Cool. Good on you. You will see the difference after the clean - car goes like a rocket and the engine is extra smooth. Cheers,

Also make sure that any fluid and filter changes (gearbox filter) have been done as required on the tiptronic box. The box is supposed to be more fuel efficient than the manual strangely and its a six speed if I remember right but you need to make sure its been maintained right. On the plus side - you will have the option of installing the BMW paddle shift onto the steering wheel which is ultra cool !! Cheers,

Will find it and upload it and share the link. Cheers,

Hi Actually the BMW TIS (Manual) only recommends that the injectors be removed and cleaned ultrasonically. They don't recommend any petrol additive injector cleaners. Only two places that I know of have the machine - one is D*MO's and the other is actually the chap who is the agent for the machine. Goes by the name of ASNU lanka and charges about 4k for the clean. Does a pretty decent job of it and the car was essentially flying after the clean. PM me and I will share his contact. Very knowledgeable chap. I actually brought down a set of upper and lower sealing o-rings when I did the clean but that chap has the generic o-rings available if necessary. Cheers,

Hi Rangerover, Welcome to the world of the E46. Actually replacing the swirls is not a difficult procedure to slightly mechanically minded. I do a lot of maintenance on my and my friends E46's - most facelifted. The only tough bit with removing the manifold is that there are two bolts holding it under it and one needs to be removed from under the car. once its out the manifold isn't too easy to pull out. Actually the whole procedure is detailed in pictures in the BMW TIS dvd. I've removed my manifold, replaced all the seals, replaced the pcv valves and had the injectors ultrasonically cleaned without too much issue at all. Took only about half a day since the injectors needed to be taken to a place for cleaning. Points to look out for on the E46 - keep your lower under arm bushes in good steed - otherwise they will cause the inner edges of the tyre to wear out unevenly. Quite a common problem for the E46. Otherwise all in all a very decent car and the diesels are ultra economical to run. (Had a pre-facelift 320d before the current one). Prestige will charge you quite a bit for labour for removal of all the bits but I'm not too sure whether they will go for fitting non std stuff into it. Usually they are pretty decent - and you can talk to their gm engineering - shavi peiris who is quite a decent and knowledgeable chap. Advisable to get a labour quote before hand though as it can potentially be quite high. Have been using e46's for more than 4 years now so would be happy to share any knowledge with you. Cheers,

Actually I bought it un-regged and in the 3 years I used it replaced a rear brake washer. That was it. - Parts / filters were available from the usual Honda spot in Panchi and used to run it on Mobil 1 with Mobile fully synth gear oil as well. Serviced at cl**np**k. Pretty reliable vehicle on the whole much like most Honda EFI's. Cheers, PS:- Also have the PDF service manual somewhere if someone wants it. Good to have as a backup as all dismantling and maintenance procedures are detailed in it.

Actually can confirm the 10kmpl. Used a manual 2wd for 3 years - economy was unbelievable. Used to do 16+ on the outstation routes - not kidding at all. Cheers,
-
Hi, Is it a 4wd or 2wd / auto or manual ? Cheers,

Rohantha gets his stuff down from Singapore ? By the way curious as to what bits you're looking for and for what model. Cheers,
-
ah ok cool. Let us know what your final price is. Cheers,

Go for it. Have been using one for over 3 years now. Diesel before it. recently my brother also bought one and have quite a few friends with the same model. Decent power and economy and overall a pleasure to drive. Maintenance is also not bad at all - even if you service at the "Stealers" (as they seem to be universally called) All the Best. MadMMx

Just out of curiousity how much would the merc work out to under this permit ? I assume you're looking at the 1.6 supercharged version ? Cheers, MadMMX

Sure - dis works fine but you need to use it on a virtual machine using vmware. You also will need an Ediabas / Inpa cable available for about 20 dollers off ebay. Not difficult to put together at all. The software was a bit of a pig to get it running but the effort is all worth it. Let me know if you wanna give this route a try. Cheers,

HI, Good info. I used to maintain my Diesel BMW with the said chap and that was my first experience with BM's - there was a little trepidation with using prestiege at the time as I only had heard of them and not actually done anything there. Subsequently when I got the petrol it was actually the said chap who suggested that since the car was quite new at the time that I should go to them. Never had any major issues with him but since I stay in Colpety the drive up to Kelaniya was pretty tedious and I also after doing a lot of research lined up my spares channels directly from UK - which I find is extremely cheaper for genuine stuff direct from a BMW dealer there. Also have had pretty decent experience with Shavi and his advise is quite sound. Also since then have done extensive research into the subject and now have the BMW DIS (the diagnostic system that they use in prestiege) and the programming module fully operational on my home pc. This really helps as diagnostics becomes that much easier for the smaller parts and it allows me to re-code the accessories into the car without having to take it back to the agents for recode. This is really cool and give you a lot of freedom when adding the infinite gadgets that are available to fit on to the car. Cheers, Druvi.

Ah actually was wondering if you had any comments about the people who did the maintenance on it

Hi, You can look on the torrents and on the bm forums but me thinks its not going to be easy to find a nav cd that covers this part of asia. On the brighter side - you can't mess up the car by putting in a wrong cd so don't worry about that. On the sensors - you're better off sourcing them from uk - 1/6th the cost of pretiege - what sensor is not working ? Cheers, MadMMx

Hi guys, Just my exp - been using e46's for over 4 years now - the experience it pretty good.Had a diesel 320d and now a 318i. Yes the maintenance is a bit more than the jap cars but the service interval is pretty decent - for diesel once in 14000km's or once a year and for the petrol facelift - once in 25000 or once a year. Service at prestiege isn't too expensive - filter + synth oil is about 12k. every other service u need to replace the pollen filter about 4k locally or about 2.5k from uk and the airfilter - about the same price as the other filter. Parts - prestige kills you ! Much cheaper to get your parts directly from a uk dealer - expect 1/6 to 1/8 of the prestiege price for genuine bm parts. Haven't used any oem german parts myself. Prefer to be safe. On running costs the 320d takes the cake. Extremely economical and used to do 600km's on a super diesel tank, Of course the services were a little more expensive. The 318i facelift is also pretty decent giving from 8.5 to 9.5 depending on your driving style. There is a no bs economy meter on the clock to tell you what your economy is ! Well it does help if you have a working BMW DIS (factory diagnostics) at home That way the agents can't screw you on their cockeyed diagnostics. The cars are pretty good at diagnosing their own problems without having to have basses to experiment and remove and put parts into it. @VVT - am detecting a bad experience - care to share ? Cheers, Madmmx

Hey Guys, Here's some pics that I took at Sepang 2010 from where I just got back from. Super race !! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=4021...mp;id=720220061 Cheers,

Ah on the obc fitted inside ? u may need to plug it into a diags and clear the faults otherwise try the battery trick (ie pull the battery out and leave it a while for the obd2 to reset) Cheers,

Yeah don't think emission will be a big issue - though be careful not to damage any lambda sensors when fiddling with the exhaust as they are pretty pricey and can mess up your tuning if they become defective. AC-S stuff is pretty expensive but believe there are cheaper pretty decent ones - there is a brand starting with a D in UK - can't remember the rest of the name though - but actually with our local buggers u need to be careful - especially when they fabricate the bends - abroad there are things called mandrel bends which you can purchase separately and weld on to your custom exhaust and ensure that the bend doesn't impede the airflow of the exhaust otherwise u may end up with less performance than the stock Cheers,

Actually I replaced the 4 on my BM recently Genuine BM parts - Power ERA coils - 4 cost me 6000 + 2000 shipping from UK Courtesy of Ebay. It pays to keep an eye open. I had got 4 and kept a while back - then suddenly blew one - engine was stuttering - diags revealed that Coilpack no 1 was non functional. Useful to have a couple spare cause its a common problem on the petrol bm;s. Cheers,

There is a joint opposite the Tigo centre down duplication road in Bamba called Supun super centre - they get lots of stuff from Dubai - think they had a few for about 3k+ Cheers,
-
Congrats but man aren't the pencil coils real expensive ? even prestiege here takes 25k for 4 bmw ones !!but u can source for half that price in UK. Cheers,
-
True agree with you but on the BM for instance - I've seen under the head cover and inside the sump so the current service schedule works fine. The BM's have a component called the PCV (or CCV - crank case ventilator) that which is essentially a filter which needs to be replaced like every 50000 kms. If this get clogged up - you could potentially end up with a sludging problem but otherwise no major issues. After 50k on the BM under the rocker cover looks brand new - no sludge to be seen nor any in the sump. So I can vouch for that. I wonder whether the jap cars have a ventilator valve like the PCV for oil vapor re-circulation. Cheers,

You think so ? I used to run my HRV manual on Mobil 1 change every 9 months and the oil colour seemed quite fine - the clean park chaps used to always say that the change was in vain and that you could run more ? When they change the oil in the current car closer to once a year running on Castrol Fully syn, the colour seems pretty decent - no darkish colour ..etc that you would see for instance when changing the mini fully mineral oil. Actually have used mobil 1 for all my previous jap cars and never had any issues. - Nissan / Honda ...etc. Even the BM diesel which used to use Mobil never gave out darkish blackish looking oil. Just my opinion. Cheers,
