@Rebel I'm sorry mate but you are in the same boat... 1. He has bad netiquette. 2. He is self opinionated and righteous 3. He barges in to a topic; that whilst may not interest everybody certainly interested the OP, and proclaimed his views to the forum without the intention of helping the guy. refer 2 above Your three points can be pinned to your comments as well if you think about it. Calling people derogatory names on a forum and then typing a reply to justify your statement- whilst it shows you can articulate, does not make you right. Please do not start a flame war here since your last two posts have not contributed anything either to this topic- you are just flaming someone, and I will stand up for anyone I want kthanks Sorry for going off topic there- @ShintaroX- You are right bro, I should have thought better about that statement. I guess I have been driving too long with an older 2L engine . Newer cars of course may have a more consistent efficiency figure because of the technology coupled with their engines like variable valve timing etc. But my point is that to gain maximum miles you simple have to try and cover as much distance as possible while maintaining the greatest velocity. I'm curious though, what car do you drive and is your daily commute one that passes through Galle Road during rush hour?

I find myself a bit of all these at different times....but mostly Petrol Headed Car Enthusiast!

Ok this is a bit harsh. Nothing wrong with him sharing his opinion as well. He just shouldn't have used all caps- bad forum etiquette. That being said, I hardly think that someone who chooses 'driving' his car over it's petrol consumption figure is living in a "cesspool". It's just another person's opinion like we are all sharing here. Let's keep it civil.

My 2 cents- squeezing 10+km per litre out of your car in the city is urban legend. Of course to elaborate on this: The fuel consumption figure you get is the distance traveled divided by the kilometers you have covered so....we all want to travel the farthest while using the least amount of pertol. In most cars, automatic or manual, the best way imo to drive sensibly is to find you car's optimum shift point- say 2500rpm (find the manufacturer recommended optimum shift point for you engine) and just shift at that point. An automatic will generally shift at the optimum rpm if you push the gas pedal reasonably since the ecu does the work for you. Another thing is to try and minimize the use of your brakes. I know that sounds redundant but you have to understand that when accelerating, you are burning fuel to gain kinetic energy and by using the brakes, you are just turning that kinetic energy into heat and sound. So point being...if you want to get maximum miles to the gallon, do not accelerate hard when you judge that you will be braking soon, since all the work done by your engine will be wasted. Also, in the city, when stopped at a traffic light, you are gaining 0 kilometers but fuel keeps burning and the engine runs. Stopping the engine on long traffic jams is alright imo but its just too much of a nuisance to stop and start every time you are stationary. As long as the engine is warmed up and oil has coated the pistons, stopping and starting your engine wont do much damage. Bottom line, when I drive in the city, I try not to worry about petrol consumption since I know every trip I go on is going to give me a different figure- all based on the traffic I will encounter, and I'd rather not think of my fuel consumption figure at every red light. And on out station trips, just enjoy the drive since if your car can make you smile, what else is there?

Hey everyone, I hope it's alright posting like this but I want to get rid of this extra ECU I have for a Manual 2000 Mazda Familia BJ5P/W. I had a problem with an engine miss for some time on my BJ5W and the agents made me bring down an ECU convinced that it was the problem. After I refused to pay their outrageous Rs.160,000 asking price I was able to get one down from Japan and go figure the ECU was not the problem- It was a timing belt issue! So here I am still having the ECU I got down- This was connected to my 2000 Manual BJ5W (1.5L non VVT)and it worked fine just as the original did. If there is anyone out there who has a definite ECU failure this may be a good deal for you. PM me if needed and once again this should be compatible with a 1.5 Liter ZL-DE engine which is in most Mazdas in SL I figure. http://protege323.com/content/24_engines/index.php Here is a pic of the unit- http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/199/img0421x.jpg/

Well the best I can say is that the cars are a quite good value for money. You can probably get a good model in the range of 15-19 Lakhs. As for petrol consumptions, they generally do 8 to 10km\l (Of course you can get more or less depending on your driving style) There's basically no difference between the 2001 or 2002 models, Just YOM. Different engines will be the only performance difference. (1.5 or 1.6L in over here) The cars handle very nicely. The BJ series is manufactured from '98 to 2003 and you can go for the face-lifted model. The engines are responsive and revy. The VVT engine is a bit smoother on the pickup in my opinion. This will also do a bit better on fuel...all depends on you not reving too high between shifts ryt? This is a generally agreed upon fact for all vehicles ya. I've got a 323 hatch myself and it's a very dependable car to own. Parts are readily available in Panchikawatte but are a bit pricey if you compare to the corolla 110. I'm a fan of the car, and will definitely recommend it to anyone who's thinking of buying one. Really fun to drive and it would be my preference over a corolla 110. Corolla has a softer suspension think though coz its just a tad comfier, but the Mazda beats it in other aspects. The 323 is a generally better equipped model with a fewer cosmetic extras over the Familia. That's the only difference. Had a discussion on this earlier.Check the link.. http://forum.autolanka.com/index.php?s...ic=5644&hl= Hope this helps...just my humble opinions... P.s. Not to be a broker or anything, just think you might wanna check this out since ur interested in the car. My brother in law is selling his Blue Familia hatchback. YOM 2000 and manual. I was the previous owner. It's worth checking out.

Whoa those are some of the coolest Hatches I've seen to date! Seriously tricked out! All of them are 2.0 L engines ya...sigh..Lucky buggers!lol! Sadly we have NO ONE in Sri Lanka who is willing to dabble in tuning Mazdas like this ya...They would really make a good business here... Thanks for the link Mazdaspeed!

So nice to see some hatchback fans!! Well here are some specs of my car.. It's Got 4 disks, 4 airbags, Manual, 1.5L VVT engine (130 horsepower as the spec says) Factory fitted Strut bar, sporty black interior and all these add up some pretty happy driving! My dad recently bought it a touch screen DVD player to compliment the interior. Tell me if this is the same model as you owned Velocity... It's got the "new face" as we all call it ya. I'm a BIG fan of Astinas as well...They are manufactured from 89 to 94 as I understand..? very stylish cars still....and comes with some sporty interior options as well...I would always prefer that to a starlet.. NICE ride Charith19!! BTW, has anyone installed cone air filter to their rides? I was thinking of saving up and getting one. The cold air intakes cost a bunch at round 35K ya! Was thinking of just the ram+decent make cone air filter...anyone with experience as to whether or not that's good for the engine? As in do these come with air flow sensors? I'll upload some pics of it...managed to put one on..check it out... Cheers everyone! http://img55.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00643aw5.jpg

My cousins had a Pulsar SRV..It didn't do too well on fuel but that all depends on your driving style. As for the market price, they go from 11 to 14 lakhs. Depending on the Registration and etc. For one that's in very good nick and got G- numbers for example, could be around 12 to 13 ya. Quite a good car, drives smooth but got a bit of a hard suspension. Just my 2 cents...hope it helps..

Awesome post.. The Furai is a thing of beauty...and listen to how it sounds...just like an F1 car!Check it out on Youtube. sigh...lovely piece of design...

Hey everyone out there! This is officially my first post on autolanka. I do go through alot of the forum topics though and they have enlightened me in many ways. Thanks everyone for showing true Sri Lankan motorist comradeship! I wanna get your thoughts on this....who here is a fan of the Mazda 323 hatchback? I'm talking of course about the 2000 and newer models...the BJ5Ws to be specific.(Even the older cars have their own style) But I think these cars can be admired a little closer. These are very sporty cars in my opinion and it's a shame they are not as popular when it comes to 2nd hand markets. (could be a good thing ) I own a 2001 hatchback and she is my pride and joy! The cars have solid driving experience handling-wise and power-wise am I right? And comfort-wise they are excellent! (uhm..maybe not as soft a suspension as Toyota's but still wipes the floor clean ya!) Whenever I see another hatch drive past me I'm always one to admire(not in a envious way of course) I just think that these cars have a very prominent and select "allure" about them. I just wanted to bring out this topic in the hopes of discussing these cars with more hot-hatch enthusiasts out there They do have VVT engines...whats the difference in performance between the Toyota VVT and the Mazda?(Does Toyota's 'intelligent' part meant that they are more technologically advanced or just a trade mark?Coz I find the Mazda 1.5 engine just as smooth, quiet and does have quite a refined pickup...and definitely a close, if not superior competitor with the Toyota. Looking forward to hearing from the Mazda/Ford owners club about this.
