Question

Hope everyone is having a great year,

My 2007 Toyota Vitz has developed some rust in the wheel arches. I regularly clean this area but dirt getting collected is unavoidable.

After having a look around I learnt that this is a common failure point in all the Yaris models due to dirt getting collected in the area, then the rust eats up from the inside.

In my case what could be done? Will wire brushing and painting suffice (I'm not sure what the hard undercoating paint is called).

The Vitz does not come with a liner to cover this part and also one of the rubber tape covers is missing in one of the arches which I plan to replace.

Please advise RusT on how to fix the rust in the car:P

I would say wire brush it...primer it and give it a coat of paint.

Since you are not going all out and tinkering it don't spray those anti-corrosive paint gunky thing. If there is rust under the paint (or moisture trapped under the layer) the metal starts rusting under the layer of anti-corrosive paint and you will not know about it until its too late. This is exactly waht was happening with the Trueno when I furst bought it.
