  1. It seems the "Arak gaththu yaka" of the forum cannot tolerate a dig or two!!!!
  2. Not ALL the Cortinas. I just saw one at Dehiwela a 7Sri 2000GXL in MINT condition. WoW! What a treat it was!
  3. Spot On! The Blue Bird Sylphy is basically a re-badged and souped-up Sunny and the TRUE Bluebirds which were always larger than the Sunny and which had there own identity are no more after the U14. However I would reckon that even with this model the Nissan reliability lives on.
  4. Stock size is 135x80x12 but it is designed to take in 155x70x12. The 135s do look very skinny on he original steel rims, but with a set of 4" or 4.5" alloys with the 155s it looks and handles better. Ground clearence is alright, no issues with grounding. I reckon it would be having around 150mm.
  5. Get a 504 GL or Cortina 2000GXL and get it as much as possible into ORIGINAL condition. Those cars are classics and such a car in ORIGINAL condition can easily be sold anyday you want to sell it as there are enough people to snap it up. If you modify a car and punk it up that's the END!!!!
  6. The Jap Alto is an excellent car to run in the city. Build quality is much much better than it's Indian counterpart and the Vivas and returns 14kmpl in th traffic with the A/C. Pulling power is alright for the 660 no issues when overtaking, except that one canot expect 1500cc pulling power from a 660.
  7. Aruna2002 It is the usual style of the "Velvettiturai idiot" going by the comment!
  8. It is absolutely useless discussing the problems in this country which have been created by the elected representatives. Various people in this forum have various views and solutions but that hardly matters as the powers that be are not in the forum. The authorities and politicians are either absolute mutts who do not understand the damned problems or are indifferent to the problems as long they have a cool life with all the luxuries. The voting idiots in the country regardless of what, go in ques and elect these frauds rogues and cheats at each election and those who get elected are more interested in themsleves than the well being of the people. When the idiotic people who have very short memories realise this they keep complaining till the next election and the cycle repeats with another set of good for nothing buffoons getting elected to live the life at the expense of the idiotic people. Anyone living in this country has to live amidst all this mess. Those living in this country have either got to put up and shut up or else get the hell out of the country and live somewhere else. There is no point in complaining as this is THE system in this country which is NOT going to change for a few generations at least. If there is any member or members in this forum who THINK they can bring about change....well..... best of luck!!
  9. No way! I sold my 1996 Maruti way back in 2000 and was not even in the country till the beginning of this year.
  10. I too share your views, and the worst I experienced was with the 2003 Mercedes Benz C200 Kompressor H/B. It had a chunk of an "A" pillar having a very wide blind spot around corners , and the least I experienced it was with the 1996 Maruti 800!!!
  11. Seems more to you!!!!
  12. TRJ150 3.5L petrol returning such figures!!!!!!!!???????
  13. Actually even in 1996 the Indian Maruti 800 was a 1984 Jap design which the Japs had ditched by then. Even in 1996 it was not in the least modern looking or hi tech. As you say it was virtually a "dustbin" or rather in the "dustbin". However the Indians did a bit of tinkering around and came up with a few face lifts and rear re-designs over the years which kind of made it better looking though not an eye turner. But who buys/bought Maruti's for its looks????? Its the economy and re-sale value ( fuel consumption, maintanence and initial cost) that the Maruti 800 attracts and for that IMO there is hardly a car to beat it even today!!! With a little bit of sprucing up with boku alloys, tints, tail gate wing, fogs and pin stripes on the sides there have been instances when the Maruti 800 does turn eyes!
  14. Yeah.....there is a difference, the latter has an "M" at the beginning!
  15. The 1996 "maruti dustbin" which I had returned 22km/l on long runs out of Colombo. Of course I didn't sit around looking whether it looked nice or not!
