Members,

I post the web you tube link under of what member Crosswind is referring to "hyperloop".

It's very easy for somebody to come up with an idea or put up an internet video. but it may take decades or centuries for these to become reality. For example, Napolean came up with the idea of an undersea tunnel between england and france back in 1700s. But it became a reality in 1990s.

Well... the word 'train' has now evolved from 'large number of connected compartments that run on rails' to 'compartments that float"... that's what magnetic levitation trains are all about. although there are rails, these trains don't touch them. they levitate (float) on top....

u can call this one a bus if you like... but the principle remains same.

When people want to be innovative they take one idea that is currently being used and then come up with their own version and give it a different name so then they have found something new.

And what ever it is as long as it pulls or propels a lot of carriages or compartments its will be called a train. But according to Sylvi a train is a transport method that uses rails. Wonder why they call those big trucks that haul 4 - 5 compartments / carriages in Aussie road trains eh?

BTW on the Tesla subject I do believe Renault are doing a better job with the Zoe. It is much more affordable and an ideal city car but with a smaller range. (If I remember right they hire the batteries making the car cheaper than an average Focus or Golf. End of the day a marketing gimmick but it does the job)

Crosswind,

I agree to last two posts. For example when Russia Went to space. USA did not take much time to go to space.

During 1700s world technology, was not advanced much like in late 1800s and 1900s.

Like with the same way world scientists with advanced, R&D will consider all facts ideas and develop this system.

About 200 years ago there was plenty of patents in Technology in west other developing countries followed same,

What my post to you"hyperloop" is not a train even Chinese Maglev system stops on a rail.

If not how can magnetic power, eject to be a linear motor. To drive forward or reverse.

For example any squirrel cage single phase motor will have two windings. If you isolate starting winding the motor will not run.

Three phase motors have three windings to rotate when motor is powered. With different poles.

Today, there are a large number of pending projects all over the world, e.g., in Asia and North and South America.
The coming years will show whether or not maglev or at least linear motor-powered transportation systems will establish themselves.

Crosswind,

The hyperloop is not LRT and not train as you wrote. Hyperloop is new form transportation.

My understanding it is capsule tube transportation system. Capsule tube transportation system never been built before.

Sylvi Wijesinghe,

This is not Elon Musk's invention. Daryl Oster of Et3.Com Inc. has the US Patent 5950543 since year 1997 for the technology. As Crosswind has pointed out it will be a long time before it comes to practical use and when it does Daryl Oster will be collecting his royalties not Elon Musk.

The author is being very enthusiastic, but just to keep it in perspective, Glass runs Android, and other cars have Android Apps too, like the Leaf. But having a proper Glassware app is still funky.

Didn't their stocks drop after this incident?

No as apparently the fire was not caused by any structural or design issues; the analysis was that a ICE car would have faced a similar fate as the incident was caused by roadside debris piercing the underside of the car. Tesla ended up using the incident to talk-up how safe their cars were over a ICE car that would have had fuel lines through the area that caught fire making it even more dangerous for the occupants etc.

Share price dropped but from a very high level. Anyway I am amazed that Tesla is rocking the charts against all odds.

It has just ousted the Golf's numero uno roost in Norway! - http://europe.autonews.com/article/20131008/ANE/131009874/teslas-model-s-overtakes-vw-golf-as-norways-best-selling-car

Whatever next?

Norway has a 100% stamp tax on traditional cars, which makes Tesla far more affordable. So this spike could be more to do with monetary reasons than anything else. Still its been an amazing performance against all odds by Tesla. Certainly the future of motoring, imo

Members,

Normally at the start very few industries will make a profit. Has to do, Research and development, will do the need full.

There are predictions that one day world oil reserves will come to a end, then EV will be a will be produced in large scale to do the transport.

Electricity will be produced with Nuclear power reactors with steam turbines will be used to power generators.

Will Tesla Unveil Its Gen III Electric Car In 2015
Tesla chief designer Franz von Holzhausen indicates reveal of the 'affordable' electric car could come at Detroit Auto Show in 2015, a year from now.

Published: 16-Dec-2013

The details are scant, but Tesla CEO Elon Musk has not kept everything a secret. And now Tesla's automobile designer, Franz von Holzhausen has revealed some new elements to Tesla's plan for its more affordable all-electric vehicle. Most importantly, he suggests that it won't be too long before the world gets to see Tesla's highly anticipated vehicle built for the masses.

The typical time frame Tesla mentions when it talks about the launch of its affordable all-electric car, often referred to as its "gen-III" vehicle, ranges between 2016 and 2017. In a Sept. 14 corporate presentation, Tesla put it in virtual ink in one of the company slides: the third-generation platform, producing in higher volume at a lower price, was portrayed on the company's "Unit Growth Roadmap" timetable under the 2016 to 2017 time frame.

Franz comments seem to confirm this time frame. In his interview with AutoBild, Franz said that Tesla will "probably" remove the wraps from its more affordable car at the 2015 Detroit auto show. The early unveil shouldn't be a surprise. Even though Tesla didn't start shipping the Model S until the first quarter of 2013, it showed off an early Model S body in 2011 and a production-ready version in early 2012. That said, Franz comment suggests that Tesla is on schedule with its timetable for the vehicle.

Sylvi,

Just as your article says, the details are scant. Scant means the so-called affordable EV could be just a figment of Elon Musk and that other guy's imagination. Or it could be a c******o Reva type piece of shite.

Whenever I read about tesla's so-called 'innovative ideas', this is what comes to my mind
