  1. A sports car that wants to go to the moon and back... Meet Mr. Sasaki...he is the proud owner of this amazingly clean looking A80 Supra which he bought brand new 23 years ago. Big deal..yeah...plenty of those around. But what makes this Supra special is that it has 520,000kms on the clock and the owner has a (realistic) aim of reaching 760,000km. Why not a million ? Because he beleives that he will not live that long although the car would 🙂 He had purchased a SZ grade A80 Supra (so NA 2JZ engine) because the Turbo variants (RZ grades) were too expensive; but a LOT has been spe

  2. Bit of an off topic rant....this is the wonder of us human beings breaking the cycle of life....we have uncontrolably urbanised our environment that it is hard to maintain (i.e. there is garbage everywhere with infestation of rats)..then to add to it...we have driven away animals such as thalagoyas and garadiyas by destroying their habitat. To add insult to injury..we have turned cats in to such cushy arm chair ornaments that cats these days just sit around and stare at the rat in utter and total ego driven boredom. So my response to your problem is: 1. Clean up the neighborhood and

  5. Members, My land in Colombo 00300 was owned by our family, originally there was many members who had shares in this land. When the last most senior member expired in year 1945 it was sold as all owners for the entire land was unable to come for a settlement how should they divide the Colombo 00300 land. In year 1946 put in for sale by a Court order in Public Auction. Auctioneer had to give first preference to my late father because he was occupying the entire land, was given to him in year 1931 by the last living co-owner of the land who was controlling all the family important matt

  6. Time for a long overdue update on the project. It's back on the road. Actually, it was on the road for a little more than an year now and clocked 25,000 km after the (partial) restoration. Project had to be finished off quickly because I needed a beater car as soon as possible. So, I decided the cosmetic aspects can wait a while (hence the lack of photos of the car). Soon after the full tinkering and painting, rebuilt the engine, serviced the transmission and differential and it was on the road. Upholstery, seats, carpets can wait. I wanted a fully functional safe and fairly comforta

  7. Some solid advice from the people above really. Best off keeping your money safe for now. I'll just add my two cents though and this reciprocated with what @iRagesaid near the end. Small houses do get rented quick, especially in peaceful areas. Just like how there are tons of outstation people trying to migrate to Colombo, there are also people trying to get away from crowded towns. So far this month alone, we've had nearly 3 families asking to rent out our 2nd floor and one guy wanted the 3rd floor for business purposes, to open up a small scale garments factory of sorts. Even

  8. Well..theoretically...the X-Trail was shown and released earlier (as the Rogue). Yeah...but you know how Sri Lankans are...they run behind and praise a car because its cheap (which it would have been due to the lower tax bracket) ..and then when it does not have a mainenance schedule equal to that of a sewing machine and gets 0.0034% lesser than their life goal of 21.3672kmpl..they go and demonize it. See what they have done to the Civic !!! Poor car...

  9. Not really....Toyota has plenty of boring cars but those are the usual super market runners. The 4Runner is probably the only Toyota car that still carries the old school Toyota way of doing things....if you look at old Toyotas they were designed and built to be understanted and bland...for the average non-caring...kmpl counting Marys and Joes. However, they also took these land cars..did some tweaks that turned them in to completely different creatures for the more youthful and passionate at heart. The 4Runner is one of the few cars that still can pull that off.

  10. Manufacturers use the front engine rear motor layout for AWD systems because it is more efficient and less complicated. If you maintain the mechanical/traditional rear layout, then the electric motor drive has to engage at a transmission/drive train level (as opposed to just the engine cutting off and the motor taking over) to offer power assist to the drive wheels. This is exactly what Honda does...Honda's Hybrid systems are two motor systems (AWD and FF vehicles)...one motor is the engine assisting motor and the other is a motor that moves the differentials (i.e. the drive train). So it is n

  11. Honda SUV e:Prototype Honda is to launch 10 EV vehicles in China within the next 5 years and they all will be based on the SUV e:Prototype concept. I suppose this will also start trickling in to other markets that are pushing for mass electrification and ban on ICE vehicles in 10 years time... One of many PHEVs was also revelaed...the Honda Breeze (I feel it sort of looks like an overgrown Civic wagon..or in other words...design queues of the next gen CR-V maybe ?)

  12. Toyota's BZ4x concept...EV crossover After a few months of teasing...today also saw the reveal of the Toyota-Subaru joinly developed crossover (the AWD system has been jointly developed with Subaru...no idea why considering toyota has done its own with the Direct 4 (upcoming in Lexus) and GR-Four systems...) BZ is apparently Toyota's vision of electrification and beyond and it seems there will be a whole host of vehicles that would be joinly developed with the likes of Suzuki, Daihatsu and BYD that would meet different market and segment needs.

  13. Nissan X-Trail We finally get to see the X-Trail (global) variant of the Rogue...there isn't much of a difference. Surprisngly only a 1.5L Variable Compression Turbo engine mated to a new CVT capable of higher torque was announced today, whilst there were some rumors and aniticaption for an e-Power variant. It is hoped that the ePower variant would be announced for the Japanese market later this year (during the Tokyo Motorshow which was to be held this year); which probaby would be the case as Nissan does tend to first launch (or restrict) the ePower to the Japanese market (first).

  14. Mine is at 29K now and I’m seeing little peel off on one of the tyres. They were rotated at every service and occasionally I too get DWS warning that air is lower. on the potential replacement, i did a small analysis based off the review ratings on tyrereviews[dot]co[dot]uk for those tyres which are available for purchase in Sri Lanka. Based on that the highest overall rating was for Continental ContiMaxContact MC5 and Yokohama BluEarth ES32. However, cost wise Yokohama is much cheaper and you should be able to secure a tyre for about 27-30K each (prices do vary from place to pl

  15. Ok so a bit about the stock Michelin Primacy 3 tyres that came with the Civic. My mileage is about 27k km and my tyres are quite messed up already. It has this kind of chipping and peeling of the tread on all 4 tyres. They are rotated around every service, I don't drive like a maniac and they're always filled up to the recommended 32psi. The tyre shop folks say that they have lots of complaints about Michelin tyres as they seem to wear off faster "in SL". I've heard this "in SL" argument many times before from different joints and I am not too sure about what to make of it. One of those

  16. Members, Property appreciation is the most profitable thing in Sri alanka or any City in the world. I will post on to the thread moderators had allowed out of automobile matters to post to me.How Colombo propriety had appreciated in last 75 years. Also agricultural land had appreciated in last 30 years. Please log into that thread. Sylvester Wijesinghe Sylvi.

  17. @isurudesilva14..welcome to the AL forum. I merged your two threads together as they seem to be related. This way you will be able to get better repsonses from other members because it is easier for them to answer. As for your problem....if you had a front collision, that very well could be the reason your front sensors are not working (sensors broken, cabling broken, etc...). Thus, getting the sensors to work could might as well be a part of fixing the collion itself. When you fix the front collision, make sure you select a place who can fix the sensors as well.

  18. I believe that Nissan has all those models, Juke, Kix, X Trail, Dualis, Murano and on the other side not fully electric but a very good product like iRage mentioned in the Note ePower (there was an article where it states that it has achieved 53% thermal efficiency whereas the average is around 40%.) This engine they are pushing into most of their products now, including the Kix.

  19. Yes it is....but then now I beleive they have taken a bit more concervative and sensible approach with their partnerships by extending its platform/tech sharing and dividing up the market space. In Japan Nissan got some decent market share with the KIX (or however you write it)...but then soon lost to the Yaris Cross...the only model that has consistant market share for them in Japan is the Note...

  20. Great to hear...but didn't you change the plugs at the first tune up you mentioned ? What had happened to the plugs though ? For a low mileage car its hard to imagine that the plugs would get spoilt even after 10years. Shocked to hear about the ECU though.

  21. Well...it can go either way to be honest...yes the car has been running for 13 years and for those who are looking to buy a GTR...it really is not attractive anymore. Thus, the reason for all these special editions...Nissan just keeping the flame alive so that those who want one has something better and different than what was offered before. Now...although the car has been running for 13 years...I don't think at a global level there are that many cars. At the beginning the car was cost prohibitive (lets not forget the base R34 GTR was 4mil yen++ whist the R35 started at 7.5mil yen. Then after

  22. Agreed! From the Pickwick papers? Hmm...Not too sure about that. Despite being pretty heavy and almost comically named (TRX vs RAPTOR vs GLADIATOR vs ZRX...) I think these whacky big trucks are well received! But then again, stick anything on a pickup style chassis and the Americans go all weak at the knees, no matter how impractical...🥴 Case in point a true Pickwick on skates: With side mirrors so big that they create a blind spot for your forward veiw, and an aluminum box that is ribbed (for your pleasure)!! Even Dicken's couldn't make that stuff up !! America-Honestl

  23. Members, There are few work shops in Colombo and close to Colombo who do Hybrid car battery repairs. What they do is change a good battery cell from a good battery, change in to the faulty cell. Later they recharge the repaired battery in a correct way give a very short time of guarantee and send off. I know few of those who repair H/B battery's, they them self say it is not a very good solution for the repaired battery. Those battery repairers say they help H/B car owner's to use the vehicle for some time with a very low cost instead of spending money for a new battery. I remem
