  1. 5-10k changing the axle wont be necessary because it only affects the performance of the bump stop. slightly, unless you are doing a full noah conversion and serious about the originality
  2. If you drive down havelock road you'd spot this place. its between dickamans road junction and park road junction. they order cars directly from the parent company apparently. they haven't started servicing mercs yet. But will soon.
  3. yes but aren't they different offenses on the book?
  4. not easy rule of thumb, the taller the dismounted spring the lesser the stiffness so go to a shop thats famous for noah parts and find lots of sets that are the the same diameter, same tops and bottoms and the same coil thickness and pick a pair that has the same coloured paint marks on them and the same height. this is quite a gamble cos you might end up with the same stiffness or stiffer ones. if you end up with the right article ideally you should change the bump stops too cos the non noah once are long and tend to bottom out quite easily.
  5. But aren't they booking us for reckless driving if we are caught speeding these days? havent been stopped for that yet. but i'm guessing its an easy one to get out of if you argue with them long enough about how speeding and reckless driving are two different offenses.
  6. you can get the complete kit i.e. an original noah diesel completely taken apart and shipped to sri lanka (without the frame) for about 800k. or you could get the cosmetic and electrical parts (doors interior harnesses lights and bumpers) from 250k to 400k The technician will be yours truly looked at a few vans done by other professional ones. they weren't as original as they could be so I did everything by myself except the metal work. but even those were done under complete supervision from me well its not a lot. front suspension is similar to the van versions in all noahs so no point meddling with that. at the rear you get softer springs and different bump stops and axles have different contact area for the bump stops on a noah. in the 7 seat version (Liteace V/Townace Royal lounge) the springs get even softer. and on the 4wd you get taller and relatively harder springs on all models. if you are looking for springs alone its really difficult to find them on their own cos you can hardly tell them apart. plus you might end up with two springs of different hardness. also these piaggio ape guys are buying all the noah springs that arrive in the country cos they fit their three wheelers nicely while improving carrying capacity. nothing major the van version has square sections where bump stops come into contact. in the noah the bump stops are different so the axles dont have these square sections Bump stops are the rubber blocks that stop suspension parts from bottoming out against one another like defendertdi has show in the pic
  7. finished last feb. took 3 months. dont have many pics of the build but will post pics of what was changed like before n after. here's a pic I took while we were holidaying in chilaw
  8. F*g express LOL
  9. On a side note here are some of the parts our noah builders ignore Rear coil springs front and rear differentials (on some models) rear axle rear bump stops 3rd row seat mounting brackets ABS (on most of the pre 2001 june dx models) mouldings noah windscreen I'll discuss the differences between all the parts when I post about my complete noah build. when I got some free time that is
  10. People here are abusing the name Noah. this doesnt look like a complete job cos its lacking one of the most crucial bits. this also raises the question how many other parts are actually missing. so you can't really expect a fully dressed up versions price. also its pretty stupid but the diesel converted kr's fetch prices way lower than original diesels. cos if done properly both are identical. so assuming this vehicle carries a G or an H reg I'd say its worth about 2.8 mil on trade or 2.6 mil private.
  11. PM'd you a few places. One shopkeeper mentioned they've broken up so many diesel Noah's its as if there aren't any left in japan
  12. before asking how much a lower arm is it would help a lot if you mention what your cars are. on a side note, autolanka awards is coming up. this thread will definitely be a nominee for a certain segment
  13. Range Rover Classic. I'm actually looking for one to restore
  14. no this one was opened quite recently. showrooms on havelock road could be even 3. afaik they brought down 2 white ones and he kept the tan interiored one
  15. The white e class belongs to a friend of mine. his family owns a merc dealership. he also has a blue slk 350. They sure bring down some nicely specced mercs. you seem to have caught him when he was doing his so called "convertible trip"
  16. I'm not surprised Mr. Upali Darmadasa refused to comment on the car. These days media is just a big hate spreading mechanism. I'm not saying all of these media corporations are, but you know what I'm talking about. And why is it working so well? cos of all these people (not pointing fingers at anyone) who had something go wrong during their development phase when they were growing up and they ended up asking for the most fundamental of needs (look at all those demonstrations everyday), without blaming themselves for the mess they are in and working hard to get out of it. And did I mention they also hated every single person who worked a little harder and got something better than them? nothing personal. just food for thought
  17. If the car in question really is jdm then you've ended up with a slightly done up "x-assista" version. afaik jdm models didnt carry xl or gl badges. anyway the x-assista was the most basic rolla and it came with naked steel rims. airbags were optional in some versions. go to this website http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html and enter your frame number and it'll tell you which version your vehicle is.
  18. funny cos I had some trouble with 3 cops last friday. won't be surprised if they were the same ones anyway I was driving along galle road when a police car pulled up along side me and the cop driving it asked me to pull over. so I pulled up in front of them but no one got out and came up to me. so I got down and walked up to the passenger side and asked what's wrong. the 2nd cop was like you just used your cell phone while driving. I realised they mistook the bottle of "my power" I had in my hand since I got in for a cell phone so I tried to explain it to them and show them my phone and the calls I made and received. they were like that won't be necessary and told me to give them my license. I told them to get lost cos I haven't committed an offence. at that point rather casually they said "oh then you can go to the courts" and took down my registration number. I lost my temper and I shouted at them to my hearts content and drove off. they were probably looking for quick buck I guess. Sadly at that point I didn't know you can't file a case against someone with just their vehicle registration. If I did I could have certainly given them a beating. Anyway the police department is fast becoming a joke. I wish the heads of state would do something about this.
  19. 3c-te is the quietest, most refined and most economical of the lot. people don't usually touch this engine because its semi electronic and because of that there's a shortage availability and parts. so its difficult to find ultra low mileage engines. also most people will somewhat hesitate to buy a vehicle with this engine for obvious reasons. its a bit more complex a conversion too because you'll need the ecu, dashboard and engine harnesses and instrument panel for a successful conversion, and the full 3c-te exhaust to get the full performance. not to mention the scooped bonnet that usually goes for about 45k. because you are running a k engine at the moment you'll need a new gearbox and ideally you should get new diffs too. I found the entire kit once for 550k which included a myriad of parts including the bonnet (though i managed to buy one for 28k at another shop). All in all an expensive and a difficult conversion if you don't get all the parts from one place in one go. but if i were you i'd do it anyway and use the vehicle for a several years. anyhow if you want to play it safe you can always go for the 3c-t. you can find a nice clean low mileage engine with some effort and parts are readily available. compared to the 3c-te this one doesnt need upgrades that stretch into the cabin. and a good electrician can easily wire up the engine. it will still keep up with 3c-te cos its only 3 bhp and 10 Nm shorter. This conversion kit would retail at around 350k for a 2wd and close to 400k for a 4wd (with diffs and gearboxes) don't forget the 3c-t radiator. you'll definitely need one for uphill driving. it will come bundled if you are buying a kit
  20. argh! must have one
  21. price depends on your yom, registration, which engine you used (2c,3c,3c turbo, 3c turbo ic), if you used original parts or modified existing parts. no cons if you used original cr parts for the modification.
  22. I don't know what the serious damage is but i'm guessing its along the lines of overheating. I once pushed an overhauled engine a little hard and pierced a hole in the oil cooler. because everything is working at factory tolerances and optimal pressure the weaker parts could give in. anyway in a real rebuild all worn parts must be replaced so I guess it was worth it.
  23. the idea is to drive at moderate engine speeds and not over rev the engine. same goes for brand new vehicles. the reason for this is the pistons and cylinder linings are new and there are slight imperfections on them so they need to form grooves on them to slide against each other smoothly. after 10000 kms your engine will be nicely run in. So don't wast time driving at 40 all the time or give the engine a hard time accelerating hard to 40. just keep the revs below 2000 rpm and you should be ok.
  24. These new regulations they are talking about? how's one going to be enlightened on them? The last thing you'd want is an idiot in a van tailgating you at 100 km/h when a sales rep in a maruti suddenly pulls up in front of you with no warning doing just 40. In typical sri lankan fashion the public won't be properly informed about how much more discipline is needed drive at these speeds. Also the few self proclaimed intelligent individuals who learn about this will quickly dismiss this information cos they clearly know better. Also expect a lot of cheapskates backing up on the hard shoulder cos they just drove 900 metres past their exit.
  25. front subframe = front suspension bar set (in baas language)
