  1. Truly enjoyed the meet Andrew..... Super job organizing!! hope we can have another one soon....
  2. The one in the paper is a basic spec.... 3A Motor and Rear drum brakes....
  3. Judging by the stuff you've listed in your profile I doubt we will recognize it! Looking forward to seeing the results though
  4. had the privilege of being given a ride in this beast a year or so ago when it was still white and a Work in progress at the time..... and DAMN!!!! back then it was estimated to be running around 300 BHP and even with that it was Insanely rapid!! it must FLY now I guess....
  5. the one in the papers wasnt it? its apparently somewhere in wattala...
  6. What you have done here is ask for opinion about a lift kit and then started a Montero Vs Prado Comparison.... If you insist that you know better then the people at the leading 4x4 Magazines then we cant really say much more to that... what the people here were pointing out (and mind you several people on this forum have extensive experience of using both vehicles) was that the prado was a demonstrably better vehicle all round... that im afraid, is a fact. for the record, The two most capable production off road vehicles in the world today.... The Land Rover Defender and the Jeep Wrangler, Use Live Axles.
  7. It essentially means that the Fuel injection is controlled electronically, Via an ECU http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_fuel_injection More efficient than older Mechanical injection systems... somewhat more complex to fix in certain situations. have you decided firmly on going for that particular vehicle?
  8. Congrats Dims!!! you made the right choice mate!! best of luck with her!
  9. excuse me? a Fire Hydrant? in a CAR?? what gave you that idea?
  10. part of a rather large collection of old cars in varying states of decay mate the blue BM is actually in Reasonably decent nick and a spot of recommissioning should see it on the road.... of course the owner is one of those "Im not going to part with them" cases unfortunately drop me a mail if you want details - [email protected] Cheers!
  11. since i suggested, here are some I discovered on my wanderings... apolgies if the quality isn't great, all were off my phone E12 series BMW 528i Another E12, definitely already gone to the great garage in the sky! Alfa Romeo Alfasud Ti, This car has since been rescued by an alfa fan BMW 2500/2800, Predecessor to the 7 Series.... VERY rare here.
  12. sad indeed... by the way, how about we start up our own thread? there are plenty of interesting/unusual cars in Ol' SL that are in similar states in fact we could use this thread itself!
  13. The LJ/KZJ Model 'Cruiser is a great vehicle, Rugged, comfortable and reliable.... a good choice all round but IMO if there is no major price difference, you're better off buying a vehicle that was either a Brand new Import or one that was a recon import... preferably one with the 1KZ-T 3.0 liter turbo... the issue with the "body permit" vehicles is that no one can be quite certain just what sort of horrors a shiny coat of paint and a smart interior are hiding! I doubt you should place much trust in the odometer reading, turning them back is very easy, and these old cruisers can do hundreds of thousands of KM without looking tired if they've been smartened up a bit. In general the Toyota L engine is pretty bombproof, although 400K is a bit of a stretch, if it's been maintained well 250K+ between rebuilds is definitely a possibility. Small note though, I believe the 2L motor has a capacity of 2.4 Liters... Its the 3L thats a 2.8. As for the engine question, The head cracking issue is a new one on me, Milindu has experience with an LJ that has this engine though.. Overall this is an excellent vehicle, but again, better buy would be vehicles that are original.... The general price range is from 4- 4.5 Million, although some people will quote more.
  14. by saying "communicates like a 12 year old", I believe peri was referring to his style of posting, which appears to have stemmed from text messaging, and as dilesh pointed out, is more than a little bit irritating...

  18. Ok Then, Here's something..... D_z banned from replying Rare in SL
  19. I think you'll find mate that a great majority of people are fed to the back teeth with the behaviour of the Arseholes that call themselves the "Representatives of the people".... only issue is the folks who are fed up live in colombo and therefore get to see first hand the excesses and abuses of the Bigwigs... the "People", a.k.a those that actually wield the majority of the vote are rather less well informed and continue to buy the spin that the MR regime have become masters at... As to standing up for what is right, again i suppose there needs to be some form of coherent coordination of this standing up, which is what is lacking at the moment.... If we can get something off the ground, Im sure there will be scores of people willing to lend weight to it.
  20. Daihatsu Rocky?
  21. Try - Euro Auto Parts Centre, 100A Panchikawatta road, Colombo 10 (Right opposite the Tower Hall) Phone no is 060-2133829, Dunno if it works though Got a lot of bug parts from them when doing mine up.... for rare parts, and assuming that you have a way of shipping them down here www.cip1.com - California Import Parts, they carry absolutely EVERYTHING a Volksie would need.
  22. I think that we decided after that scooter that we'd stick with car photos to avoid car pics.... not sure though, best check with dilesh!
