  1. Hi Shaks, What file system is your Hard disk formatted to ? NTFS or FAT32, this might not be your problem at all but there is a limit to how big a single file you can store in each file system and FAT32 has a lower threshold than NTFS though i cannot remember what the threshholds are, off the top of my head, Regards, The Don
  2. Hi Fuzzo, I am curious about the results too, if you don't mind could you drop me an email too at, [email protected] Regards, The Don
  3. Hi Guys, thats what I thought as well, about the price etc, a year back I was offered one in pretty good condition for 1.2 million, but by Kims response it seems even that is a bit high, As I said before thanks for the responses guys, its much appriciated, Regards, The Don
  4. Hi Guys, I was wondering if somebody could let me know the prices for these vehicles thesedays, obviously in good condition, I know there are about 4 models out there, of that generation The basic manthree model AC/PS non turbo The basic turbo model The full option turbo model The full option turbo intercooler model and short wheel base versions of each of the above, and also the flat and high roof models for the LWB versions so they obviously come in different flavours and sizes, which particular version do you think is the best for daily use and ease of maintenance and also value for money, what do they go for thesedays, is the one on the forum indicative of the usual price these things go for thesedays ? thanks in advance for all replies, The Don
  5. Hi Guant, Real pity you can't source a set of Dunlop SP's for your ride, I have some very fond memories of the set of SP's that used to exist in my car, and I am surprised they don't have your profile because my rims are 185/60 I think and I am sure they were sourced in SL, as they came with the car when I bought it (Sorry I am not sure of the exact size since I only actually drive the damn thing for around 3 weeks a year !!). When I got the car, the previous owned had replaced the front tyres with 2 new tyres of a brand called Federal. and the rear had 2 very worn out Dunlop SP Sports. Now a friend of mine rather ignorant of the fact that the rear tyres were extremely worn (and when I say worn I mean millimetres of tread left needed near immediate replacement) decided to take the car out for a spin and the stupid moron out of all his excitement decided to take a 90 degree turn at close to 100Kmph ........ and uptil the moment he actually took the turn I thought he was gonna break to slow down !!!. And I was shouting...... "yakooo no tread on the rear tyres !!! and I think he panicked a bit too ..... but by this time already half way through the turn and I was sure the car was going to over steer and us loose control....... But not even tyre squeal man ...... nothing ... rock solid, I felt embarrassed for even panicking he he. Needles to say I was quite impressed by those tyres. The Don
  6. Hi Guant, I myself am planning on replacing my whole tyre set in about a month since I have got new rims for my car, so I am very interested in knowing what you find in your tyre hunt, Have you considered the Dunlop SP Sport tyres, I think you get the jap version in SL, anybody else have any ideas about other semi performance tyres which are actually available in SL ? Its sad to hear the Kumho performance range is not available in SL for I see it popping up everywhere too, might have even been a bit more reasonably priced than some of the japanese tyres of the same range out there, pity, Regards, The Don
  7. Hi, Some, there is a list on the intel website of power supplies approved by intel for a particular line of processors, consult that list to see if the PSU you are planning on buying is in it Regards, The Don
  8. Guys, there is something that most of you guys don't know, I am sure all of you are familiar with the brand called mercury, quite a popular case in SL, What most people don't know is some of these mercury's came with DEER branded power supplies, not mercury or kobian and the only way you could say this is by looking at the PSU model which starts with DR not KB, it was DR300 or 350 or something, The DEER power supply is an intel approved power supply, which as the kobian / mercury ones are not, and at that time apart from the AOPEN ones there were no other intel approved power supplies to my knowledge. but this is 2002 i am sure things have moved on since then, The Don
  9. Ha ha, I guess everybodys talking about the "Seeni Boley" Ara was trying to turn that one in to a road going car about 15 months back ha ha, was even saying he might give it to his wife ... And dims I think that intercooler wasn't always in the front, he had to do some mods to get it in the front or something, though I am quite envious of you for getting a ride in it ........ seriously, Its a real pity really I guess that Subaru's dont seem to do as well as they used to in races, cos they certainly beat the hell out of Evo's for character, I guess people who know Ara would kind of always remember him in his Rex in Caltex colours (sorry I am a bit nostalgic now he he he) Do post some pics when you have them Dims though I wonder why after spending so much on a paint job to pink has he gone for a more conservative blue ..
  10. Hi Bhara, you know I think that is a UK reg too, the last half of 2003 infact (a 53 reg) hmm.... interesting wonder what it was doing in Malibu
  11. Hi, There is no doubt that Fuzzo is the resident expert in all matters PC hardware especially when it comes to providing buying tips. I just thought I would add a thing or two because a few moons back, just out of school and nothing else to do apart from about 2-3 hours of lectures a day I used to go help a friend of mine in Unity Plaza who used to have a shop so I've had some insight into how the system integrator business in SL works, These are my personal experiences, and things might have changed since a bit of time has passed. Sri Lanka has this problem of being hot and humid, and it makes a hell of a lot of difference to the life of the HDD under what circumstances it is used, such as if you have air conditioning. I think heat is the primary factor for the high level of problems with bad sectors we used to have with seagate desktop drives thosedays, because I have seen seagate drives perform brilliantly in offices etc. with airconditioning. The beauty of the seagates they often fail in stages, such as they will start to develop bad sectors and then those sectors will spread, thus you can pick out when the drive is starting to fail and do a back up and save most of your data. With Western dirigtal drives its the electronics which go most of the time, where the boards fail and the HDD does not get detected by the Bios. With IBM drives you have all sorts of problems some being board faliures and I have seen the bearings cease on a few ones as well. They also run a bit hot like Seagates. Quantums and Maxtors seem to be the disks that have the least problems with the development of bad sectors thus their problems are predominantly with their boards. I must say though compared to the number of maxtors we used to sell compared to every other brand the number of faliures we got were very few, and that says a lot I guess. Maxtor is probably not the best hard drive in the world, that requires serious debate, but it seems to work best under our climate conditions without any special enviromental conditioning. Also I do think most hard drive faliures are avoidable. Often they are down to overheating due to lack of ventilation inside the case and unstable power supplies and power problems. I have only lost 2 hard disks up to now and one a Quantum (now Maxtor) because of a power supply error, and the second because the Samsung HDD I was using which I brought down from Europe obviously wasn't suited to our climate conditions and it was running a bit hot from the begining (and SMART was reporting this, I ignored it) very quiet drive so lots of insulation, and after few days of 24/7 operation one platter on the HDD failed. Both problems were not down to manufacturer defects, so if your HDD fails so frequently it is a good idea to check out your PSU, and the temperature inside the case and maybe give it a bit more ventilation. Also note that dust combined with moisture can cause problems to electrical components inside the computer so keeping it dust free and clean might help a bit too, And Pericles I think the PATA (parralel ATA) HDD with the highest MTBF available is the Maxtor Maxline series aimed at the budget server market. Comes with a 5 year Warranty and the only PATA drive in the mactor range to be rated for 24/7 Operation. Regards, The Don
  12. Pericles, is the SL500 listed a SL500 AMG ?
  13. Sadly I think you may be right, yeps all the vacant books thanks to the Tsunami vehicles must be providing people with loads of opportunities for forgeries cos as long as the book is of the same model of car then it is extremely difficult to differentiate the 2 unless there was an insuarance claim on the first and and it is listed as written off, I remember the scandal before was the loophole in import regulations over "body permits" where bodies were imported supposedly to replace damaged or corroded bodies in existing vehicles, so these people were spending hours at police auctions etc to purchase unservicable vehicles just so that they can use the resulting body permit to smuggle a half cut into the country
  14. Hi Fuzzo, I think the RMV systems are completely computerised and thus it is pretty difficult to have legit documents for cut but or other stolen type vehicles. I was talking to some specialists who makes a living out of cut but and while I was there 2 Troopers and a Land Cruiser was being "assembled" to be driven away. And if anybody is curious, NO I did not purchase such a vehicle or had any plans in doing so (though I must say it was quite tempting) I was simply visiting a friend who decided to show me arround. Thanks to the computerisation no new log books or registration entries can be made for a fake vehicle. all they can do is change an existing entry by bribing somebody inside. This means you either end up with an older than usual number for a vehicle, or the chassy number or the engine number on the log book not properly matching that particular model and make of vehicle. So I asume there is no one check you can do to ensure that the vehicle is completely legit but a few checks should be able to put your mind at rest. Check with the RMV if the log book is legal and they have a record for it. Check the engine number and the chassy number to see if they match with make and model, for example I think in mistubishi's the chassy number starts with the model number, like in my car it starts with CA3A and then a number so should be easy enough to figure out. Check if the number assigned to the vehicle matches the asumed registration date for the vehicle. for example it is very unlikely for a 1998 model pajero to have a number which was issued in 1993. Also you can ask the seller to produce vehicle revenue certificates for the previous years that the vehicle has been owned. I think by following the above steps more often than not you should be able to spot the buds and forgeries. The price of forgeries and cut buds have gone up considerably because of new security procedures introduced by customs and the RMV, thus its not really as worthwhile anymore going through all the trouble to be involved in it, Just a note of caution also, there are very few flat roofed pajero's of the manthree model legally imported into SL, and quite a few of the ones being driven arround are buds etc, thus be very careful when purchasing one, I hope this info helps, The Don
  15. ha ha ha ha
  16. There was a time you could get a AE110 for about 9K the early versions do you guys think Tyrell can get a 1300 version atleast for that price thesedays, I remember finding a AE111 once for 700K but it wasn't in very good condition, haven't been regularly in the country for the last 2 years so i am talking with my experience when I went arround to get my dad a economical ride, and ended up buying something i always wanted to get, an old Mirage
  17. this sounds so typical though, ha ha ha, our dudes swearing away while others are trying to make a serious video, you have no idea how many home video's I've made to send to my parents but could not since people in the background are swearing away........... I think unknown is correct, you can do it in premierre because it provides you the video and the audio stream as separate, but its not the easiest piece of software to learn and work with when you are in a hurry Good luck Shaks, you will need it I hope you got your laptop sorted out I can think of a way you can do it without forwarding, can let you know if you want to go down that route, though I prefer to format and do it from scrap .... cos doing it that way you can never get rid of everything and deltree doesnt always work .... since modern day windows doesn run native dos.
  18. I haven't tried any of these cards but I read the review on Custom PC which highly reccomended the Audigy X FI, which I think is the latest and the best card in the market today, I think it kind of comes down to an issue of budget, cos the higher you go the better it sounds but is it worth it ? From my experience all Creative Labs Live and Audigy cards produce excellent sound, though the higher spec ones have more options, so get the cheapest one that satisfies your neccesities cos spending more is a waste of money in my mind since new stuff come into the market all the time and whatever sound card you buy it would be old technology in less than a year, thats my 2 cents worth, The Don

  20. Hi Shaks, Ironically I have one of those connectors which help you to plug a laptop HDD into a normal PC, but I am not in the country, I do remember Datamaster selling that kind of stuff a few years back, so maybe if you get some free time you can pop in and ask, But the simplest solution might be just to source a switched network cable, plug one end to your laptop the other to a pc with some space, run the network set up wizard in both PC's, share the hard disk of your laptop, access it from the desktop and copy the files you want over, I am sure there are better experts in the forum who can advise you better though
  21. He he I own a Mitsubishi though a slightly old one
