One of my other options for a car is the Nissan Bluebird 1999-2002 model. I think thats the QU14 model. Does anyone have any experience with this type of car. Hows the petrol consumption, spare parts availability and price. Are spares expensive for this model and also hows the re-sale value. What might be the price of one of these cars now. Any help would be appreciated.

Just wanted to know everyones ideas on why some of the korean cars in srilanka like the Hyundai Sonata 2000-2002 models including the H-matic ones Hyundai Matrix and also the Hyundai Elantra 2000-2002 models and the Kia Optima 2001-2002 models are going at lower prices. Is it due to their bad performance and higher spare parts prices or anyother reasons. What are your opinions on these models. Iam not sure why they are making the southern expressway a toll highway. Doesnt it take away the whole reason for having an express way in the first place. People will still use the old road and there will be traffic jams as iam sure people using the expressway everyday wont like to pay to use it. I think the government should re-think this.

Didnt know that the southern expressway was a toll highway. It will be interesting to see how they will implement the charges for the distance travelled. Also wonder what would the ristrictions be, will they allow private busses on the express way as well. Any news of the Katunayake expressway.

Electro Mobile to produce solar car For the first time in Sri Lanka, Electro Mobile (Pvt) Ltd, is hoping to produce a solar charging electric car which can travel 275 Kms in one charge. The estimated cost of this solar charging electric full option car would be around Rs. 1.7 million and this model would be similar to the popular Suzuki Swift car. It is estimated that the cost of one charge would be less than Rs. 100, which makes a kilometre less than 36 cents. Electro Mobile (Pvt.) Ltd, the largest electric automobile manufacturer in Sri Lanka has also taken the initiative for the first time to introduce a solar charging electric motor-cycle. “This would be introduced next month and the new product is already being showcased at the Deyata Kirula exhibition, which concludes on Sunday at the BMICH,” Sales Manager, Electro Mobile (Pvt) Ltd Vishwa Waidyasekara said. India is also manufacturing a solar-powered car. However, this is a two-door model that limits the capacity. In addition the car has to be charged every 100-kilometres, which also limits its distance. Upali Wijewardene assembled Upali Fiat cars in Sri Lanka in the early 1980’s. At present Dr. Lawrence Perera manufactures cars under the Micro brand. He also assembles Sanyong vehicles manufactured in Korea for the local market. “Currently we are producing six models of motor-cycles such as CL 350, SW 500, CMB 500 and CE 90 which are now available islandwide,” “We are manufacturing 60 per cent of the products in our factory and 40 per cent of the products are assembled with spare parts imported from China.” “Our main target is to provide motor-cycles at a low price and with the introduction of the solar cycles people would not have any operation costs as well,” he said. “At present Electro Mobile (Pvt) Ltd., are exporting products to Germany and we are hoping to expand our business to the Italian motor market as well in the near future”, he said. Electro Mobile (Pvt) Ltd is one of the leaders in the automobile industry in Sri Lanka. The factory was set up in 2003. “We also maintain after sales service as well as a 24-hour customer care call service not only for our own customers but also for any person who use motor-cycle,” he said.

Whats the going price for a Honda City 2000-2002 model. Hows the performance of these cars and do they have a good resale value. Are the Honda City cars we have on SL roads imported from India. Any ownerns of this model please do advice.

Good to hear that another company will be assembling cars in SL. Any body has any idea on what models they will be making or any links to any websites. I guess with the current ecconomic situation the big players like Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi will be thinking twice on opening plants in other countrys. I guess we must be happy that atleast the chinese are willing to set up shop in SL. Hopefully the company will start designing their own models soon different from the chinese ones.

The Sonata 2000 model may go for less than Rs 1M. But it all depends on the previous owner. How are the Sonata 2000-2001 models, do they do well on performance.

Electromobiles (Pvt) Ltd will manufacture solar powered electronic cars in Sri Lanka from next year. Speaking to Daily News Business CEO/ Managing Director of Electromobiles (Pvt) Ltd Gihan Wijethunga said they expect to commence commercial production of the car in May next year. The company will invest Rs. 30 million for the project and the project will provide around 600 direct and indirect job opportunities. This will be a passenger car with a solar powered panel fixed on top of the car and this solar panel will generate power to the car. This electronic car needs to be charged six to eight hours per day. It will cost only Rs. 20 to Rs. 25 per kilometre. A fully charged car could run 120 kms and solar panels will generate additional energy on the way during sunny weather where it enables the car to run an additional 30 kms without any cost. In average, a car runs less than 50 miles per day and this is an ideal passenger car for people who focus on the environmental impact and fuel cost. We wanted to position this as leisure drive car. We will be importing some components of the car from China and over 30 per cent value addition will be done in Sri Lanka. Our Chinese partners will provide technical know-how and other technical assistance for the project. We are planing to have our plant in Piliyandala and initially the plant will manufacture eight cars per month , Wijethunga said. In the future when volumes increase, the company expects to increase value addition and manufacture most of the components in Sri Lanka. However there is a good response from customers even before the car has been introduced to the market. Thirty customers have already placed orders with us , he said. After establishing in the local market company they hope to enter into export markets with Bangladesh and Cambodia being initially earmarked. Electromobiles also planing to introduce solar power conversion facility for all the vehicles in near future. At the moment, they have already introduced solar power motor bikes to the market and there are over 2500 solar powered electric bikes running on Sri Lankan roads , he said. There is a 25 per cent duty concession for eco-friendly vehicle imports to the country. However it is important to evaluate the quality of these vehicles. The Government should focus on providing duty concessions for eco-friendly vehicle manufactures too. Facilitating these type of industries could save foreign exchange for the country , he said. http://www.electromobiles.lk http://www.electromobiles.lk/profileelectromobiles.pdf source : LNP.com
