Sweet childhood memories where there was no internet and the only viper we saw was on Wednesdays at 9.00pm on swarnavahini followed by discussions on the said episode the following day during free periods.

5.75" Halo Angel Eye Headlights Sri Lanka
Watchman replied to chamatharavinda's topic in General Automotive
Honestly I still think it's a pretty bad idea. I just took the photo above, pulled down the colour curve (to simulate darkness) Having seen the original I personally cant say if this is the front of a SUV or the back of a pickup. Imagine overtaking a bus in the night and you see this in front of you. -
5.75" Halo Angel Eye Headlights Sri Lanka
Watchman replied to chamatharavinda's topic in General Automotive
Not to mention it's RED in colour! No driver with any common sense would fit red lights as headlights! You' don't want to be driving along thinking you're following the tailights of the car in front, but they happen to be the headlights of the oncoming car. PS: This idea is even more idiotic than having blue signal indicators. (Care to guess who came up with that idea) -
THe veyron is 8.0 too. The first gen viper was 8. Dodge found the 8.0 too small and it's now 8.4.

On the topic of retarded politics, did anyone listen to 'balumgala' last friday. So the hosts call up a number of politicians and quiz them about their plans for the new year as leaders of our nation and thier opinions on geopolitical issues affecting Sri Lanka. The responses are more depressing than they are appalling.

+1 The sad truth and the pitfalls of democracy.

Hahahaha!!! Considering the current state of affairs, that is the MOST believable explanation so far.

I'm not sure of the scientific aspects of this, but I have heard a lot of people say that in tropical countries such as ours, with grading drops about 10 when running so 30 heats down to 20, and 50 to 40 etc...

Am I the only one seeing this in a very different light here. The organizers of this event to have conducted this two times already, would have had the relevant city/police/sports authorities' permission to hold this event. For a moment let's forget who the organizers were or the influence they had to make it happen. Sri Lanka is still a democracy where a parliament passes laws, the laws then take effect, and the law enforcement makes sure all laws are followed. No-where in this process-flow can the president just butt in and impose bans at his whims and fancies. This is NOT a monarchy. How f%$ked up is our country that when something like this happens, the lawlessness of this process is completely drowned out.

Enough aspects of 'agent maintenance' has been given on this thread thus far for an intelligent person to arrive at their own decision based on their preferences and budgets. You would be quite naive if you thought there was a 'simple' answer. You're just going around beating a dead horse here.... You're asking for a definitive answer to a subjective question. It's as good as asking "guys what's best looking colour, and i everyone's consensus on ONE colour."

Do you really expect the agent to do a wheel alignment check, battery check, electronics and sensor checks for every routine service? You have to realize such things costs time and resources. If they DO perform all these checks as part of a normal servicing, a normal service would take a day or so and cost a arm and a leg. Besides, with electronics and sensors, why try to fix it if it's not broken. Weren't you soiling your jangi just a few days ago on how expensive agent related services are? Your husband is sure gonna have a hard time satisfying you!

Mazda Demio Or Honda Fit(Not Hybrid)?
Watchman replied to Carfreak's question in Car Buying Information
No-one asked you about your car, right? and I hope you realize that "enough" is a relative term. If you want to knit-pick on things as trivial and stupid as air-con and having no friends, why don't you befriend him and drive him to work. Else just drop it and get lost from this thread. You're adding less value here than my lame jokes. -
Mazda Demio Or Honda Fit(Not Hybrid)?
Watchman replied to Carfreak's question in Car Buying Information
Dude, did you get hit in the head or something? you're now arguing to support MY point. He does love his civic, and I have him a solution where he got to keep his civic, not sell it off for a boring hatchback. -
I know!! The producer does a great job portraying the passion of cars/racing as opposed to making it an action flick with a car-race. It also gave me a craving for some retro porn

Mazda Demio Or Honda Fit(Not Hybrid)?
Watchman replied to Carfreak's question in Car Buying Information
What can I say, I try to be funny to keep myself awake. It gets pretty boring sitting in a security-booth all day watching a CCTV screen of a good-for-nothing warehouse that we aren't even allowed to know what's inside. But in all honestly, I really DID mean what I suggested. Why is it so abstract to you? The OP's problem isn't that he needs to buy his first car or that his car is bad. It's money that goes into fuel consumption. THAT is the problem I have a solution to. And if he carpools with 2 other buddies he will save at least 50% of his petrol cost. A saving he wont get with either of the 2 cars he mentioned. We here at AL, don't look down on people who's income doesnt have a surplus to buy/maintain a car. We aren't as condescending as you to think that taking a bus or a motorcycle is beneath us. I myself can't afford a car, so I ride a motorcycle. And excuse me for nor making each thread a history lesson, or repeating something that's already been said. Over the years our AL community has become pretty rich in knowledge to a level where everyone does NOT need to contribute to every single thread. -
isn't the petrol filter changed at every service?

Well, like any large business the agent too has a LOT of overheads starting from the receptionist, air conditioned waiting room, HR department, garage foreman, advertising/marketing, foreign training for thier mechanics, cost of a sizable plot of land and hig-tech building etc. These are things that your neighbourhood garage doesnt have. All these costs are recovered by factoring it into your repair and parts. Not to mention having to fulfil the owner/stakeholders expectation of greater profits. It's not unreasonable when running a large business. Your question on "if its justifiable", then the answer is very subjective. And theoretically replacing the broken part with a new one IS the better option, but it's not always the cheapest. Example your steering rack; you had a leaking oil seal. The cheaper option is to replace that ONE oil seal that leak and run it till another oil seal starts leaking. But, if you had replaced ALL the seals or the entire rack, your rack would be trouble fee for much longer. So which is better? and which is cheaper? In my personal opinion I feel that in a market like sri lanka, where labour is often cheaper than parts, it's more economical to try fix just the component that's broken rather than try to minimize labour by doing fewer "all in one go" repairs.

The conventional sri lankan response to it: dan car eka thel bonawa athi But on a serious note, that's some serious fuel starvation if it was in the low 30s when needing nearly double that.. When you say filer do you mean the one at the engine, or the one in the tank?
-
So basically this whole thread was for the OP to say "whatever the agent fixes for XXX rupees i can fix for 1/10the the price..." woopeee!!

Mazda Demio Or Honda Fit(Not Hybrid)?
Watchman replied to Carfreak's question in Car Buying Information
If petrol expense is the only reason you want to get rid of the car that you love so much, why not 1. take a bus every now and again 2. carpool 3. buy a motorcycle -
Simplest reason is that it's not the agent's or manufactur's best interest is not to save YOU money. It's better for them to ask you to put in a new part and YOU foot the bill, than they try to cut corners/cost and get a bad reputation for a half-ass job. Heck, if they could they'll ask you to throw away the car and buy a new one PS: the only thing the agent has the upper hand is when it come to electronic diagnostics. Not all repair shops have such brand/model specific diagnostics equipment.
-
What Mahesh said was to check what brand/grade of oil the car needs. If you can get it from your friend cheaper. then why do you want to waste people's time asking for places to buy oil?

Help With Making A Decision On Buying 2Nd Hand Vehicle
Watchman replied to gayanW's topic in General Automotive
The reason you would buy a hybrid is if you want to save on fuel; and that's not a concern for you. But 3 of the 4 options you gave are hybrids. I guess there's another aspect to this story that you haven't told us... Based on what others have recommended in the past I think the Mazda 3 should also be a good option to consider. Supposed to be bit more fun! -
