Regarding the Honda, My mechanic has the same sentiments in terms of reliability, maintenance, as well as fuel economy, How much did it average on fuel? was it an automatic? i am presuming the engine was 2000CC
-
@Clark's son, i could not agree with you more. Some of the by lanes i come across in, deep in the heart of Colombo, is ridiculous. Even recently, the bottom of my car ended up getting damaged, thanks to a massive crater in the middle, of the road, And mind you, i am currently driving a mazda 323 which has a decent amount of ground clearance for a car.
-
Guys, these were only the practical aspects.. but i have really wanted to own an SUV for the longest time, and now i have got the chance. Also, what can you tell me about the Honda CRV RD5, i got some feedback mentioning that it is a good jeep? and even good on fuel when compared with Other SUV's Have any of you used this vehicle?
-
Here are the reasons why: For daily office running (So at least should be marginally economical on fuel) I travel outstation a lot on weekends with the family, so i need a vehicle with very good ground clearance Vehicle should be spacious to carry at least 5 people with luggage Should not be too old, at least 2000/2001 model

Guys, so i thought about it a lot and have decided to upgrade my budget to about 3.5 million, since i planning to use the SUV i buy for at least 5 more years. What would be my options now? I saw some Totyota Rav4J's which fit my new budget.
-
Yes, i am planning to go for a 4WD version.
-
The reason i am a bit concerned about fuel is because the vehicle will be a daily runner. But i have been fairly warned by everyone about the high maintenance costs., best bet would be for me to get a well maintained vehicle..
-
My mechanic told me that finding spare parts will not be an issue, and that the maintenance costs will be high. But overall the X trail is a good vehicle. So the hunting begins....
-
Well when you put it like that... but i get your point.. hmmm decisions decisions..
-
Hmmm all in all, i guess this is a choice, i don't want to go for a diesel which is too old, and i don't have a budget beyond 3mil. so i think i am still going to go ahead with the X-trail, its a decent SUV which i can afford. Maybe i will consider going for a manual, since i am sure it does at least 7kmpl if you keep going at minimum revs..
-
Any idea, if the manual version does any better in terms of fuel? at least 8?
-
Had a look at the CRV RD1, seems like a decent SUV, i like to looks as well.. can someone tell me more about this vehicle?
-
Hi what can you tell me about the CRV in terms of fuel, parts etc.. had a look at a few including the RD5, seems like a decent choice for me.
-
Hi, Thanks for your insight. my budget is around 2.8-3 mil (Max), i considered a tucson (2002 - 2003), but my mechanic advised against it. the only thing which has me worried with the x-trail is the fuel consumption, since i want to use it as a daily runner. Any idea about the manual version of it in terms of fuel consumption? I am hoping to get a well maintained one, and i will take my time looking for one. Already had a look at two, and i was not happy with their condition.

Here are a few other options which i am considering. Please share your thoughts Kia Sorento 2004 model Hyundai Santa Fe 2002-2004 models Hyundai Tucson 2001-2003 models Mazda tribute - 2001 model

Guys, I am thinking of purchasing a Nissan X-trail 2001 model Automatic (NT30 i believe) What are your thoughts of this vehicle in terms of the following: Fuel consumption (I am planning to use if for daily office travel, plus regular trips outstation) General faults of the vehicle (Common known issues) Availability of spare parts Price of spare parts please share your thoughts. Thanks. Dinesh

No it does not have climate control.

The compressor disengages and there is no cooling
-
Guys, thanks for all your valuable inputs. So based on all of the comments, i have come up with a list of possible issues: Bad A/C switch in the dashboard (simplest problem first) The cooling fan operation when the compressor is engaged Check the gas pressure Check if the compressor has a refrigerant temperature switch and also if there is a dual pressure switch mounted on the receiver assembly (Providing the the Mazda A/C system has all these components). As for the latest update. The A/C failed twice yesterday, while driving back at night. when i revved the engine and turned the A/C back on again, the compressor engaged and it worked for a few minutes before failing once more. In the morning today while coming to work, there were no issues, and it worked perfectly.. I think it has a mind of its own.. btw "TheClutch", the blower fan is working fine
-
Thanks, i think i will start by eliminating those possibilities first.

Guys, i am having a very strange problem with my car A/C. It works fine most of the time, but suddenly, it just goes dead, as in, there is no cool air coming in at all. After i park the car for a few hours, and start driving again, the A/C works fine! There is no pattern to this problem, as in, it works fine for a few days, and then all of a sudden this happens. I have noticed that when it happens, it is usually after about a good hour of driving with the A/C on. My initial suspicion was with the Alternator, since the car cuts off the A/C compressor, if the alternator output voltage is low. But the problem does not happen at night when i drive with the lights on etc.. Any ideas. my guess is that the problem is with either the A/C compressor or the alternator..

Hi Guys, Ok, as in the case with most of us, we are not blessed with being able to afford driving our vehicles to work everyday. I myself am a weekend vehicle user most of the time. So my question is this. My car ends up staying on a side on average for about 5-6 days without being used. So is this bad for the vehicle? if that is the case how often does a vehicle engine need to run in order to prevent it from getting any issues....
-
Hi guys, Thought of firing this thread up again. Ok so the latest is that i recently purchased a Mazda 323, i'm getting the car today actually. I need some general information from you guys when it comes to the service and maintenance of the vehicle. How much does it usually cost for a ATF oil change? What is the standard ATF oil which used on these cars? What is the recommended engine oil for this car and how much does it cost? How much would a general service cost if i replace the air filter, oil filter and engine oil in one go? Thanks in advance...

Hello Nilan, Saw the pictures, nice ride.. Thinking of adding a spoiler to my car as well. Will try and upload some pictures during the weekend. Opening a website will be a good start. I also suggest that you identify a few more fiore owners and communicate your idea to them as well. If you can get about 5 or six guys together, that will be a good start for your club. The fiore is a car which came with many variations.. which makes some of the models quite rare and that much more interesting to own.. lets definitely keep in touch. you can contact me on [email protected] keep me updated with your work.. cheers.

Hello Nilan, Excellent initiative machang. I would definitely like to join your club. The car i have is a Lancer Fiore C12A. its got a 1300CC engine and a five speed gearbox with power mirrors and power steering. It looks a bit different when compared with other Fiores, thats one of the reasons why love this car so much. I have seen some videos regarding the Lancer fiore clubs in malaysia, and it would be great if we could do something like that here in SL. Keep me updated with your progress. Will post some pictures of my ride when i get some free time. Cheers and all the best
