@Dileepa12xgiven the current climate and the lack of job security as @GK_007 also mentioned personally i would be very uncomfortable taking a loan in these troubled times That said the Picanto seems like a good option

If a Brand New car had a long delivery time after manufacturing
Devinda_Z replied to Dhaham's question in Car Buying Information
@vitz is this first hand or local (long) term review or just what the European automotive journalists have to say?? If it's the latter then just be warned that they aren't exactly the most objective bunch neither are they the best an judging what will hold up the best in the real world or worse still our harrowing tropical local conditions? -

Auto Industry Jobs - Looking for Motoring Related Work
Devinda_Z replied to farshad str's topic in General Automotive
As time goes by there might be niche opportunities for skilled craftsmen like panel beaters etc for restoration work - it's harder and harder to find good tinkers and the like these days- 8 replies

True @tilvin Despite preferring the looks of the T-190 generation being partial to that shape having had an AT-192 Carina MYROAD for over a decade i wouldn't mind that ST-210 generation drivetrain with the 3S-GTE http://en.japanclassic.ru/booklets/107-toyota-caldina-2000-at211-st210.html http://en.japanclassic.ru/booklets/toyota-caldina-1992-t190.html

Acrylic paint since it's likely PU right?
-
@fiat fan on the subject of B5's and Quattro's that red one was for sale some months ago.... Would that be a simpler place to start your project from??
-
@tilvin off topic but why did you go with a Caldina? It's one of the less popular / more uncommon Japanese options out there...

@Gummybr don't think we missed that slightly questionable looking shifter - there's a Thora joke to be made but i'll steer clear and instead just offer a solution and propose a nice HURST shifter or gear knob? ? https://www.holley.com/brands/hurst/ Perhaps even a pistol grip if you want to keep things as interesting as that existing one suggests ? https://www.shifterdoc.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?pageStyle=h&ProdSort=3&page=6&idCategory=52&viewAll=yes

@Gummybr nice to see some of the old crowd still skulking about ? Interesting project ? Speaking as someone who endured a "mas kade" red interior for 3 more years than he should have I can assure you that it is in your best interest to have an upholstery bloke look at it and suggest some options - you and anyone who has to ride with you will thank you for it. Also in our weather PU/pleather/vinyl is no one's friend ?
-
Hmmm @ajm the steering wheel and interior fabric suggest originally pre-face list. The ADR also was on the mid 90's units only right @fiat fan?
-
@fiat fan congratulations on your 400th post Was that white one the car that was in Mt. Lavinia?? Which B5 do you have now? Brave man to have/have had multiple ?

Daihatsu Mira LA300S user review
Devinda_Z commented on petrolHead1's blog entry in Owner Car Reviews
@SureshA FYI -
Interesting Mr @Sylvi Wijesinghe? Whilst agreeing with your sentiment you've got me worried about the horsepower loss seeing as i've only got 67-69 in the old Land Rover 2.5 N/A diesel. 25 years and 300,000 kms on if I lose or have lost that many a year I must be fortunate to be able to get all 2 tonnes moving these days

Perhaps even a Suzuki Swift? However since the Viva was what was suggested perhaps be a little creative and pick up a Daihatsu Mira on which the Perodua is based and shares components with for a slight discount? Noticed a few Mira Esse's on Ik@m@n for a little less than an equivalent Viva despite being made in Japan

I get the distinct impression that it's not a shipping issue but rather an approval issue with relation to the Export controller that is the real concern here ?
-
It certainly was one of the more pleasant looking 90's Japanese sedans that made it's way here Mechanically the same as the AE100 series Corolla's if i'm not mistaken Should be reliable but keep in mind these are still 25 year old cars now Body parts will be less common than a similar vintage Corolla or even Carina but they were decent cars to run AFAIK

Mazda 2 2015 Hatchback with SkyActiv
Devinda_Z replied to Trump's question in Car Buying Information
@sathyajithj99 your surprise is fair but this i will concede - the Mazda 2 feels a little floaty over 90 in that it doesn't feel as planted as a Euro car would on the highway nor as well insulated as a big Japanese sedan might. It doesn't like crosswinds either but these are minor considering that neither are major issues when driven at/under the speed limit. @zebra speed is often relative so when you say slow to get up to speed are we talking 100 kmph or beyond? -
Car Jerks when switching from EV to Engine Mode

95 Octane is the best we have here is it not? In which case you might need to you an Octane Booster like Liqui Moly SpeedTec or something from Wurth or STP As for the thinner oil wouldn't the mileage the vehicle has run have a bearing on that? -
I've used the Liqui Moly product (Klima Fresh I think it's called) but I don't think it gets viruses - just bacteria but not sure
-
Not that I know of @AVANTE The put the machine in the car and run it for a while - you see the whole car fog up. Then it's run with the AC etc. as well Finally when it clears out and there is no visible residue is when you get back in I know it works on odour. The disinfecting efficacy I don't quite know how to check ?
-
@Tedsorry to hear of your misfortune but this is kind of why sometimes it is worth paying a premium to a qualified professional technician to get an important job done rather than working with some random inexperienced careless mechanic. When things go wrong you realise the folly and false economy
-
@Maddy just a thought what if you were to retrofit a CAT from another similar vintage / engine capacity Toyota?

@AVANTE there is also the car nano disinfectant anti bacterial fogger which is effectively a machine that pumps vapour in to the car which is said to kill bacteria. I know a bloke who uses these machines on his fleet and there's apparently a car detailer who also uses a similar device
