Whoooo are you?

Well don't try Embark, as they're getting a lot of bad press these days (unless you look to see if it's undeserved). Funny how everyone's suggesting big dogs, when he clearly said in his first post he wants something smaller than a lab Have seen a couple of beagles here, but both of them were prone to ear infections so you should watch out. Best thing to do is go to one of those Kennel Club shows, and check out the breeds there. You can even talk to the owners and get a better idea of the smaller breeds. Obviously, dog's (like cars) should never be a rush purchase. I've mostly had labs all my life so can't really comment on other breeds, but I guess Daschunds are popular small dogs here, if you're just looking for company and not a guard dog (though they can be quite nippy!) There was a thread on this topic about a year back, do a search and see.

I for one am still a fan of not tinting the front windows, since tinted front windows in Sri Lanka seem to automatically breed "threewheel driver" mentality in to the driver.

As I said earlier, Bikers should stay out of everything but the left lane (where possible, and where not turning right) period. Most bikers don't drive that fast except in traffic jams, and tend to hog up the lanes just where you can't overtake. It's quite funny sometimes to see a biker with sarong flapping in the breeze and no bike jacket driving slowly in the middle of the road, and a hundred cars following behind him with no room to overtake. Biker is totally oblivious to what's going on behind him, although it would not be funny if you're actually driving behind him.

I am sure these problems are not unique to SL. I believe any other country that uses this system, the owner gets penalized (for ex. if you don't fill your transfer papers properly, similar to this "open papers" business in the USA, you are liable for any offenses committed by the new owner - it's a way of making sure the seller follows through with all the selling rules). The proof is in the footage, if they can't bring up the footage then the case is thrown out. Not sure about the issue with personal drivers, as I guess we have a much higher number of them than most countries. However, there's no reason for a chauffer to be above the law, so I guess it's up to the owner to make sure the driver follows the rules. I am sure most busses are not owned by the folk who drive them, but the owner will get penalized (and will in turn penalize his crew). Of course, this is ALL assuming that this even comes in to place, or whether it's just a bunch of loud noise that will never be followed through. I'll believe it when I see it - there are a lot more than the 108 camera points in the city where people break road rules.

You're clearly incapable of understanding simple english so I won't comment anymore. Please go back and read what I've written - at no point have I suggested it is a rule that L200's die after 100k km. I simply said there must be plenty that have done so, probably many more than the ones that are running at 200k.
-
A link would be nice?
-
Surely you don't consider the new Picanto in the same league as new Korean SUVs...and I bet there are just as many L200 engines that kicked the bucket before 100k km as well...I don't think there are many New Korean SUV's on the road that have remotely reached 200k km, not because they can't but because they haven't been around long enough. Under average SL running mileage I assume it would take at least 10 years or more of high mileage running to reach that amount.

Say you have a hearing problem and can only hear if your car is on if you have a loud muffler...
-
Try calling them and ask what the procedure is for what Pericles has said. Although, they may just die of shock since I doubt anyone has ever asked them such a question
-
Thanks, that sounds like the logical explanation!
-
I said I don't think the road rules mention anything about mufflers, at least as far as I know. The decision is probably arbitrary based on how bored the cops are and how loud they feel is "enough" to piss them off. Because as I type I can hear a bus exhaust and horn almost 800 meters away down my quiet road. Let's try to see them say that's not a hazard at close distance. If I got copped for such an issue, first thing I'd challenge them is what SPL (Sound Pressure Level) limits exist for cars in our rules, how are the cops measuring them (do they have SPL meters, or are they using their ears), at what distance is the meter being held (is the SPL limit defined at 1w/1m or what?), what is the decibel weighting (A-weighted, C-weighted), does the meter meet ANSI or IEC standards, how do they know it's calibrated, etc etc. Oh how I almost wish I had this issue just so I can try that out Same deal with the window tints (for those cops saying you can only have a "light" tint) or even speed guns for that matter.
-
Don't think the road rules explicitly mention this, one way or the other.

10,20, 30 mins wouldn't matter to me if I can just have only the oil change done rather than doing a "service" and ending up doing stuff that isn't even recommended in the service manual. Guess "oil change" only isn't something that is sold here...

I'm pretty sure this person hasn't come to buy a Korean car, as he has made it clear (by answering his own question) that the Mitsubishi Montero sport is the best SUV money can buy in that category, although nobody seems to agree with him yet...
-
Yep, I did learn about touching metal in the car before getting down and that fixed the problem (as did getting down barefoot), but it just kept happening year round, even though I would be wearing the same clothes in summer as I do here :/ Still can't find any explanation for that, although interestingly a friend from Jamaica had the exact same observation ("how come it never happens back home?") in a totally different car.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/t129114-positive_ground_why_.html Has it got anything to do with why I always get zapped with static shock in almost every vehicle I got in and out of in the USA, but that NEVER happens here?
-
Anyway, it's true, in the US there are awareness campaigns and also those dot matrix signs on the highways warning about seatbelts - but let's not forget the ulterior motive is exactly the same as it will be in SL - city government likes to rake in cash from fining people without belts (I remember the slogan in Texas used to be "seatbelts: click it or ticket"). To be honest, for once I can't see a problem with making money off something that should be common sense and saves lives in the process. And I find it hard to believe there are people out there who don't know what seatbelts are meant for - it would be scary if this is the case.
-
Well they made it compulsory a couple of years back too, until people found excuses that made them halt it. I'm sure some folks will try and find excuses this time as well. It's amazing how some people blame everything on the "system," when it's the people themselves that often are at fault for the problems. Hopefully this time the rule is here to stay.

New Sorento abandoned the ladder chassis, I believe the platform is shared with the Santa-Fe. It is pretty comfortable (way more comfortable than my gas guzzling N16) and I'm surprised by how quiet it is overall until you step on it. I guess "crossover" is the appropriate term for these, not SUV.

Tried to follow these rules this afternoon turning on to galle road from duplication (colpetty). Frikkin road crew have dug up half of both sides of galle road near juliana in the middle of the day with absolutely no alternative route or traffic control...nobody really wanted to give way to anybody else, whether they signalled or not. Needed a few well placed maneuvers and one-finger salutes to get past colpetty junction. Worst thing is with the opening of marine drive up to station road, people just toss their cars onto galle road without even looking. I don't think it's autolanka users who need to read this thread- it's every other moron out there!

If you're driving a threewheeler/moped/non-sports bike, please don't drive at 10kmph in the middle of two lanes, on the lane marker, or on the overtaking lane, especially when there are no vehicles in front of you. Driving a motorbike or threewheeler on the right hand lane on roads such as greenpath without a right turn in sight serves absolutely NO purpose other than to slow down everyone behind you. To add to the above two posts, the solid white line before the traffic light is for you to STOP before, not to cross and park on top of the pedestrian crossing in front during a red light!
-
Did you actually read a word I said or try looking for any reviews? Or are you just pulling these figures from your ***? I easily get 8.5-9.5kmph in the diesel doing city driving (would be happy to post a pic of my l/100km indicator if you so require). As for off-roading, like I said, it does fine "off the road," as good as any similar sized SUV or better. It is obviously not built for "off-roading" (assuming you even know what offroading is) although how many people who actually own a full size land cruiser or montero actually go offroading beats me. You don't need a damn offroader to drive in almost any part of SL, but seems like your mind is already made up Sorry to have wasted your time. PS- I don't know the resale value as the vehicle is fairly new to SL, and the new model has a long waitlist (I assume at least somebody thinks it's worth the wait!). However, I wouldn't worry about resale value unless you only plan to hold a car for a couple of years. Value 5 years down the line is very unpredictable in this country.

http://www.subaru.com/vehicles/forester/index.html Forgot to add the new Subaru Forester (another small SUV) that I haven't seen in SL yet, but maybe the OP can set the trend
