haiyo..... have sri lankans been so brainwashed by these agents to such an extent that they cant comprehend that there could be more than 1 company acting as the dealer/agent for a brand. CarMart too seems to be playing that tune by saying that they are "the distributor" and not "a distributor"...

C*rm*rt has a poor reputation, but I think so does Colo'. Also with a booming Kia biz will they put the effort required by Mazda? I think Mazda could have done much better in their selection of another distributor.

Anyway Mazda the parent company is in poor shape financially and this might have been a desperate move to boost sales in underperforming markets. Let's hope it works well.

I just hope whoever gets it, does justice to the brand and ensures mazda users get the proper support and service they should get.

Most of these agents are just in it for the bucks and doesn't give a darn about after sales services like stocking parts, diagnosing issues properly and fixing them without over charging people.

Seems Colonial Motors has been started offering Mazda. Received an marketing e-mail from Colonial Motors for Mazda CX-5 for permit holders.

This is very sad situation to notice once an establishment during old Mr. CAmarsinge,

Who build up form used car mart at Laurris road Bambalapitiya to an empire during his life time with best of european automobile agencies now left with only Peugeot.

Because total miss management and extravagant spending by top management.

At Ratmala they had a tin caning factory and their automobile workshop.

They've sold the Ratmalana property and now staying in the same land by paying a monthly rental to Ideal. Wish if a capable conglomerate takes the agency to do some justice to the brand. However, the relationship between mother company and them is very strong as they have helped the mother company to survive during difficult times. Therefore, no matter how you complain, mother company still bears with them. I know this, being there, done that.

Carmart had Vespa scooter they were the agents in 1950,s. Seperate repair section at Union Place. There were few thousand of Vespa scooters Carmart sold and had Vespa scooter raly once year a club in colombo as vesps club still functioning.

Harshan, that relationship is definitely going to be tested very soon. PSA group is in deep deep trouble themselves. Their share price has dropped so much that they might be dropped off the CAC 40 in the Paris stock exchange. Like Ca*Ma*t. They've had to sell land and even their head quarters building to stem the flow of red ink. GM (those idiots never learn too) recently purchased 10% of PSA and have had to write it down almost immediately after.

Soon PSA will have to shut down a plant or two. My guess is there will be some consolidation between GM Europe (Opel/Vauxhall) and PSA soon and they might both shut down a few plants and develop cars together. Of course the socialist government does not want to shut any plants but they'll probably run out of options. Europe suffers from chronic over capacity.

Peugeot will need every sale it can get to survive. So maybe that long standing relationship isn't going to last much longer. Let's hope.

Very informative GTAM, yes we all are waiting for a day that relationship is tested and challenged. At least, in terms of appointing another agent for this country. They certainly could’ve captured a huge market with the previous top of the range model as permits were open at that time and also with the current top of the range model, again permits are open and prices are very competitive even in par with Korean competition. I doubt they did what it takes to capture that market properly.

Having said that, it's pretty amazing to learn how a company dropped no of agencies from 16 brands (yes, they were the agents for 16 different automotive brands) in to 1, workshop strength 300+ employees to less than 50 among other major losses in their asset book within a span of 10 to 15 years.

I think its down to our under reliance on main agents for the maintenance of our vehicles. It's only recently that there has been a trend for private owners to take their vehicles to the agents for servicing.

Simply it shows how great brand that is

I think its down to our under reliance on main agents for the maintenance of our vehicles. It's only recently that there has been a trend for private owners to take their vehicles to the agents for servicing.

For this brand, customers (good old days, I meant) always went with the agent. Only recently they have divereted due to multiple failures/mistakes done by the agent. However, the previous management of this company had took all measures to stamp the brand name in this continent and that's what still continues.

I am looking for Mazda 6 via my own permit and got the prices from both C*mart and C*loni.

Price

C*mart quote 5.2 mill and C*loni quote 6.6 mill for cash and 5.55 mill for permit.

Delivery

C*mart told I have to wait for one and half months for the delivery.

C*loni told they will utilise my permit to someone else and can give one from their ex stock.

(I am willing to utilize my permit rather than getting from another, in that case they told I have to wait up to December or January/2015.

Since we are expecting budget for next year I am afraid to wait till Dec/Jan)

Even though, the price is less from C*mart I am thinking twice because of my past experience(after sale service) with them.

Other than that both saying they will give 3 years warranty and etc.

Please advice.

AFAIK, if you've already opened your LC before the tax change/increase, it doesn't apply to you. So you might not need to worry about the budget.

But uncertain delivery time can be a buzzkill. I dont think either of the agents are 5-star agents. So you might as well save ur money by getting the cheaper car and saving the 3 lakhs for future repairs. Anyway parts are gonna be covered under warrenty, and (touch wood) the only thing you would have to goto the agent for is the servicing. And I would anyway take my car to a mazda specialist for repairs than the agent.

Note that I do not own a mazda nor do I have experience with either agent. I'm purely weighing the pros and cons on paper.

Do a Search on carmart and see what people say about them .. in summary, not the most technically savy.
