Project Capri

Hoonigan

Question

Hi all,

So I've been trying to find a Capri for some time now but haven't really been very successful.

I'm trying to do a resto-mod and I have a few very specific things I want to do to it. So an abandoned car that needs body work, paint, interior work etc fits the bill perfectly. I don't really care if it's running or not either.

The few I found were recently restored or 'modified' and asking prices were a bit on the high side and I would anyway have to roll back some of the work already done on them and this would make me overshoot my budget by a mile.

Basically, I'm looking for a Ford Capri (preferably MK1) in shabby condition for around 3-500K (not set in stone, maybe a bit more depending on the condition) If any of you gents know about one close to what I've mentioned above, please be kind enough to drop me a PM. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Nice tail lamp. Don't use rubbing compound though, look for polishes made for plastics. I read somewhere that rubbing compound is good for painted surfaces only.

Also if you (like me) hate to see faded amber lenses, look for two-part lacquer paint. Be careful when you're applying it though; too much thinner and it'll melt that gorgeous lens! I didn't spray my lenses with the two-part stuff though, I couldn't find any locally and I was impatient to see it on the car! I used the usual TOA lacquer clear on mine (two coats each).

@Watchman yes machan, tax is more than 40% but like Komi mentioned, they give a detailed quote including everything. And the 15 $ shipping fee is a tough one to beat.

@Jaliya. Thanks mate. Will look at a specialised product to Clean it up.

Sadly however, I just lost the bid for the other light in Germany. I set a pretty high price but got sniped during the last few seconds. Auction closed more than 1.5 times what I paid for this one :(

Have to keep looking.

Thanks machan...but they don't seem to stock the size I want. Besides, damn they are expensive :o

Anyways, placed the order via Kapruka today and reads as follows

BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2 Radial Tire - 205/45R16 87Z SL - QTY 2

BFGoodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2 Radial Tire - 255/50R16 99Z - QTY 2

The price gained 12K over the last couple of days for some reason but still remains resonably low I guess. Promised a delivery date 8 weeks away.

The steering wheel showed up yesterday.

The metal is intact with no pitting or marks, the wrap is excellent, feels solid and grips nicely.

Need to find a horn button to clean it up though.

Happy with the purchase so far :)

Hey Komi, you're back from the jungle I see :D

Thanks guys, a little bit of looking around tells me that Grant built these for Mopar Challengers..saw one taken off from '71 Challenger in much worse shape than this asking for a bit more money. So this was a pretty good deal. Trying to find the horn for it but many has Mopar emblems on them.

Thanks MD and Komi! I found one listed with a polished chrome horn kit made by Grant themselves. Just dropped a message to the seller to check the compatibility.

BTW, should I look for an adapter to mount it or look for something locally made? The wheel has a three hole pattern.

Tail lights arrived today :)

Fortunately or unfortunately this listing was for a complete set. so now I have 3. One too many but wouldn't hurt to have a spare. Got carried away and spent way too much on it but they look way better than the ones already on the car.

Will buy a cleaning kit off ebay as Jaliya suggested..but near completion. Next up; BMW smiley headlights.

Machan get a horn button that fits and We can try and print a logo to fit if all else fails (like the Sierra cosworth one) I've seen custom button logos made at home on ratsun so it can't be rocket science

Hoonigan, those parts look grate machan.

If you need some logos and plastic engravings/cuttings by laser, best place is Saveen Plastic, Mihindu Mawatha, Pettah.

They have a superb laser machine and I have got done good jobs. Contact Mr.Anusha - 077-7602183

I am surprised that these lenses are not re-manufactured considering how popular the Capri is world wide.

Yes Komi that is also an option. They did turn out amazing.

@GTAm that's true. I believe these were made by Hella for the RS3100 and the mk1 facelift starting 1972. Of course to be replaced by the MK2 after a short while. I guess they continued production until recently as a German site (referred by Similarnames) has them listed brand new in their catalogue. However I was told they are no longer available and no alternative suppliers are available.
