  1. Thanks for the post. Will it get much difference on 1300cc vs 1500cc? Anyway as chan5 mentioned, 1.3 is under-powered. Anyway pls post of you got any info about the car.. Thanks.
  2. Thanks to all, I think its the Trad Sunny or Toyota Corona which will be better to go for. But I am not aware of what would be better among these two. So Could anyone has experience on any of those two post something regarding " 1. Budget is less than 1 Million (6-7 would be better because then I will have some extra to use for the modifications & repairs) 2. Must have AC & PS 3. Travel long distance 4. must be economical 4. Must be easy to drive 6. Less trouble and high availability of spare parts is a must since It may need some repairs... 7. Less maintenance cost " Thanks.
  3. Thanks all for sharing the knowledge and Mr. Sylvi for the charger which help me maintaining the current without any matter now. . The problem is solved with the maintainer. However I found this article [ http://homepages.ihu...anence_Tips.pdf] which is having several ways of reconditioning an older battery. Although I have not tried it, though that sharing is worth. Anyway I will try this method on my older batteries. "Magnesium Sulphate (Epsom Salts) - Can be bought at either the chemist or supermarket. Add a slightly heaped teaspoonful into each cell. Fully charge it with a slow charge, then discharge it (use a car headlight), then add another slightly heaped teaspoonful to each cell. It will take about a month for the Epsom Salts to dissolve the sulphation and increase the battery's capacity to hold a charge." If anyone has any idea, kindly post. Thanks.
  4. Its the drivers' side battery and not the one in the passengers side. Good idea is to switch the batteries from time to time to avoid the failures which then both will die mostly around the same time. Thanks.
  5. Thanks to Harsha,Sylvi and crosswind. I do clean the oxide in the terminals as well check weather they are tight enough.
  6. Hello, First of all need to thank everyone for sharing knowledge among us. I have a something to get clarified with the help of you all. I bought 2 exide batteries for my 4DR5 Jeep 2 years ago and both are 90Amp ones. The alternator provide 13-14V when charging and according what I knew and tested by an electrician there is no charging issue with the electrical system and I got the whole wiring system repaired by a good electrician sometime back. I check the water level once a week of both batteries and get them tested by an electrician at least once in a 3-4 months. But suddenly one battery stopped charging and had to throw away as I am having a bad experience with Exide batteries. I went to meet a supplier of all kind of batteries and got some advises from them too which they say they get more returns of exide batteries and having some issues. I do not want to criticize any brand but after going through the posts published by many experts I decided to change the brand to Global maintenance free batteries. And also thanks to Sylvi and all, I think its a good idea to use a battery maintainer for keep the batteries fully charged. I highly appreciate for your explanations about battery maintainers and chargers (I'm aware that maintainer is for maintaining a charged battery and a charger for charging but what would be the best for me?) based on the local market. Thank so much in advance.
  7. Thanks Schiffer. I searched and it is true. So have you had any experience of using one of these? Anything to advice? Thanks.
  8. Thanks for the reply. Would you reply why you have mentioned "try a full light model with full option and 1.5 engine"? Does full light means the back lights isn't it? And What difference will those make? thanks.
  9. Thanks Crosswind. You have listed many and many thanks for that. Would you kindly reply in what way you have ordered it? I mean based on price? based on functionality or any other? Thanks so much for the response.
  10. Hello friends, I need a help choosing a car and I normally have less knowledge about cars which I have a 4DR5 at the moment. I would thankful if you can post something for this post. My requirement as below, 1. Budget is less than 1 Million (6-7 would be better because then I will have some extra to use for the modifications & repairs) 2. Must have AC & PS 3. Travel long distance - must be economical 4. Must be easy to drive 5. I think patrol one will be better than diesel but please advice... 6. Less trouble and high availability of spare parts is a must since It may need some repairs... 7. Less maintenance cost Thanks to Saturn I read this post and is very helpful. What I really want is to buy one without going for a lease or so. and something like this will make me learn lots of stuff about repairing and maintenance too. Thanks so much in advance and appreciate your reply on this.
  11. Hi Friends, Recently one of headlight in my jeep (4DR5) stopped working and replaced by a chinese one that is cheap but Ok for now (I coundn't find any other than the chinese one). But I want to know how can I find the original ones or at least closer to original ones and what are those brands. The chinese version seal beam is 100W (High Beam) / 75W (Low Beam). If anyone have any idea, please post it. Thanks a lot in advance.
  12. Thanks harshan, Would you suggest what would I do to fix it? Any idea? No need to look in the gear box then. (as baas said). Thanks.
  13. Thanks for your reply. But when there is a load, (such as many people on board) the sound is less. If it is the wheel bearings, it doesn't get changed based on the weight it gets; isn't it? Anyway after re-shaping of the leaf-spring, the height of the jeep went up a little bit like few inches. So wouldn't that be the issue? (the angle of the drive shaft also got changed). Thanks again.
  14. Hello friends, Recently I reshaped the leaf-spring of my jeep (Mitsubishi - 4DR5 J44) and now I hear a hum noise when I drive. The sound comes when the speed is over 40KmPH and It is a sound that comes as a wave like "increasing in a second and decreasing in next second and then again increasing...decreasing... ". This was there even before reshaping leaf-spring but after reshaping its more now. Also there is a play in the deferential (may be 3/4 inch) as well. When I engage the 4WD that hum sound comes little more even on any level of speed. The engine is 4DR51. Bass said, Have to check the gear box razors and its not much to think about and not going to brake anything. But the noise is not nice when driving. So Any of you have anything about this issue please post a reply. Highly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
  15. Hello Sylvi, Thank you very much for the reply. Actually When I bought the jeep I got a unit that can fit under the meter which I checked recently and the blower is working fine. However the previous owner had removed it from the jeep and has not maintained the AC unit well. The compressor with it was no use and therefore I had to buy a reconditioned 24V compressor recently. I think I can use the unit that comes under the meter (that I have now) and switch which comes with it for the front. I have to buy a hood type to fix for the rear seat passengers which I think of buying a reconditioned one [cost effective] from delkanda though I don't know exactly where to look for. (Have to walk here and there... if you know kindly post.) As I know, Parallel flow condensers are the better ones to use which is more efficient (correct me if I am wrong pls) and have no idea about buying hood type evaporator unit (which brand? which type?). Also Is it possible to join two evaporators and provide as a single line to the compressor if it can handle it? (Basically hood type won't be using as much as the the under the meter one is using). I think its better to buy a brand new dual AC condenser. I think this gentleman [Mr. Rohan Perera. Contact number 2303910. Mobile: 0777 393608. at C.R.P. Engineering (Pvt) Ltd] is still working as Sylvi has posted this valuable contact information and will be able to do a great job. Its been always exiting with the knowledge I can gain by understanding the concepts of those equipment and I highly appreciate the members of this forum for sharing their experience and knowledge with us like Sylvi. Its really kind of them and helpful.
  16. Thanks Sylvi, Happy to know that the alternator can provide the sufficient amperage. I have a 24V compressor which I think can be used. Haven't bought any other equipments yet. I still am not aware what would be the best which is to find a set of dual AC unit that comes in 24V [reconditioned] or buy each and every equipment separately (If the compressor I have is in good condition and can use for dual AC system, I hope it would be ok to use it.). Could you give me a suggestion? Also kindly mention which vehicles AC units are better and can be used for 4DR5 jeep.. Thanks a lot.
  17. Hi Sylvi, Thanks so much for the reply. Here is the details, The amperage of the alternator is 25. (I don't know whether it is the original 4DR5 alternator) It is a 24V DC System. It has a brake vacuum exhaust-er unit fixed to the alternator back side and oil pipes attached. I highly appreciate the help that you are able to do for me and I will surely visit. Kindly PM me where your workshop is or any other contact details that I can contact you. Again thanks a lot for sharing your valuable knowledge with all of us.
  18. Thanks mahesh, I went through the above post. It explains that the 4DR5 Engine is capable of handling that kind of power requirement but not the electrical stuff. So what would you think? Is the original alternator enough to power the batteries as it consumes more power to AC, Lights and other items when all of them are in operation like driving at night with AC on. ?
  19. Hello everyone... I searched the forum about fixing AC to a 4DR5 J44 Jeep & could find many posts but I could not find any information regarding the electrical matters coming with the AC unit. If I fix a dual AC unit to my jeep, won't it be a problem if I switch on the AC with headlights on? Because as far as I can understand, the batteries will be charging from the alternator and the AC + Headlights [and all] will use more power than the speed of charging both batteries. Please correct me if I am wrong. If it's so, Do I have to replace the alternator as well if I fix dual AC to the jeep? I have no idea about this matter and I really appreciate if anyone who knows anything can post a reply on this matter.. Thanks...
  20. Hi guys..., Wish you all a very happy 2012 .. I could get the brake problem fixed with all of your suggestions and all help. I must thank you all about that. (And also Iroshana who emailed me and helped me understand most mechanical stuff.. ) I couldn't find a same size booster that comes with a 1 inch pump anywhere (basically delkanda and panchikawatte). [i am posting these facts to be helpful for someone who just like me one day ] What I experienced when I was looking for a booster is that, There are basically 2 types of boosters (correct me if I am wrong pls) 1. Boosters that get sealed from the front side without the master pump attached to it 2. Boosters that get sealed from the front side only when the master pump is attached to it. So the original 4DR5 booster is a type that get sealed without the pump as well and almost all the booster I could find are falling in to second category. Therefore I had to find a booster + master pump to fix the problem. Another issue that I could find the same size booster that matches to the 4DR5 original booster size but they got smaller size pumps like 3/4 or 7/8 or 13/16 which is not compatible with the original 4DR5 master pump size (15/16) However the problem was solved by re-locating the clutch pump and then attaching the new booster + master pump (1 inch) and now as Janith said, little bit more boost is a good experience. There is a small issue that I have to overcome which is, the tank (correct me with the correct name of the equipment if you know pls) that supports the booster (its in between the alternator and the booster) to is not enough to support to the booster when the engine is idle which cause the brake pedal to be a bit hard to push. So I think it would be Ok if I put a new tank which contain valves that matches to the current booster that can help to solve that matter. So again I must thank you all and hope you would reply as you all were before .. Thanks again.
  21. Hi Don, Thanks for posting it. Yes I could find the blog before and "Shanaka" who owned it has done some excellent work there. Seems like the writing has stopped. Again thanks for the post.
  22. Hi Don, Its useful that " I've seen body permit versions of it in Kurunagala" and I would remember that. May be there It would be able to find some spare parts. I called "Jayasiri Motors" - Mawanella that is kind of a big place that import reconditioned Japanese spare parts and they even haven't got any. So will see what would be the better way of doing it. Thanks.
  23. Thanks Janith, Its really helpful that you have mentioned the type of the booster and the pump you are using now. Since its kind of useless to search in panchikawatta, I will go to delkanda instead. Will see and let you know. Thanks again.
  24. Thanks Don, I will find something similar and compatible with the power that it had with the original one. Anyway I surely will post what I would do for that because this problem comes for may be almost all the old vehicles. not only the 4DR5.
  25. Hi Don, I appreciate your response. And what you said is absolutely correct. But the problem is that I have searched for a 4DR5 original booster sometimes and also could find several but none of those in good condition which again would be problematic sometime later. So I think I will have to search more or if not have to buy both booster and the master pump that matches to the placement of the vehicle and fix it. So this weekend, I will waste my time on that though I don't know exactly what type of vehicle's booster and pump matches to the 4DR5 jeep right after its original. I had a chat with Nishan and he now experiences some better brakes with the newly fitted booster + master pump. I really thankful if someone suggest which boosters + master pumps suit to the 4DR5 to replace its original. Again thanks Don.
