  1. Is the Idling stop system bad for engine mounts?

I think the jury is still not out on that yet....

For starters new engines which are lighter and low friction are "theoretically" not supposed to have that heavy crank vibration/gust when it stops and starts like the older engines. Also, I am sure the manufacturers would have accounted for the excess crank vibration that the mounts will have to under go when they designed the mounts. So far these cars seem to be handling okay...and the older ones are not as refined as the newer engines as well. However, the start-stop on standard cars seem to be a lot more smoother and vibration free than the start stops on those little kei cars.

Using the same logic wouldn't one think that Hybrid engines would have the same problem with the engine cutting on and off all the time ? And so far those seem to be holding up quite well too.

@Jor-el @iRage Thanks for the explanation. I have a friend who owns a BMW 520d 2013 and he was so worried about it. So he drives with idle stop switch off all the time.

Well...I seriously doubt the idle stop start process is going to break the engine mounts that much quicker than without it. Has anyone else reported it as a problem ? I seriously doubt all the 520d owners with idle stop have it turned off all the time.
