Which Autogear Mechanic You Recommend...?

chan5

Question

feedback needed friends..

Car is toyota CARINA CT - 190.

With 2C engine and 4speed automatic gearbox.

Has a delay on engaging to D On cold starts, (will say about 15 seconds). And it engage with a knock then.car jumps forward when accelerate.

In running temperature also it takes about 3 seconds to engage.

Has Replaced the recommended oil + cleaned the filter and helped for few weeks. Issue reappeared .

So decided to go for gearbox repair..

By reading the forum got

3 mechanics.discussed with them and they've different ups and downs.

Need help for select the suitable one.

1 - R*sanjana motors pannipitiya-quoted 30 k with toyota oil + labour + repair kit.needed 2 days.

2 - Ni*wala motors ambuldeniya -28k with toyota oil+repair kit+labour.he has stocked parts and need only 24 hours to repair.he sounds competent.

3- IND*KA - Kolonawa - needed 5-4 days since he need to replace every piece and bit which has ware , uses some caltex oil(? ).In his language it's full overhaul rather than just repair the issue. 28k .

Plus all give 3-6 months warranty on repair.

Which place is best to go with your experiences.?

Side note - replacing a used box is excluded from the equation :)

I’m having a similar problem, during cold start’s when you engage gear to D it does not move, till the oil heats up which take a few minuets.

Gear boxes are on the high side for my Mazda & even repairing takes about 30K. So now trying hard to decide,

  1. Do I repair it and be prepared for god knows what other issues I have inside my box
  2. Get a recon and pray (a lot) that the one I chose is Ok.

I’ve met Nilwala guy and a few other like Mazna & another chap. Just can’t decide what to do …. Any advice you guys can give please ???

simply,

avoid MA*zna because their cost is high , there were lot OF complains here in forum.

If replacement goes closer to 100k,just give it a shot by repairing it.

By that way you're sure what's in.

Go for gearbox specialist, rather than mazda specialist.

Chan5,

I have this same exact problem. Could you please send me the Number of this Garage, or how to reach them?

If my calculations are correct, if you put this number into google maps, it will give you the approximate position

6.87171, 79.91361

The road is correct, you might need to drive up and down a bit, but its somewhere there. Shouldn't miss it.

if you are on kotte - thalawatugoda road.

Turn onto Madiwela road (which is on right side when you travel from kotte junction.)

the place is about 1km on the way,

on your left, name is "NILW*LA MOTORS".

Hey,

I got this repair done too, from the same place. Neat place and work, however too soon to talk about the results. They gave a 6 months warranty too, so that 's a big heal. So far so good and the Gear Box trouble is no more there. Car is back in its usual Hyper mood vs Laid back mood it was for the past many months!

Thanks Chan5!

I had an issue with my CVT box (honda ek3) there was an acceleration issue in the cold start.until the RPM reaches about 2000 the car doesnt move properly (as in it moves but not picking up as it should).then after the RPM reaches 2000 it starts going normal.this happens only in the cold start.after that its totally okay.i showed the car to indika.did the repair.but it is not fixed.indika is a good mech but still this delay in the cold start in my case couldnt be fixed by him.do you guys think Nilwala will do it??

think , indika is also a guy who knows what he's doing.

"Komisiripala" has got some decent repairs from him and have good positives.before you jumping to another mechanic,

why don't you just meet him again and claim your warranty,in case if it has not exceeded 6 months, or else you would still negotiate.

Let us know what happens anyway . . .

I dont know what are the rules here in this forum. Are we allowed to post contact details? Anyway if you google it, you will find it from many sources. I did the same once Chan5 gave me the directions (given somewhere above, on this post). Good Luck! It is always the best to have a 2nd option.

Finally decided to get the bloody GB fixed as the issue was getting worse, with the help of you guys on AL and specially Chan5 , I too chose to with Nilwala Motors – 1. Since it was closer & 2 he seemed to know the issue and was straight up with the matters of solving it.

Issues : On a cold start, when you put it in to D position, the car did not move, when I shifted to Manual mode (Tiptronic) it took less time to move forward, after the oil heated, shifted well.

I gave her on a weekday (Thursday) evening and took her back on Saturday morning and she worked fine. No issue so far and as said by Chan5, I got a 6 months warranty, although it too early to celebrate, I shall keep all posted on the developments. So far all looks well .

@ mazdaspeed,

What had gone wrong inside of the autobox?

Is it just those rubber o rings or something else?

In my 1998 CE110 it is just o rings but he replace all the plates and few valves as well.

I am pretty sure that his warranty is a real warranty, talking on experiences,

I had a autobox issue after 2 months from the repairing which is actually totally not related to the repair. It was the modulator of the box(It is attached outside of the gearbox) and car was not going beyond the 2nd gear however much I accelerate the engine!

But he replaced it totally free.

Following is the damaged modulator due to a broken bolt inside the modulator

Hi nano31

He replaced a few things, O rings, Solenoid, the plates and the vehicle speed sensor as well with some other parts. Since I asked around from a few other fellows who have repairs on the same box, I got the same list of parts that would change , so I was expecting the same reply form Nilwala guy ( Chandana).

I’m hoping it works, he said I should not have an issue even after 6 months but I guess I have to wait & see. But all in all happy with his work.

It’s been almost 1 ½ weeks after the repair and I’ve already had to give in to a 2nd chance …..

Last Sunday Friday I started to get the old symptoms again,; car did not pull forward after engaging in D position for about 4/6 seconds, gradually during the weeks it took even longer.

So since I had a warenty, Nilwala guys asked me to bring it in, and too it on last Thursday, and took it back on Saturday. He said the recon hub he put had some issues and he had replaced it with another.

So It was not fixed on the first attempt, hoping this new “Hub” will last, if it does for how long is also a question. Shall keep forum posted.

Note : RS auto engineering in Seeduwa is also an option for those who leave near the areas, Since the distance was an issue for me, I had to drop it. Workshop is very methodical and he said he need to diagnose the problem and then only give a price. He did not quote a blind figure off his head; for me that’s a good start .
