from what i saw, de silva's valuations are a bit higher (say 10% - 15% more) than typical sale price. This is just my personal observation. its ok if you want to finance/insure but not much help to a buyer IMO what do you guys think?
-
what to do de silva is OK but don't they value a bit more than the typical selling price of the vehicle? I would consider taking a vehicle I buy there but then since they value 'more' won't the vehicle owner try to increase price? any advice or suggestions wouldbe appreciated.

Hi guys just wondering if anyone here has/had a tercel/corsa, and what your opinion of the car is? how so they compare to corollas etc I notice theres quite a price difference between this car vs other toyotas
-
which one is that?

Anyone know of an easy way to find recommended pricing for a car? I do know 'desilva' values cars but their valuations dont seem realistic is there any chance autolanka admins would consider pooling together data and coming up with some rough price guides for popular cars? personally I'm helping a friend get a car and I have no clue on whats a good price because 'asking' prices are so absurd and far fetched

Yup, I've been practicing a bit - though its quite hard in SL some of those techniques can kill you here Personally I had some major fun with pulse and glide driving (but was too scared to swtich off the engine haha)* http://metrompg.com/posts/pulse-and-glide.htm (for more on pulse and glide) I can confirm that stuff works and incredibly so but I don't advocate turning off the engine entirely here in SL Ultimately, driving style makes huge differences on fuel economy, Not only did p&g save some fuel but it really puzzled my family members and confused the hell out of people behind me!

Mitsu 1500cc 4g15 565km highway trip average engine speed 65km/h@2200 rpm, 14.52km per liter (Some areas with good roads I hit 16km/l) note: AC on, 2 passengers, 1 back seat driver

@madhawa, admins guys, if you have some time would you consider making a table of all this info sorted from most efficient to least efficient? I think it will be very useful for everyone. Also, have you ever considered organizing a hypermiling contest? that would be an interesting way to help people learn to have less impact on environment (and maybe save money), and also get some positive press for autolanka and its members also it would be very interesting to find sri lanka's most efficient driver :)

wow, and i thought i was the only one who liked that site donno much about how to make an ev but its been on my list of 'things to do before i die' please update autolanka when you get started on your EV. it would be awesome to see that personally, I wanna see a homebrew e-tuktuk someday
-
excellent advice! thanks DHP. one thing is the wattage of the cheaper panels is very low.. 40w for 20k is reasonably good value for money ebay is a good idea though donno how to get them to SL.. wll explore and see what i can come up with!
-
sadly that car is rather old/rare so finding parts maybe rare. it depends onwhat you want. if you want components you may have to check the junkyards but for regularly replaced stuff, e.g. timing kits, you may have luck checking around panchikawatte or if you go to a good garage they will get what you need?
-
Well I was going for eclectic ventroquilist.. but yes, EV would be a good idea too * I really hope someone tries to convert a tuktuk. the low weight would mean it could easily run on a couple car batteries and a small dc motor if someone set up a company offering conversions they could make money *and* reduce pollution. donno if that would happen but it would be awesome to see an electric tuktuk (etuk?) ive also mentioned buddy van because they are so light and theres lots of room for cheap car batteries, and a nice space for a small motor i hear there are complete kits to convert cars to ev's.. also people can manually do this by using a small powerful dc motor, e.g. from an electric forklift * J/K! No rudeness intended!

I've always wanted to make a homebrew EV have any of you thought about this, or know anyone who has done it? Ideally something likea buddy van, or even a tuktuk would be an interesting project to do

thanks i spoke to a company called access something they had some used 40 watt panels for around 20k (25 year warranty, made by BP) The gentleman i spoketo said that this type of panel generates 12v 3.5a or so which seems good this would be a fun way to charge a car battery and power one ortwo 12v lights and a fan when the electricity goes off if you compare it with a generator, costs are the similar but you dont need fuel for this in theory if one didnt need an AC this just would probably be enough for a single person's power needs which makes me wanna move to Kandy
-
will do thanks! from what i understand, converting a whole house to solar would be $30,000++ in one way thats a lot, on the other hand considering I get a monthly bill which is over $100, it seems an interesting possibility. personally, id love to get a small panel just to experiment with iit and perhaps use for backup system

the ke20 is an extremely efficient car. 6km/l seems wrong are you sure? try running a fixed distance and recalculate? if its that inefficient, maybe something is messed in the carb? try taking to a reputed garage and get them to check it out.. maybe the carb is not calibrated correctly.

very useful post.. any chance admin can sticky this? Personally, I got my last vehicle with a small lease, mainly so the finance company could handle paperwork and ensure everything is kosher The tip on insurance co's is a good idea - though how would it work? can you call them and say hey i want to buy vehicle XX-XXXX - do you have it on file and does it really belong to [name] would they divulge that info over the phone? privacy concerns?

Awesome!! We've beaten Congo with a little effort we should be able to move up the list to a higher position by next year. I know its a tough thing but I'm sure the powers that be will ensure we rank better next year (and beat pesky Ethiopia)

Hi guys... anyone know places which bring down solar panels here in SL? I've always wanted to get myself a small panel... after all, the one damn thing we have here in abundance is SUNLIGHT (and they havent figured a way to tax us for that.. YET)!!

can anyone advise me on the official speed limits in Sri Lanka? I gather it is around 55 in city, but what about outstation, "highways", etc? is there a countrywide law or does it depend on location?

can I recommend you a B11? or a toyota KE72 wagon? both can be got in the 300 - 400 range, which will leave you about 200 - 300 to do up the vehicle they may not be as ricecool as a honda, but they are both reliable vehicles, especially the toyota wagon.. man that thing goes and goes Also, if you need to make it cool, you can paint it black and put lotsa stickers Did a check of the classified and found the following http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=5937 this is a good car.. but price is a bit high.. if its available maybe you could negotiate? http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=5889 nice TOYwagon!! you may be able to get this with some negotiation http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=5755 A nice Mitsu!! http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=5721 this may be older than you.. but c'mon dude.. its a merc, chicks dig that bad boy! its got class.. and looks pretty good http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=5624 very nice car friend of mine once drove one of those over a roundabout at 80km/h, car barely had a scratch (he was drunk haha) http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=3573 toyota + 4wd = awesome http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=6438 Another 4wd tercel!!

dude better make sure the MINI is the car for you. (I may be shot by our mini expert) but in my opinion, better go for a japanese car. Or if you are going for a MINI, make sure its the car you want. I'd recommend you take your time as this price range (600k) good cars are rare.. so take your time and get an expert to check the car BEFORE you buy maybe someone on autolanka can help you check the car, or maybe a garage will? good luck, let us know how it goes
-
And if you make a mistake you can always get rid of her and get another or upgrade j/k back on topic may I recommend a Mitsubishi Lancer/mirage? if you hunt a bit you may be able to get an early 90s model its a comfy car and sure goes quite nicely! I would recommend this vs the honda crx as that would be an 80s model (older) last but not least, if you have a stable job you can consider putting the 600 as a deposit and getting a lease for a newer car either way, best of luck!

think i found a photo here http://www.carsurvey.org/modelyear_Toyota_Corolla_1993.html Seems like a rare car
