So....this explains your ramblings on rumored U2 tours....the next phase would be you selling the car to sart saving for the tour because you need the U2 tour more than the car....then back to a car...then back to tour money...and the cycle goes on.

    4. PreseaLover

      PreseaLover

@iRagealready planned to sell the car to save money for the tour. Waiting till I receive the CR back from RMV :D

  2. Restoration almost has come to an end. Need to find a pair of sun visors and a seat belt and im done!

      PreseaLover

      @amsandunno this is a 19-

  3. Actually without even my knowing I've been restoring the Presea I bought.

  4. When driving. there is this kiri kiri rattling noise coming from inside the rear speakers. Without putting the setup on. Anything to do about it? The normal kiri kiri noise that comes in old cars

    3. Magnum

      Magnum

Is it from the front or rear speakers? Sounds like the speaker is loose, which happen easily on those parcel shelf mounted speakers

    4. PreseaLover

      PreseaLover

@Magnumrear speakers.. i opened the dickey and tried to see if the speaker is lose.. but looks to be tight..

  5. The Upholstery handles in my car looks like the previous owners cleaned their Asses with it. Honestly I've neven seen something that dirty. Also the sunvisors.. I really need to find some upholstery handles guys.

    1. PerfMad

      PerfMad

This is why paying some additional amount gives you PEACE of mind :D .. In my case i will always go for clean and well cared interior than exterior. Cz i like the mint condition feeling regardless the age of the car :D

      PreseaLover

@PerfMadextra amount cars looks shittier than that :D this was the most decent good condition one i found :D

  6. Anyone using covers for the dashboard to protect them from cracking? I need to know a good place that customizes dashboard covers

      1. Not effecting the airbag I would say is dependant on the car. Some cars have the airbag being deployed from the top (the top has a hatch) and in some the hatch for the airbag goes from the front to the back.

      2. Hmm...interesting. Never used a cover but my dashboards ahve been factory fresh too...albeit I do use cleaning products on it (which even if the cover is there I suppose would need).

      3. Looks...that is subjective :D

    3. iRage

      iRage

How does it stay on ? Is the back made out of non slip material or is it clipped on ?

    4. Hyaenidae

      Hyaenidae

      @iRage Non-slip material

Yes, cleaning is necessary despite the cover. I just clean it with a damp cloth, let it dry and spray some matt dash finish and wipe

  7. While carrying a Nightbreaker bulb in my hand my hand knocked my hip and the nightbreaker fell into the water.. I dried the nightbreaker in the sun.. Will it work now?

Bits would gradually corrode and give away, night breakers are pretty much overclocked or tuned bulbs that run a bit brighter than standard bulbs, they normally last like 2 years with standard usage

Now they are kind of phased out during to the led influx.

I had a them in my hilux and defender

Usually after wading, the fog light bulbs which were night breakers used to give away in a month or two, those days the bulbs were like 2500lkr which was a decent buck, a pair so I did give attention to cleaning them and drying them out if I saw water ingress in the lights.

They never lasted, while the Headlight bulbs managed atleast 2 years.

This was the early 2000s and the led fest had not begun.

Now I have light bars which get soaked regularly, nothing happens!

    3. tiv

      tiv

Go for LEDs off a good brand, they have the color you like and the lumens to light up the road properly. And batteries last longer as their draw is  drastically reduced. You save on the long run,

Newer models light up the chamber just like the halogen bulb so there are no issues with light scattering

    4. PreseaLover

      PreseaLover

ah ok thanks.. These night breakers I have been using for 5 years. I removed from my previous 2 cars before selling :)

  8. I dont want to replace shocks in my car because I love the bouncy feeling in the car like those cars in Snoop Dog Music videos..

    1. iRage

      iRage

      Okay...fair enough...

But you do realise that this is going to

      - effect the braking efficiency of the car (because of the weight transfer), subsequently brake pads are going to wear out faster because of this as well.

      - effect handling (because of the weight transfer)

      - reduce the life span of your tires...(because the geometry of your suspension is pretty much off).

      - going to transfer more road vibration etc..which can cause interior panels etc to start vibrating

      - subsequently cause damage to suspension components and require much more than just shock replacement

If you like the soft bouncyness....there are other ways to go about it.

    2. PreseaLover

      PreseaLover

@iRagenow I realize what causes the rattling noise from the rear speaker or door or something which is annoying :(

  9. any of you guys have done hydrography to your cars panels?

    1. HaeylM

      HaeylM

U mean this?  It looks nice from far away but honestly doesn't even come close to a car that came with a proper teak interior.  This panel work came with the car when my dad got his so no idea how its done or how much it costs.

@MaleCortanano idea. the speedometer goes up and down and going up instead of just going up straight away

    3. PerfMad

      PerfMad

      probably faulty speedo cable ??

    4. MaleCortana

      MaleCortana

Hmm my Starlet had the same issue where it's almost like shivering itself up. The meter was tampered with.

But check out the speedo cable and see if the rims are the same OEM size they came with

  11. Bought a 93 presea. Need an original single din cassette player or a single din used mp3 player and sun visors that match beige interior. Anyone?

Autolankans all over the world breathed a collective sigh of releif. I think the collective sigh was even recorded by the US geological survey.

  12. Here's a trick if you want a car to be bought for your price regardless of the advertised price: Take an empty bag when going to inspect the car. Lie to the owner saying you have cash right now to make the deal if they sell it for your asking price. When they say no, get up and say bye. Then they definitely say OK to your price. pay and advance and go home and tell them to prepare the documents. Thats what I did.

  13. Finally advanced a 93 Presea R10 model. Got one for my wanted price. Waiting for a week now until the owner gets the documents signed by JP

@matroska..why would you say you will shape eke put it on here ? Black mail the bugger !

  14. Decided.. im not going to buy a car. I aint gonna pay ridiculous prices for 20+ years old rubbish. I'm going to use the hassle free uber option until prices go down. If it doesn't go down, i will never use a car again woot woot!

even if imports are allowed im only looking at cars below 20 laks as I dont believe in paying more than 20laks for a car even if its brand new.

    3. matroska

      matroska

Try a Euro?..they don't have ridiculous prices... YET!

    4. PerfMad

      PerfMad

@matroska the E46 which were around 2.5-3.2 have gone upto 3.7-3.9 :D except for Peugeot and VW older models i guess

  15. If someone is looking for an engine head and block and sump, does that mean the whole engine is gone and need to be overhauled or replaced? asking cuz I was going to buy that car and came across a post where the owner had posted this in a car group few days back.

@iRageah thats a normal thing noh in SL. 99% of the car owners do that so its not a surprise :)

    3. iRage

      iRage

Yes it is...but we Lankans are at such a high level we don't even TRY to hide the fact :) <or just outright stupid that we just don't know how to cover up our tracks :D >

    4. PreseaLover

      PreseaLover

they dont bother to cover the tracks because they know we know :D once i went to a car sale and the car sale dude itself admitted that the odometer has been tampered :D

  16. Went to see a VISTA H number car. Advertised at 23laks and brought down the price to 15. Then took a mechanic to inspect the car to find out its an accident car. A well spent 7.5k for the mech and fuel.

@tivthe chassis and the side of the engine bay was crooked. He showed me and then I saw it myself. I didnt pay attention to that initially when I did the inspection. True, you cant find a car with no accidents but we can find a car that hasn't been condemned before :)

Insane the level of jokers here, the find rare cars, wreck em and dont repair them properly

All the best on your search, but please never settle for anything less than your target for the sake of desperation, even if it takes years the right car will come along

    4. PreseaLover

      PreseaLover

@tivyes, I never settle for less. it took me 1.5 years to find my first presea, and another 6 months for my 2nd, so I can stay a few years for this as well :D

  17. Want a LEVIN or a CARINA ED

    1. iRage

      iRage

You might be able to pull off an AE91 Levin/Trueno...but Carina EDs are really really rare...only 3-4 in the country...one was converted to diesel...and another had been mucked up with lights from a sandard Caina and Corona....

    2. PreseaLover

      PreseaLover

@iRagethere is a carina ED parked everyday at the wattala pizza hut. The owner works there.. 3 years ago I asked him if he is selling and he said No.

    3. iRage

      iRage

Well you can always ask him...are you looking for a mark I, II or III ? I figured Mk Is and IIs were too old....so there are only about 3-4 Mk IIIs...Mk Is...about the same amount and last I heard one was restored and the others were in bad shape....

Sadly this is a common fate for Carina EDs, Corona EXIVs and even Marino/Ceres

  18. f**k.. I miss my presea..

  19. If the speedometer of a car is not working does that mean we have to replace the whole meter board? the rpm meter is working, its the speedometer that is not working.

    2. MaleCortana

      MaleCortana

I think what @PerfMad is getting at is that botched mileage tampering also can lead to certain parts of the speedo not working, saw a Mark 2 with a tampered meter (only had done close to 1000km in like 4 years, past four years of eco test reports missing) with a broken RPM meter, be careful mate.

    3. iRage

      iRage

To answer your question...it depends on the car....in some cars, the different meters are physically seperate components just screwed on to the same faceplate. In some cars (ie. most cars) they are seperate dials connected on to the same circuit board.

How can you fix a broken meter ? Well if it is the first type then you can just find a replacement meter...the second type (of even the first type if you don't want to replace it) there are people who fix up the circuitry and and mechanical components to make it work again (of course depending on what is wrong with it).

But..please do be weary about why the meter does not work....it could be because someone tampered with the meter or it could simply be because a broken cables/sensor/ stuck spring/etc...

      iRage,

I agree to all on your post reply to meter problem.

Still it is better to get a person who is handling meter problems  for an another opinion.

I have had plenty of different opinions to a different subjects, from who are well qualified people.

Only one person gave me the correct answer, many were trying to earn thousands on that problem.

At last persons advice was the best to that problem. Still he is on that advice.

Already four years have passed with no problems whatso ever.

Once in six months he visits  that person and get the problem checked up.

That is also not for a fee, He will carry a present and gift him.

Therefore my advice is to get a different opinions from two or three professionals before coming to end decision.

This forum is there for motorists to get advice and different opinions.

  20. Guys for the no objection letter and sellers ID card copy, can an all island JP sign and put the seal or should it be the JP or gramasevaka related to the area of the owners' address stated in the book?

The JP/GS related to the area of the owners' address stated in the book. Once I faced the problem. Finally met the additional commissioner of DMT, then they called to the current owner and verified.

I'm glad you don't like the looks of Honda's :D

  22. There is a huge gap when it comes to Auto Toyota cars between 17-19laks there are actually no Toyota cars to buy. I mean all the english numbers go above 20 and all the non english numbers go below 17, so there is nothing with an english number to buy for 18 or 19.

    1. Hyaenidae

      Hyaenidae

      Go for a පෝඩ් මොංඩියෝ

  23. So last few days I did some research on the vehicle market and this is what I have gathered so far.

    1. 75% of the cars advertised these days are sold buy baiya's

    2. If you say you are buying for personal use, they will quote you a higher price. But if you tell them you are buying to sell it, they will quote you a lower price. They are keeping a buiya code. Tried and tested, it works

    3. Most of the cars are sold from baiya to another baiya these days and there is no end user for a car. The same car is advertised by 3 different baiya's in the 3 weeks.

    4. The rest of the remaining cars advertised are sold buy non baiya's who has bought the car not less than 2 weeks, which again makes them a baiya indirectly.

    1. PerfMad

      PerfMad

so its all about #baiyas now haha
