  1. Found this today. I'm surprised it's still being made. http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/volkswagen/kombi/first-drives/first-drive-review-volkswagen-kombi Just made me wonder if any other ancient relics are still being manufactured around the world.......?
  2. Thanks Don. Yes I've read that the fwd chassis was very good.
  3. True but I've seen just one in SL. So cannot consider it for this.
  4. True but I've seen just one in SL. So cannot consider it for this.
  5. Yes 15k produced. Can't find how many survive. Wiki even mentions Sri Lanka as a market where they were exported to. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Sera Also noticed that the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 was the first with car with dihedral doors. Hmm you learn something new everyday. There is a UK forum but I can't find the number of survivors on "How many Left" http://www.omicron.uk.com/sera/forum/index.php?act=idx
  6. Interesting ad' Supra . "If ready only call me...." never seen that term before. I'm certainly not ready to live with the "red" plasticky interior. Either straight to the upholsterer or darker sunglasses for me and the passenger.
  7. Can't argue with Gordon. I did not know the term "dihedral doors" too and that's the correct description for that kind of door. Many of us usually tend to generalize lots of things and call all swing-up doors Gull wings. That's a good discovery Crazy Life.
  8. For Future Classics I just thought of the Mitsu FTO. Amazing how I've not seen one for ages...... I've read a few good reviews but never had the pleasure of driving one myself. Can anyone tell me what they are like to drive?
  9. Peri the one I saw was painted a pearlscent white. And looked really good. I've driven the V6 (wonder how many are here?), but it was a very short drive. I think that 1.8 V6 is the lowest capacity V6 ever produced. However I must say that the 4 pot is also a real gem to drive. Drove our very own Pradfred's car from Bandarawela to about half way to Colombo and thoroughly enjoyed it. The handling is fantastic, the ride is good and the steering is nicely weighted. In fact imo it's a lot better in every area compared with a CRX 2 which I have also driven a lot. That drive did not end very well though as I was whipping the car off and having a load of fun and laughing a lot which turned out to be a bit too much. I managed to bust the delightful gearbox in the process. Managed to nurse her home though.
  10. You could be right Crazy Life. How many would you say survive?
  11. Thanks Davy. Appreciated.
  12. The Kingswood I'm referring to is the HQ. I like the look.
  13. VVTi, only two in SL and one is with a diesel
  14. carboy you're right they were maroon. The hood was not white but more beige if I recall right. Not sure if they were auto or man, but they had column shifts. Yes very very comfy.
  15. I have a bad habit of never noting the number Crosswind. It was a late 1970's model I'd say. At the relatively large old car place on the left side of the road between the Airport and Negombo junc. That guy sometime is able to find some interesting cars. There was a very old van Jowett if I recall and a 50's Simca. The guys name is Sumith. I used to have his number but it's vanished after changing phones a few times.
  16. I think the Cedric and Gloria were essentially the same car. They looked very alike. Yes Celicas are as good as extinct I believe.
  17. Thought so about the Beat and Cuppa. Not so sure about the Autozam/MX3 though a few months ago I saw a white one in very good shape and this week I saw a decent black one near Kotte. Both had not been de-faced as yet, thankfully.
  18. Crosswind I saw one 'President' in Negombo. It's gotta diesel lump but still on the Petrol number. And the interior and exterior look decent. All the trim seemed to be intact. I'm quite positive that a V8 can be found and brought down from overseas. Your right about the Fairlane. Crude buses. 70's Holdens, I see a few Statesman around occasionally. So I doubt finding one will be hard. Almost all are said to have come with I6's though, so you will have to import a V8 from down under. I recall when I was a kid there were so many HQ Kingswoods around. Not seen one for ages. Rust must have taken them down. Like the rear end of the Kingswood. A bit Camaro-ish.
  19. Thanks Gummy. Cedric, now that's a name I have not heard in a long long time And there was a Gloria too. What were they thinking ? I think most have rusted away or running with diesel conversions. Not sure of their ability to achieve classic status. I mean they were not really known for anything good other than being cheap and big weren't they? Those two Nissan Presidents though are definitely worth something with their V8s. I know about 5 guys craving for a TA22 Toyota Celica but have not been able to find one for years. Galant Lambda, too rare too. What do you think about those Jap Kei sports cars? Suzuki Cuppacino, Honda Beat etc? Latter day MG/Healey Sprigets?
  20. Good one Nexus. Do you think there are many left?
  21. Sorry there are 2 cars. The JM diesel and a red petrol.
  22. 1.d) Morris Traveller? - Already sought after 2.g) Starlet KP6X? - Starlet 40 and 60 series RWD for sure. 3.g) Mazda Miata/MX-5/Eunos NA series? - MX5 is already highly sought after. The MX3/Autozam is something to think about.
  23. Hi VVTi the E30 is already fully valued if not over valued in my humble opinion. E34 has more time I guess, I think the E32 should be ahead of the E34 but hey then where do we draw the line? W126 S-Class surely, W124 E-class? 190? There's a whiff of utility about these cars as they are in everyday use right now. Maybe the coupe, convertible, high performance versions......... which again make them ultra rare.
  24. Under valued Classics. These are already sort after by the Classic Car fraternity as you would see at their Motor Shows. I'm looking for the undiscovered gems. 70's Retro. Renault 4 definitely. Missed that one. Celeste much more desirable than Lancer. Other two are too boring I feel.
  25. Definitely a Sri Lankan perspective Don and I expect there to be a lot of controvesey
