Hello lads. I was wondering how people fix their kerbed, scratched or chipped alloys in sl. my wheels are somewhat damaged as well. and all this time i was ignoring it cos i didnt know there was much to do about them. but then i came across some alloy wheel repair kits. i can do all 4 wheels with one pack and thats £12. and its diy as well. is this worth it or should follow the other routine that is getting your painter to primer them and give them nice shiny coat of paint? my only worry is that how we are going to source the right paint for the wheel. cos i've had way too many bad experiences with badly matched paint.

also what sort of paint do you guys use when painting you brake callipers. i did mine with normal automotive paint once. it came out ok but now i want them in red with an even shinier finish. some people recommended hammerite and others said i should go with high temp paint (which is damn expensive). any ideas on this subject?

Many thanks.

I got my set of wheels brushed, and had to grind off the damaged edges. Painted them with 2k metalic paint. so far so good. You could also powder coat them..

TOA spray can works just fine on Callipers! :)

and no they don't peel off as long as you leave them alone without scrubbing em

any half way decent garage can put a coat of paint on the rims for you - 3K ought to get the job done - cheaper for a matt finish

Amila & U n H on Malay Street can repair damaged alloy wheels - can't recall how much per rim , but it wasn't very expensive - only draw back is that the wheels might need to be painted to get the colour right again after the repair work is done

are you just repairing the wheels or changing the colour?

planing to get a set of wheels and get em painted white, matte finish :D

hey dude try the new alloy place close to thorana junc, maybe they do these stuff...

the chrome/electro plating places usually buff-out alloys as well...i buffed four of my wheels a year back and they charged me 450/- per piece, but mine had lots of spokes so they charged me extra

as for painting i suggest you hand it to your local garages paint guy along with the desired paint colour...it would save you a lot of money

i got mine buffed at my chrome plating shop...i'll PM you the contacts but any such shop should be able to handle it

judging by the picture your wheels should be good enough after a good buff mate...somehow the re-painted wheels doesnt look "natural" at all and one can instantly tell that they were locally painted...

Hey guys. My alloys are kinda discoloured and have some unwashable marks on them. Dunno whether they have to be repsrayed or rebuffed or whatever... just need them looking nice and shiny again. :) I'd also like to repaint my brake calipers. Any good spots you guys can recommend?

I also had the same problem with the alloys and I recently went to JJ Lanka to get it buffed. They said its gonna take few hours time so I postponed it for a weekend. No idea of the normal cost because I am getting it done for free since its still within warranty. About brake caliper painting, well any auto paint bas/shop will do it. I did with a TOA can, no big deal.

JJ Lanka is in Mt. Lavinia right? And don't you have to remove the caliper cover to paint it?

yup its in mt lav machan. u dont have to remove the calipers unless u want a superbly fine, flawless paint job. u can turn the tire a bit so the caliper body is more visible and then its easier to sand paper it as well. i painted it in matte black so didnt much cared about masking the surrounding neatly, but if you are spraying any bright colours you will have to take time and carefully do that.

Yeah, I'm planning maybe silver or red on the calipers... cause they look completely dull and lifeless now. So a comprehensive job is preferred. :)

By the way what is the price of a good set of alloy wheels, even used ones are ok with about 5 thick spokes.I need one for a fairly old lancer wagon
