  1. Hi, Is it worth buying a used Japanes car DVD (double din) player for a Corolla 121? Please let me know good/ reiable places in Colombo and about such price range. New chinese players are in 40k range and Japanese players are above 60 range, please help. Thanks
  2. I think atleast five lacks. Shell, Steering wheel, Dashboard, The size of entire car, rear lights are more modern and the new car is bigger and more attractive.
  3. Seems like less replies for 121 x and g differences, by the way how to identify the vehicles month of manufacture apart from the year of manufacture.
  4. In X grade 121s there are 4 speakers for 4 doors
  5. Thanks for all the replies. I think there are X with teak and G without teak ( have seen if not mistaken). Apart from such differences there can be more. X usually have manual airconditioning. Some told X doesnot have a light inside the dickey. Your ideas please.
  6. If anyone could describe me the various differences in Corolla 121 X and G grades, I would be grateful. Thanks
  7. Hi, My first car was FB15 2000 model which I used for 4 years. My father has an FB.. which he uses for 4 years. My Brother inlaw has N16. Now I use a Carina AT212 Ti Myroad 99 model for 3 years. I use cars very carefully and sparingly, and maintain them very well as the need arises. FB is a good car, can get a better fuel figure. But shocks, CV Joint, Ball Joints, Tie Rods, Lower arm bush... repairs should be expected frequently. Same is true with N16(heard). But FBs are more popular than N16, and have higher market. FB is better in interior. Further I had Alternator troubles and trouble in the coils which comes separately for every spark plug and had to replace one of them(Rs 10,000). Several battery replacements too. Carinas are robust in every way. No such repairs for me so far. I had a CV joint boot torn recently, though I have ridden unknown for some time, no CV joint trouble and the boot is Rs.1200 (non genuine) The battery is lasting and still good. Very solid body frame but heavy. Ample space inside and the ride is comparatively comfy. Engine is relatively simple, easier and good space for repair work according to technicians. Interiors especially when teak is very attractive, and the interior is also very robust. My Ti MyRoad does 10km/l (in relatively heavy traffic)and 14 km/l in city and outstation. I had my one doing only 6-7km/l when I bought it. But there are things that you should look for apart from tuning. Then you can improve it( would like to help anybody). Pulling power is very good. (I have not driven an SI My Road)(May not be as same as same class Honda/ My sister had a Jazz-Fit). I have seen carinas throughout. But most of them have very poor interior. But there are ones which has the looks of unregistered ones and very attractive outside as well. These are expensive. Buying a Carina really is an investment. (Though I am planning to switch to Honda) This is a very surface level explanation. But I can go into detail on aspects of Carina. Thanks
  8. Hi Guys, If you have a look at this Japanese site, you will see the Ti MyRoad Carinas are the most expensive in Japan. What is the situation here in Sri Lanka. your comments please. http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan...carina/3452607/ Thanks
  9. Thanks, I wonder whether this guy still work there, I'll check and let no.

  13. Thanks Ruslan, I will check and let you know.
  14. Seems like no one can answer my query!
  15. thanks chana, but mine won't remember, it returns to a particular setting which now has become the default. Any idea?
  16. Hello guys, I prefer Air circulation within/ directed to face and feet ---when A/C is on. How can I make this the default setting, so that it sets when i start engine every time. Earlier it was so, but now it has changed after my two sons played devil on dashboard. Appreciate your help!
  17. Hi, I need some information about Rubber beadings/bushings/ belts and pullys maintenance in a vehicle. Rubber tend to degrade/decompose and dry and crack. Are there any 3M /Wurth or any other product recommended for application and what are their effects. The belts (timing/drive/AC) do they need regular treatment, what are the recommended products.
  18. what to look for when buying a rack?
  19. Now I would rather say the average fuel consumption in the city is 10km/l . This I feel is a good figure for an autogear car. if any of your carina's doing less, better note that it can be improved. Manuals would do much better.
  20. I got to know that it cost about Rs. 16000 for Toyota Carina AT212 through a garage guy. But did not check the prices with dealers.
  21. Hello, there is a steering rack noise in my car. Technicians say that I better need a rack replacement, cos adjustment won't do. No oil leaks from steering pump. Are there places to repair worn off steering racks. How reliable they are. Any expert who does this job well? Need your advice......
  22. I have a very recent experience(3 days ago) in going in a very heavy traffic, which took 3 and 1/2 hours to go from Ekala to Moratuwa in an evening. The rough calculation gave me the figure 9.8km/l , which once again proves the better fuel consumption. (two passengers in the car for half of the journey) i usually donot refuel from older filling stations, but go for newer ones, thinking of the fact that quality of oil/ storage of them matters for performance.
  23. Hi maikk99, I donot know whether is it only the tune-up or the cumulative effect of all the facts. But anyway I will e-mail the details for your convenience. I would like to share certain other factors. I use 90 octane petrol. I switched on from Mobil to Toyota Engine oil/ Toyota ATF oil. Before changing engine oil I used a chemical to clean the engine(remove sludge)which I bought from Arpico SuperCentre Peradeniya.(around Rs.1200) I had my car wheel balanced and wheel aligned. Recently the same garage told me that grease has come out of left CV joint. I think they re-applied grease. I did a Coolant change/flush 6 months ago. I had the belts, tension checked and corrected them. As a practice I run the engine idol for around 3-4minutes before I go in mornings(Whenever engine is cold.) I always shift the gear nutral in traffics whenever the vehicle does not move for more than 1/2 minute. I have avoided running the car for shorter distances(eg; 100m)(start, go and switch-off) I have seen this reduces the fuel consumption which is obvious.
  24. dear car owners I thought of enlightening all on a recent improvement i experienced in my car. I did a proper tune-up 2 months ago, and observed under various conditions before writing this. Now my Toyota Carina AT212 Ti MyRoad, Auto,99 model car does 11km/litre in heavy traffic.if in low traffic it does 13km/litre.Long distance (Kandy Colombo) above 14km/l less than 16km/l. My journey is from Moratuwa(Willorawatta) to Ekala and back in the evening. I start the journey by 0620hrs to reach my work place by 0830hrs. leaves Ekala by 1630 hrs and reach Moratuwa by 1830hrs. This is in the school and office times, mostly mixed traffic. On average two persons (including the driver)travelled in the car.I maintain a constant speed wherever possible, max speed is around 60-70kmph.I try not to raise the RPM above 2k. Tune-up done at S--r automobiles, Kandana, using 3M kit. They said, they particularly cleaned the idol sensor which was covered with soot/dust.Replaced the plugs (NGK) instead of Denso. The air filter and auto gear oil is fairly new.Did not replace the fuel filter. I think this information would be valuable to carina owners.
  25. I recently came across a few carinas (AT 212 Ti MyRoad)made in 99/2000/ 01 whose owners claimed of them doing over 10km/l in the city. One was unbelievably 13km/l in the city.(year 2000). All these cars were to be sold. when I came back to my fuel figures 7-8km/l in the city and 15km/l outstation after changing plugs, fuel filter, air filter, engine oil and ATF and tune-up. I am still trying to increase my city consumption at least to 10km/l. Recently, when the Toyota experts checked the overall car in an inspection, the condition of the plugs were remarkable with good fuel burning. (but i did not mention the fuel economy issue) they drove it and there weren't any mention of repair needs except for a steering rack adjustment. but the car is having a slight oil leak probably from the crank oil seal and packings of the crankcase. the condition of the radiator is bad with a lot of rust.(Am planning to replace the radiator initially. With all this information, and the plugs being good, do I still have to go for a ECU reset or a sensor check from the Agents? what is your opinion Carina lovers?
