DIY Glove boxes When I bought the car there were no original glove boxes. So decided to make by myself as a DIY task in the post corona period. Here are some images of it. Used a thin Aluminum sheet as the base metal. The size for one glove box is 36"x8".11 points

Hey Matroska. It’s nice to see another EP71 user in the forum. I’ve been using one since 2007. Though I have used one EP82 and couple of EP91s the Boxy was the one fascinated me most so I was eyeing for a one for some time. Since my preference was a two door car with reasonable body shape finally settled for an EP76 van for 475000. Sadly cars of those kinds are now in the hands of people who couldn’t afford for the required maintenance. So mine was of the same. Bringing in it to a standard of my choice was actually a painful and time and consuming job but I enjoyed every step of that. So5 points

Am an outdoor kinda person who likes to travel, this curfew was killing me so bad that I have been using the Samurai to go down to the the adjoining land. This helps the vehicle have a bit of running and for me to enjoy. So I thought of doing a video of it going through some obstacles. Sadly couldnt get more videos as I was relying on a cinnamon bush to hold the phone.3 points

So coming down from Bambarakanda I lost one of the headlamp lenses which put back driving for a coupe of weeks until the LED's came. The end product is as follows, From this, to this -3 points

@fiat fan @Kavvz that's SL alright, near the walking path behind the parliament, there's a hospital there as well, pretty beautiful, there's a junction with an Army run shop and across the road people set up shops (inside their cars) and sell stuff. I'm bad at explaining where it is so here's a link https://goo.gl/maps/bDykrNshfCg9WbGR7 Roads around the parliament are perfect for flooring it ?2 points

You sir, are a legend! Made my day seeing how beautifully that has turned out.2 points

Wow! Came on AL after a long while and I'm not disappointed. This is absolutely brilliant. Keep it up @kusumsiri. What a legend!2 points

hi machan. as much as it looks lovely there, the paint wasn't right. had to get the black accents done later on the front and rear bumpers. she's pending a full paintjob anyways. apart from that the honda is more or less done. i'm toying about with an idea for a digital dash, but that's it for now. it just runs, and i'm happy with it doing just that. the datsun is finished too. just some final touches on it. i mean they never really finish do they? its getting a new clutch etc but the shipment is stuck with kapruka global shop and isn't looking pretty at the moment. me2 points

Thank you for this! In a world with hideous so called hatchbacks posing as 4x4s And mpg crap, value for money, euros This Is like therapy, made my day!2 points

@Sir Lancerlot @Hyaenidae @AVANTE the yanks call burgers, Sandwiches. Its sometimes confused cos of that. Its actually a cheeseburger!2 points

I swear I was checking out some FD4s on the adsites when I heard the notification bell. I'd love a Euro Sedan any day (406, Jetta MK5, E46, W124, you name it). It's just that maintaining one from our area is a bit of an exercise. For now, we have to stick to japs, not like that's a bad thing. Also, I'd say any econobox is in vain for us Kanda uda guys. 1.15 hours and that too without a fine? I'm seriously impressed. FD1s seem like a bargain now, maybe because of the 1.8 that disappoints the Thel worshippers. For now I'll stick to jangis. Easier to get away trouble-free & complaint fr2 points

Congratulations on your purchase and best of luck with the mods! Nice write-up @matroskaI had several bouts of breathless laughter while reading this. Level of dedication needed to maintain the uno, color scheme of riced up Nilkamal civics... ?Oh man! Where can I read more of this stuff? I read Komisiripala's book only recently and I wasn't disappointed ?1 point

Hahahah! Great post! Another Starlet owner who can't swim ? Cute little car, been thinking of swapping a 4EFTE on my EP91 as well (Different pistons, manifold, springs, turbo) should easily do it, not sure about the process of a 2E to 4EFTE conversion, saving up the money will be the issue ahhaha, I was quoted 300k for a 4EFTE swap with the Glanza Auto 5 Speed box. If you have the chassis code you can type it into ToyotaDIY.com and see the trim and color it left the factory with, should help you in identify what trim (DL/XL or whatever it left the factory was). If you want some1 point

Always enjoy reading your blogs, great writeup again ! And you have chosen a sensible option I would say. Something we can park anywhere (legally of course :D) and go, something to do all the dirty stuff without worrying of scratches, dents or bird poo etc. Something which can go over humps, trenches with no regret, Such a peace of mind ! ? But when its a beater, I guess the key thing is keeping the money you put in to the car to minimum. Not getting too carried away with the modifications and upgrades, or else we are losing the objective of a beater car.1 point

Loved the write-up! Its been a while since something written this well came up on AL: Love it! ?1 point

Not sure about Germans, this feature was there in Crown since the 80s. There are little quirky features too like the front passenger could be adjusted from the rear seats, there are buttons on the right had side of the front passenger seat, You can see those buttons on this pic Theres also a button inside the glove box to lock the trunk. Apparently this button is there to keep the luggage in the boot safe when handing over the car to valet parking.1 point

The two vents on the middle could be made to move left and right automatically watch from 4:081 point

Nothing short of impressive! Never have I been so excited by seeing a glove box before.1 point

No worries, that way too as I guess you can always repaint it as needed (No big deal, I think this is how the army do it on the ceramonial / operational gun carriages and associated jeeps/ troop carrier vehicles they roll out for prades and those always look great...)1 point

Even if a certain colour develops a tinge, a good cut/polish will restore original hue. No paintjob job drastically changes colour unless due to sub-par prep work, incorrect mixing or the clear coat gone bad. Mr/Doctor Siripala, If only there was someone who tried to warn you about the sh*tty paintjob you were getting...Oh wait!1 point

Ah! True. My apologies...To each his own. Conversion therapy practitioners are pretty much fraudsters anyways!1 point

lol ! We might have to come up with some extreme conversion therapy for you; where we take away all your car keys for a week and assign you that 3-wheel driver from Colpetty with the shagpile roof for all your errands!1 point

After doing all this the vehicle failed the Eco test, which I believed was due to the rich mixture going into the carb, so i got a friend from office to tune it and now it runs like a dream. I was thinking of taking off all the red from the interior and decided against it as it would consume more time to get it back to the original. The previous owner has spent too much doing it up and he had done up the interior well enough and I didnt want to spoil it. maybe down the line if I come across a good interior I might be tempted but for now I'm keeping my disco interior.1 point

See? Destiny... Bro I was gonna have an Alfa in kandy, BMW should be a breeze compared. Get the FD1. The FD4 has 2kmpl less and literary no options what so ever. The whole point in buying an FD1 is the value for money and looks. You get these only on fd1 sunroof pedal shifters Cruise control(fd4 can be done aftermarket) Leather(most) Double din panel included(99%)(aftermarket ok) Climate control ac with the small screen was standard. Im getting old, I cant remember the rest. So yes. Get the FD1, get a mugen bodykit, coilovers, straight1 point

Nice review, this was one of my wifes first cars, bought one in 2017 after the kei boom Few suggestions, get some dust trap carpeting done, including the rear exposed metal areas, And mudflaps! Very rare but useful. Also installing fog lamps is a diy job, u can get em off ebay, Ours was a less blingy one but I'm sure it did 19 to 20kmpl given that we ran it inclines and slopes, Also the pulling power was decent for its size, manage about 2 100kg persons plug luggage when needed. Its size and economy made it very useful, so much we used it quite often, One1 point

A very comprehensive and descriptive review. Really explained ups and downs of the vehicle. Also I found the fuel economy comparison really informative. Plus this review changed my view on this vehicle completely. Thanks for this. Hope that ppl may find this informative.1 point

One previous owner converted the wiring to negative earth and an alternator also fixed. It is a 3 wire alternator having inbuilt regulator. But the control box fixed as a dummy.1 point

Update : Repairing the gearbox The second gear popped out several times while carrying the car to home. Also 1st gear had a bad noise. So decided to open the box and check. This is my first experience of repairing a gearbox. So went through the workshop manual few times before try it. But it was not that much complex as I thought . Above images are the initial status of gearbox. Firstly noticed that there was very low oil amount inside it while manual says its 1.3 liters. The speedometer cable & drive pinion was missing and that could be the reason to fill oil partially.1 point

First of all, Sri Lanka is NOT the land of honking. If you think that's the case, you haven't been to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam or any other Asian country, even Thailand for that matter. Honking is relatively less in Sri Lanka compared to most of our neighbours. I am not promoting honking at all. I don't want morons who sit in front of a computer to tell the whole world that we are worst at something when we are really not. Secondly, it is very unethical to blatantly copy-paste tonnes of text. I would say it's more unethical than honking at random.1 point
