Try convincing that to a woman....
-
It is a collaboration between Wide Angle and Torana.. (not DTV) but based on the existing contracts and agreements don't think it will be available on other networks any time soon.. Devinda: Yes, they are the people who make local music videos, and must say quite a talented lot..
-
Yes, and add to that they have not gone for a robust and reliable infrastructure due to "politics" makes me even more doubtful.. And not to mention a software based conditional access system which is prone to hacks...
-
Yeah, machan this happens sometimes. IF signals from GSM base stations are known to create disturbances sometimes. Perhaps your area is populated with base stations.. PS: By any chance are you living around Wattala...?

This sounds scary to be done on a car... Anyway time to hunt around the super markets it seems.. Will keep you posted. Still feel like getting the pump as well since it does not cost all that much. For 1000 bucks it's a great deal Coupled with the sealant this would be enough to get through most of the tire puncture trouble, me thinks..
-
Oh cool.. Should check out the Dehiwala super center next week.. Do you mean the sealant re-inflates the tire as well...? Then no need of a pump, right? And if so how does it know which pressure the tire should have... I was thinking of getting the pump as well since I would need to re-inflate the tire back to running pressure after filling up the puncture with the sealant...
-
Just heard that from one of my friends too.. Rs. 1100/= about 5 years back he said.. Must be around 2000 bucks by now.. Add the sealant can and it will not be more than Rs. 3000... Anyway it is still worth it, rather than finding a flat tire in the middle of no where in the wee hours of the night..
-
Are you referring to something like this...? This one is $19.99
-
The ones I put up claims to be able to do that...(within 15 minutes) http://www.amazon.com/Slime-Smart-15-Minut...f=pd_sim_auto_8
-
And how did it perform when pumping to the car tires...?
-
Thanks machan... This does not look all that lightweight and it is amazing that it sneaked through the customs.. Did you use e-bay?
-
Hmmmm.. true machan.. If your dad used it for 2-3 years then for 1000 bucks it is really worth it.
-
For under 1000 bucks... that's cheap.. from where did you buy it and how long ago was this...? Shan: Which brand did you purchase and what was the cost (including shipping) since YALA says it can be bought under Rs.1000 in SL think that would be a better option..
-
Which one did you use Dev? Was it Valvoline and from where did you buy it... I looked in the Nawinna super store but couldn't find em.. How does it really work... would you have to insert it to the tire beforehand or is it basically a repair work once you detect a flat tire.. My understanding was that it will automatically seal the puncture if you have inserted the liquid beforehand.. If so then the next question would be for how long do they remain effective and what is the success rate. No point in ruining my rim if the sealant does not do its job in an emergency...

I've been wondering to buy a portable 12V tire inflator pump and tire sealant to fix punctures on the go.. Found some on the internet such as these.. They are available for around $25 but need to add shipping and also don't know what our custom people will think about it. Are similar products available in SL and if someone has used them how effective are they.. Heard that some sealant cans can be found in "some" super markets here in SL.. Never seen anywhere though..

The truth is out there..

No idea mate...

Don't be too sure on the non-interruptive services machan.. In the end it is all down to bandwidth and you would know how difficult it is to provide a guaranteed bandwidth.. Also the "video on demand" currently has only a few nature documentaries and a handful of songs.. Verify with a user on this.. Also "trick play" is only available for local channels... So I would not jump into IPTV just yet.. Lets see how their system is going to cope first.. Also would be good to analyze why IPTV has not really taken off anywhere in the world yet..

Well speaking about the customer care, it is the same team that handles both GSM and DTV issues therefore blaming it on DTV customer care while praising the GSM customer care is not fare. There are some simple reasons why DTV customer issues can not be sorted out as easily as GSM issues. 1) All GSM issues could be solved without much hassle while some DTV issues can not be solved easily (such as rain fade) 2) DTV owns and maintains the customer premises equipment while GSM does not. Therefore the issues that need resolving and the number of complaints are higher. (You would not call Dialog customer care if your phone battery dies, would you....?) 3) Customer subscription management and entitlement control is a whole different kettle of fish than the GSM systems and a place where security is of prime importance thus evoking more issues. 4) Unlike in GSM where you would tolerate and retry if the system is not available, a 5 second blank screen is enough to put the customers off. In fact this is the toughest challenge faced by IPTV as well and SLT system is yet to be tested with a sufficient load.. Anyway, take my word DTV is doing its level best to deliver the best quality to the customers but some of the inherent obstacles are still standing in the way and hope people will be patient since DTV is still in its evolving stage..

You are absolutely correct Charitha.. Rain Fade is a common phenomena experienced by all Ku band operators.. A small correction though, VSAT also operates on the Ku band. (Only the first VSAT were of the C band). Ku band is of higher frequency than C band thus more fading due to the simple logic of higher the frequency, higher the attenuation. The shortcoming of C band is that being of lower frequency one would need larger dishes for reception. Currently DTV uses C band to receive foreign channels before up linking. Therefore quality is maintained in that link critical link. But using C band to transmit for the end customers is not feasible due to the higher costs which needs to be paid for C band transponders as well as due to the expensive customer equipment. The new box has a better sensitivity than the older boxes thus reducing rain fade further, also up link power control is done to maximize the power level delivered to the end users during rainy times. So as you can see DTV is doing all it can to minimize rain fade effects and for sure it has been achieved to some extent in recent times.
