  1. Sell the interplay & buy a.... B11 (No ECU worries like a P11... and lighter on the pocket)...!!!!
  2. Agreed! To my knowledge though, there are at least two agents who doesn't allow people to go near their vehicles during service.. and these are hot selling brands... Based on a personal experience with one of them, I found the guys didn't do such a good job with the interiors... for the simple reason that the car is brand new, I didn't try going to another service station & have some joker muck up the load of sensors washing the engine area.... at least, I'm assuming that with the agent, you can put a shout & workout something for damages...
  3. One reason is attibutable to 'hedging' the prices and hence loosing out on the benefit global price reduction, I believe....
  4. By the way, Upahara will eat into SLT revenue, not just Dialog market share, isn't it? Or is Mobitel trying to eat into that before big brother SLT sorts out who their Boss should be...
  5. Well I do hope you guys are right... and if it does happen let's just hope that these guys take over a couple of other 'decent' Brands which are in terrible need of a caring agent... and xXx, as for the fear Mid eastern acquisitions, I can't comment, but the general feeling among people I happen to know, who've worked under Indian managements in SL, are not very positive.... perhaps there's no smoke without fire?
  6. Yeah... can't blame people for accepting a lucrative trade-off.... have a feeling that on the long run, the Sevice level will not be the same though....
  7. "A*W announced today that it was de-listing the company from the Colombo Stock Exchange. The company informed the SEC that it was unanimously resolved at a Board meeting to proceed to de-list the securities of the company from the official list of the CSE. http://www.dailymirror.lk/DM_BLOG/Sections...TID=31172" Wonder whether we'll end up loosing one of the best "Agents" in SL.....
  8. Ah! I have company!!....
  9. By the way, can somebody in the forum comment on the N16 facelift (referred as N17 by some) with regard to these well discussed suspension & fuel efficuency Issues? Agree with Milindu on the "looks" of the particular car.... although it's about a million rupees more in price...
  10. This particular "sub thread" clearly explains about the Corollas, isn't it?
  11. Thanks for the feedback guys.. Think I can now take the risk & go in boldly without the certificate to the divisional Sec afterall..
  12. Any idea whether we need to produce this certificate for renewal of licence as of now? I haven't actually met a person who had to do so..
  13. Guys, any idea about the current situation on Emission tests & revenue licence? anybody who was asked to actually produce this certificate by Revenue licence people? I'll have to renew my one in a few days, and on two minds whether it's worth all the hassle to go for the test....especially when the car is only about an year old!! any experiences?
  14. Ah yes! thanks Don... i forgot that part... the reason is said to be because it share the SB 14 engine... CD20, I think... but then again, it also mean that most of the spares in B13 & 14 diesel versions can be shared... correct me if I'm wrong, though.. But the pulling power is quite acceptable by the people I know.... but then again, these folks are a few decades before our time.. Haven't driven the petrol versions, so can't comment.... but I'd still go for the bluebird, cos on a age & price comparison, I'll be able to get a newer car for the same price of a 110...(Again this may be a subjective comment..) further, if you have kids, the spacious interior and large boot can be quite handy.. ask any young mother and see... ( and Don must be right about permit versions of U14 being full option & CE110 semi option..) By the way L board, there are quite a few manual Bluebirds & CE110s around... good luck with the search.... you probably won't regret either of the choices..
  15. I would go for the U 14 Eprise manual gear, provided I can find a carefully used one from a family: U 14 Eprise was a popular choice during the previous permit round in 99-2000 years... I personally know a few professionals who've maintained these well and are selling these days due to the new permits that came in...(Don't ask me who, I'm not a broker ) Avg figures for the diesel as per my knowledge is 10 in city, 14 outstation.... and it's more comfy & spacious than 110.... engine is 2.0 L, but the power:weight ratio is supposed to be ok.... Life of engine would depend on how it was used, not by the make of vehicle... and i'm sure the kind of people mentioned above would have used the car carefully for around 100-150k.... and it'll be several years before a major overhaul.... the users I mentioned have never grumbled on spares or the agent... My argument is, if the vehicle's maintained well and happens to be a popular make in SL, you can always find a buyer without a lot of sweat.... this is my 2 cents, of course... I've driven both cars and liked the comfort of the U 14 better.... and I would consider a manual... it gives me the real feel of driving... Hope U R not confused now, mate....
  16. I can highly recommend a well maintained FB14 or an SB14 (The diesel one). from personal experiance, the manual gear FB 14 does 10/l in colombo and 14 outstation... provided unnecessary accelaration is avoided... ex saloon or super saloon is basically about options such as power mirrors, shutters, etc.. if you look around, there'll be the 98/99 model ones with original alloys, crystal headlights, fog lamps, etc... giving a much better outlook... but why don't you consider a vehicle with a newer manufacturing year? I know not many like Kia, but that fact also helps you to bargain.... a friend of mine got a brand new car used for an year, done less than 10K for something like 15/=.... that was an year ago and he's quite happy with it...
  17. Well... if there's oil around, there might be quite a few countries who'll be interested in 'offering' their marines, don't you think....
  18. Does Mitsubishi have one of these Batta vans? I'm not sure whether it was Mitsubishi or Suzuki, but one of my friends had one such van an year or so back... we did a trip down south in average traffic.... the ride was terrible & I kept thinking we'll be run over by some crazy Private Bus.... but I also remember that bloody thing did some insane figure like 23k/l in the round trip.... Maybe those batta vans are a good option, for someone who travels 150km per day and fuel is the only concern.... but how long that van will take the strain is anybody's guess.....
  19. Oops... no mate.... maybe we can combine the two...and it can be inside your thread....
  20. Exactly... what'll be interesting here is to see any general trend in thinking of our vehicle lovers.... what majority would consider as a "valuable" car... is it the uniqueness, a specific make/brand, or your own car regardless of it's condition....
  21. Guys, Stingray's Q about the most expensive car prompted me to think, what's the most valuable car in SL..... "Expensive" relates to the price tag & "Value" of a car will depend on so many factors percieved as worthy by users... (ex: A rolls for prestige, Maruti for fuel economy, etc...) So, as Sri Lankans, what do you think is the most valuable car, and why?
  22. True.. from what I've heard, the wealth within EPF was simply getting wasted due to lack of competent fund management / investment personnel.... infact, this should have been one place where some of the best brains in Finace & Economics should have ended up in...
  23. Guys, Saw this article in today's DM.... Apparently, they are trying to "celebrate" EPF's 50 years service in keeping with the present trends.... Increase in EPF soon The Government is considering an increase in the Employment Provident Fund (EPF) contribution of both the employer and the employee in the very near future. Accordingly the employers’ contribution is to be increased to 13 percent and the employees contribution to 10 percent. “Discussions are underway to increase the EPF contribution from the current 12 percent contribution from the employer and 8 percent from the employee,” Labour Minister Athauda Senviratne told the Daily Mirror yesterday. He said that the ministry is planning to introduce a new policy to the EPF for the next fifty years as the EPF completes 50 years this year. “We would include the new contribution systems of the EPF under the new policy,” he said. The minister also said that under the new policy, financial support would be given for accidents, building houses and for higher education.
