Flood Victims (automotive) - Learning Points
gunat replied to harshansenadhir's topic in General Automotive
Note how it is a Junior fella standing in this melee- although there is another one behind him. I can't figure out how he's still standing in that torrent- waves that high would certainly take a man off his feet. Fantastic pic GihanFX- where was this taken? What happened the following seconds? -
Judging by your thread topic, its for a the BMW E30- might help if you could indicate which engine?? Different engines have different belts- i know the 1.8, 2.0, 2.8 had chains, which only need adjustment. Not sure about the 1.6 engine though.

The most blatant violators of the road laws are the buses and trishaw arses. If the cops actually stopped deliberately profiling car owners, they'd definitely be making a fair amount of the unofficial 'quota' they have been assigned each month. In general though, i'm seeing that we're headed towards more policing on our roads- the fines (whether assigned in court or by ticket) is much needed income. I've also heard that some cars with loud exhausts/body work have been impounded of late. Pucker up- i think there's going to be more of this!

Just bid/won on a car item on ebay- have to see if the vendor is actually legit (although there's 400+ 100% positive reviews on the vendor, he's yet to respond to my messages on shipping updates etc). I'm also hoping that the customs will be take kindly to the fact that i'm restoring an old croc...and give me a reduced duty charge.

Agreed Pils- its up to Schumacher to decide what is best. Pity though, that he's decided benjamins over leaving a legacy...his success was based at a time when more driver aids, traction control were raging through the cars- and he excelled in that period. The car he has to contend with now is quite different...couple that to competing drivers who are a lot younger and more conditioned, he's got his work cut out for him, and it certainly is showing. Overall though, it looks like there's going to be quite a bunch in contention for the championship...and that, definitely makes a difference to following the sport.

Premature Alonso. Vettel-Hamilton Playground fight. Schumacher...who??? Hot shot Petrov. One of the most entertaining races in quite some time. Definitely several stellar examples of driving skill... In the vettel-hamilton case, both of them are immature idiots- totally unnecessary and dangerous, they are lucky to not been penalized. IMO, had it been a ferrari in the fracas instead, the powers-that-be would have made sure Hamilton lost his podium finish...

Guess i can eat my words now. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/04/01/new-yor...g-needs-gold-w/ not sure about the looks...certain angles, it looks right...but at least 'that wing' is back! ...and then some cracker marketing guy in japan gives it a really dumb name. http://www.subaru.jp/impreza/anesis/index.html

2000cc petrol vehicle starts at LKR 2000 (if you have paid on time and not missed the deadline date). Note that the luxury tax is paid separately.

Prami- agree with fuzzo...don't take this lying down if the approval was given for a 28k repair. If you get stonewalled by UA, threaten to report them to the Govt insurance watchdog (name always evades me). That said, this is very much dependent on how accurate your situation is...and you have all the necessary paperwork to support your case.

IMO, the endgame is clearly shown on the WRC circuit, where all their origins and success came from- both cars are no longer competitive compared to the the leads. Speaking for the STi camp, i know there's a lot of 'wishlisting' one could have the lightness of the GC chassis (STi 1-6) with the technology that was pumped in the last GD (STi 9)....although the GD chassis was said to be monumentally stiffer and therefore better than the GC- but still had added weight. No one really has a nice thing to say about the current GR chassis...but i think that's also because no one really likes the look of it! As for the Evo- better leave it to those who live and breath Evos to speak to the generation gap

Is that petrol or diesel- very curious how the long term build quality is...
-
Not that it helps too much- but i know the Cleanco/Drive Green results sheet has a "standard" or benchmarked table for the emissions, to compare with...so if you can find someone who recently did the test with Cleanco (with a similar vehicle), you may be able to figure out the the thresholds...

Well, its definitely not numbers typical of a toyota efi- may just be that you need a new set of plugs, throttle body clean up and if really necessary, Fuel System Clean. Do you know the last time this was done?
-
Ah right Type RA...also rare in numbers-350. RA-R is the swansong, and probably the best of any WRX STi made- only 300 of those were made. The new car is just fat, heavy and ugly. http://www.insideline.com/subaru/impreza-w...-type-ra-r.html

Yeah- first thing i saw was a F430 lookalike...but i think i'm more keen to see how it performs...its a McLaren after all...
-
McLaren MP4 12C McLaren's got a new kid in town...to show the old guard how the do things right, yet again? Let's see what the reviews will say...
-
Sure its a RA-R? There's only one well known car in the country which is can be seen daily down Kynsey road. This other white car may well be a Spec C R though...

For those of you who may have a blackberry/smartphone- F1 has released a mobile app which gives live results and timings....I downloaded it y'day and it looks to be working good (albeit buggy and needed a 2nd install to shape up). Superb as you can track timings of qualifying as and when it happens. Url: mobile.f1.com Check downloads link.

Nope! Detour: Here's an amusing Classic STI 'bloodline' webpage, which surprisingly is still maintained by STi Japan... http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/product/impreza/index.html Do a google translate to (try) figure out whats being said! This is useful in figuring out which (classic) STi type based on Chassis number: http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/product/impreza/list.html

This has been discussed before, but that was almost a year back- I can't speak to Allianz or SLI (under the new mgt)... IMO aviva is fantastic and the only company i know of that does not cheat its customers who have older cars (if car is older than 5 years, most 'other' insurance companies will not cover for brand new parts- they will only pay for used parts!) V*P and Jshakthi are worst- i resist using expletives in this case.

Was going on what the Big J of Sen*k told me...if its an original car...thats a big loss since there are very few STi 1.2,3's around...
-
Not sure about the black car, but the silver was just a regular 1500cc wagon...gone and wrapped himself around a lightpost...
-
Was at Senok this morning- there was another hammered rally-prepped black STi (GC8) which looked like it had just rolled/landed on its roof....not sure if its one of the victims from the Sigiriya...but its relieving to see that the rollcage (albeit may not be FIA spec) did its job of protecting the driver... As the works manager said sadly...its been a rough week for the Scoobys!

Theory on cut-butts/"Buds": Take a sheet of cardboard. Fold in the middle. unfold to original full size. Where does it bend without any effort? Right on the fold line. That's a cut butt car...you'll NEVER retain the original integrity, safety or strength no matter how much welding is used to join two parts. Not worth risking your life or the lives of others because its a cheaper option. Add legality and you really don't have one good reason to even consider...
