Hi friends,

I have seen this thing in recon spare parts joint. It was in the position where the catalytic converter to be. But it is bigger than usual cat. And there are two sensors attached to it. And two fuel/oil lines are attached. It looks fuel line to me. One line may be to the unit and other from it. It has big mount to the body and fixed thoroughly to the silencer from both ends with big spring washers. They said its from new Mazda van -Lion Face :) -with diesel common rail engine. They are clueless what it is.

Guys, whats this gadget and whats it purpose? Experts shed some light.Unfortunately I don't have a photograph.

Thanks in advance.

I think it still is a Cat with some kind of heating mechanism to get it to working temperature as soon as the engine starts.

its in the exhaust system

The EGR can't be that big,i guess .

Maybe its the catalytic converter with sensors and the lines insulated :S

Boot air vent. You can see the opening if you remove the rear buffer (or you may be able to put your hand between the rear buffer (just behind the wheel well) you can fix it back.

Thanks Rumesh for your reply, hmm, I saw it just under wheel well.

How it got removed? by rats?? My car had been locked and covered for about 10 days till yesterday. I hardly use it on weekdays since I am using my office car for work.

Usually that's a favorite entrance for rats. Be very careful because they will find their way to car interior through the boot and back seat (happened to my BIL's car and he was clueless before I showed him the entry port). I don't think you would want a rat to enjoy your car interior. Get this fixed as soon as possible and make sure rats would not get any where near your boot.

I doubt rats took it off because it's fastened to the body by the small plastic bits around it. It probably loosened up gradually after years of travel on bad roads and one day snapped and fell. You should try to get it re-installed as soon as possible because now rats can enter your boot and thereby even inside the car.
