, I went through carefully all your posts, I find you try to DIY almost all your car repairs. It is a very good way for your future about automobile maintenance. Try to keep up on DIY projects instead of going to repair shops and exhausting your purse. Will try to find some paint to apply on your exhaust manifold temperature resistant. Sylvester Wijesinghe. 9. Still more Toyotas...Lexus unveiled the 2nd generation NX today. he NX was supposed to be crossover slightly smaller than the RAV4, but lookig at the dimensions of the new one; I think it is safe to say the NX is no longer a small crossover. The new NX also showcases Lexus' very first PHEV. There are four power train choices: 2.5L PHEV (out of the RAV4 PHV/Prime); 2.5L Hybrid (out of the RAV4 and Harrier); 2.5L NA (A25A-FKS :US spec Camry/ES/RAV4) and a newly developed 2.4L Turbo unit. ALl engine choices seem to be available in both FF and e-Four or AWD layouts. RIght now these are the gl

  11. I think the old Patrol looks better than the new and old Land Cruisers and the Patrol Same said about the old Land Cruisers as well....I think it also has to do with our age. I don't find the new Land Cruiser or the Patrol appealing at all in terms of design. Looks like a cartoon car that you would see in some StarWars like story in Phinears and Ferb (you know..the boxt look with wierd angles).

  12. and history shows that @Gummybr and @ceasarprime are right. In the past vehicle prices have had sudden spikes due to taxes, currency issues, import regulation changes, national policy changes, etc...but even after these policies are riverted back or contributing factors stabilise, the prices have not come back down (at least not by that much). Even when the opposite happens (i.e. a sudden dip) like when Hybrid and EVs were given high preferential tac treatment, the market sprung up the prices of gasoline/normal vehicles even before the policies caught up and were changed. So do not expect

  14. Interesting question... On one hand the Hyundai people are correct (to an extent)...the external charging (spikes, etc..) can lead to certain electrical components in the car. But then again these are "protected" behind fuses and relays, etc...that those would get spoilt and then go on to potentially effecting the electronics. Also, if your car has some abnormal paracetic bleed then the charging is not going to work that effectively. But then the chargers don't require the battery to be removed and you can just plug and use. Lets not forget, removing the battery from the car disconne

  17. This is a typical scenario for the auto gear boxes when they wear with time and running. If you search the forum you will come across similar issues faced by the members and the solutions given. Go to a qualified and skilled garage/ mechanic who repair auto gear boxes and get your gearbox repaired. There's the option of replacing the gear box with a used one as well. You can go with either one depending on the status of your current gear box, cost of both options and parts availability.

  22. Congratulations ! She is a beauty . Welcome to the Mazda Family, As you rightly have said, it’s worth the time and money spent. Sadly, with lockdown it’s not possible to do some run- around SL, specially out of Colombo – to appreciate the suspension and grip she has when taking on bends. Simply follow the maintenance routine and stick with the correct parts, oils and other and she will be running smooth – I feel you will hold on to her more than 2 years – it’s hard to let go 😄 Best of luck and stay safe. 🍻

  23. No..they only cancelled the 6 and the CX3. The CX5 is right now Mazda's best selling model globally followed on by the CX-8/9. The CX-3 was planned to be cancelled for awhile with the introduction of the MX-30 (gasoline and pure electric vehicle in the same class). However, the adoption of the MX-30 also has been somewhat sluggish. The Atenza was renamed as the Mazda 6 even in Japan since last year. In Japan it has not done well at all for the last few years (in an already dwindling Japanese sedan market which the Camry and the Crown seem to be the only ones that are selling anything). Ma

  25. Congratulations ! She looks pretty good and the scratches and swirls are not visible at all at first glance (there are cars that are far far worst). Black is a rather elegant color and if you give it a good paint restoration and keep it waxed/sealed...it will be like a mirror <pain to maintain though>. I do beleive you will keep her for longer than 1-2 years though Especially is you love it. In SL there are not many other options. So...as the enxt step...can we slowly drive you towards saving some money for some tasty upgrades ? Enjoy and drive safe

  29. If you want value for money - go for Mitsubishi (unless you want a classic lancer Box - ridiculously overpriced now) CS series cars are attractively priced. Toyota's are bought whole sale by the buy-and-sell crowd. Honda's are bought by dudes who watched too much movies and youtube and both fetch crazy prices. For a while now Nissan's were reasonably priced - not the case now. Hyundais - no experience. Fair Price - parts are not like unicorn tears (can be found) might be a good option. Have a heard a lot of bad about the B14 - my dad had one for 12 years or so - it certainl

  31. The other issue is people do not realise the difference between a tank average and a trip average (for the most part because their Vitzies and Premios have it written in Japanese and they have no idea what it actually says) Yes..the car needs to be flat..but for the most part petrol sheds by default do remain levelled. Filling ot the brim can be tricky as sometimes the bleeder valve/line circulates the fuel so you do not really know if it is actually filled to the brim or not. Besides, most manufacturers do not recommend you fill right to the cap because of, in the past, pressure in the

  32. Easy way out, leave the detailing to Professionals. Ive seen a lot of bodge jobs and errors by people not knowing what they are doing and ending up ruining paint and since preserving your factory paint is of utmost value dont do it if you dont have the tools and chemicals and most importantly the experience to do it right. Contact me if you want detailing done, I run The Ultimate Detail Bay in Borella.

  33. Toyota...not cost effective anymore. Cars are over priced in SL...good parts at reasonable prices are hard to come by (very limited sources) and the only way most people maintain a Toyota in a cost effective manner is by using cheap knock-off parts. Had a Sonata back in the day (actually the company still has it...I just don't use it). It works...little niggles here and there (granted it is a car that gets abused day in and day out). Parts are okay price wise but not as easily found as the popular Japanese makes. Nissans are okay...as long as it is the right Nissan. Just stay away fr

  34. Nice post Dhaham Yup that's how I general do it - Pump full to the top and then see the millage . As a habit I keep topping up every week so my tank /glass is always 1/2 full or empty in that way you look at it 🙂 I've seen BJ's been advertised as doing 12-13 Km on Colombo and over 20km outstation - maybe they used wind power such as mast and a sail. I hear there are some stories about a fuel hike also on the way ....

  35. Driving pleasure wise the Suzuki is far better than the others. Toyota Cami and Terios are essentially the same vehicle. It is just that the second generation onwards the Cami was renamed as Rush. So within the same model year the Cami/Terios/Rush will be the same vehicle. Onlything in the Cami there was a slightly smaller version called Cami Jr. In Cami refers to the first generation and Terios refers to the second generation which came as a Toyota Rush. Parts wise I beleive both might be more or less the same for mechanical parts. Parts are used across several other models so will

  39. Well..the Primera is a fun to drive executive saloon. It has a decent amount of power..good driving feel...good handling...nice interior and features/accessories. The City is an entry level car from Honda (City is the export/brand new variant and Fit Aria is the variant for the Japanese market..both came out of the same factory in Thailand). It has a good driving feel (compared to something like a Vios)...interior feels and looks okay..but being an entry level budget sedan it does not feel as nice or as comfortabe as a a Primera. It is a seven seater SUV which is quite specious inside with a feeling of full blown SUV when driving. It is rarely seen in the roads yet , however its road presence is elegant .Its 200mm road clearance is very safe for Sri Lankan roads . It has a 1500 cc turbocharged engine with a Punch Powertrain Continuously Variable Transmission which is made in Belgium . This engine / transmission combination is very economical comparing what sam

  47. To start with the Japanese domestic models, its starts with X,G(1500cc), G-limited and Luxel. Luxel is the highest grade of the corolla series which comes with a chasis (ZZE 122) and has a 1800cc engine with unique auto tranny. G and X does good on fuel for short distance. Xli,Lx limited and Gli( 1600cc) are all export models and they come with lesser options when compared to the JDM models in the 121 series. From my piont of view, i am using a 122(luxel) in the city with mix traffic with sensible driving i get figures of 11km per litre. Outstation get figures of 15+ km. Quite happy with the
