Motor Bike Restrictions

Skyline R33

Recommended Posts

There is a CBR RR1 blue in Kirulapona and has been sitting there for quite a long tym. The bikes has plates. Heres a clue

I saw wen i went to repair my A/C..

People bring down HC bikes from harbours and have to pay a fee to the R*V and register it under 250CC. surprisingly there is a rate for certain bikes..

Its easy why do we see HC CBR with the newest number plates. Srilanka usually bring down reconditoned bikes and they register it from R*V as reconditioned and under 250CC eventhough its 450- 600 CC.

I've seen many bikes which are 600CC engines.

Some people run wit different number plates. they bring it down from abroad take another bike's number plate and use it as long as they wish .. when cops catch them they just show the license, insurance and the revenue license and get away. they have NOT mentioned the make of the bike. :angry-smiley-048:

There was a rumor i Kandy that police has captured HC bike and investigating on it. I had a chance to go there and see what it is.. it was R1. Any body knows the owner.. police said court case is filed.

Yup, I know the owner and heard about the incident. But dunno much about what happened.

The bike is at RCT/RTF (orugodawatthe)the last time i herd ,the bike could have been easily released if the owner didnt try to be a big shot with the kandy police . And there were Much more bikes The custom has 2 lots HONDA CBR 600RR Only the tank and engine and chasis was there i guess and you can get it from the auction With MOD approval, the auction also has many bikes in disassembled form which can also be taken through bidding but the chassis numbers have to be grounded prior to release.

Yes the Ministry of defence do give off permits for HC bikes if you have a good contact you can get it done easily.Illegal imports are pretty hard because the customs knows what people are upto specially for vehicle cut portions thts why u see g numbered Subaru sti 9s and most cars around NW province

bit OT, i've seen a starlet Glanza in kandy area going around with a number that start with G9-XXXXX. Its running more than 2 years now.. What is this number? So many cops hanging around in the area, they also never bothered about it.

Thanks for all the replies. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Is there any particular reason for the 350cc rule or is it sumthing dumb like the tint law? the reason I was told is the Cop bikes are only 350cc and hence if some one has a bigger one and is trying to runaway from them, they cannot chase them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> This might be incorrect as some one told this to me. I personally think restrictions on engine size is useless since one can't go that fast within City limits with all this traffic.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The model of the earlier cop bike used to be Suzuki GS500.Hence the 350cc law came into action....but the GS500 was a shame to the engine capacity becoz a 125cc can out run them easily.... However the Sri lankan cops have now been given Indian 100CC bikes. so lets just hope they dont change da law & make da civilians ride 50cc bikes. with the way our cops ride bikes i dont think they can chase & catch a guy on a Mountain bike

Well said.... 1+

So I guess it legal, provided that parts imported and documented properly. And this number will carry forward through out its life time, is it?

I'm afraid not, as per the new amendment of Motor traffic act, any locally assembled vehicle is illegal to run. However, this is a clash or opinion difference between few local bodies. Department of Motor Vehicles, Sri Lanka Customs, BOI namely. This venture is a BOI approved business and from the beginning customs were against to it. They say it's caused by monies spent by popular vehicle imports, but it's just a rumour.

Whatever said and done, Customs went ahead and filed cases against these vehicles and the venture and owners (who bought vehicles from the venture) filed cases against customs and DMV(RMV) asking the court to demand the commissioner to register them. So when a court order given for a batch, DMV registers them all with locally assembled tag line in the book. There was a starlet bought by a known lady and she ran almost two years with G-088X plates and about a month back I've seen the car with K plates.

Does that include Micros as well?

Just a question on dat one. I saw one of those locally assembled cars recently (with KG- number) and it was a Toyota Carina Ti My Road but the registration book says "Emperor" for the make and "Super Saloon" for the model. I believe the chassis number is also modified by the local company. With this scenario, I guess it wouldn't be too easy to sell and would it be possible to get lease or something, if required?

no it doesn't apply for Micro, locally assembled means cut 'n buds, not properly assembled ones and the term in act is re-assembled if I'm not mistaken.

lease I doubt but selling in this market? piece of cake I guess, coz people would buy anything with a late english number by paying a higher price.

Well i dont know About G9 but my buddy has a Landcruiser sahara with G plates and its a genuine import He works with MOD ,so he can run the vehicle with those plates .Other than that the assembling was done in minuwangoda so ive heard and there are many vehicles running with G plates which arent locally assembled . I guess there are cars assembled illegally too with chasis welded back to one unit ,not sure though,I saw the customs auctioning a left hand Drive Hummer h2 wonder who got that seized :S
