Hi Guys, I have seen a couple of Ford Mondeos to be sold in Sri Lanka and kind of interested. That's a very comfortable car as far as I know. But several people tolda me that that spare parts are not available in Sri Lanka and even if they are available the would be very expensive. For example a set of brake pads would cost like 50K. Is that true ? Are there any reasonable people dealing with Ford Mondeo parts other than agents ? Are there any qualified repair centre like Milroy for BMW, Ruwan for VW/Audi ? Please share your knowledge

Hi All. Last poya day I was driving towards Galle from Colombo to attend a funeral. I was not in a hurry so I drove at an average speed. Right after the Kaluwamodara bridge near Aluthgama I was stopped by 3 police officers. They told me that I have 'crossed the white line'. At that point, the road has 2 lanes per each direction and there is no need to cross the white line even if you overtake. At this time I was not even overtaking any vehicle. I tried to explain it to the cops but they weren't listening. They ended up giving me a ticket for ' wrong overtaking'. I got the impression that they were trying to obtain some quick bucks as one of them suggested that I pay the fine on the spot so I do not have to come all the way from Colombo the other day !. I saw some 3 wheelers stopped by them handing some money. The saddest part of the story is that the traffic OIC of the police station also was there. Can we do anything about this kind of harassment by the corrupted police officers ?

There was not a specific 'repair' for this. I just bought brand new links (all 4) and got it replaced by a ex-carmart guy. I remember getting the gear relay shaft also replaced by the same guy about 18 months ago. Even this time it was just replacing the broken link. Could you please advice me on how to fix it, as I am scared to do a long trip on this car

Hi, Thanks for both replies. How did you get it repaired when it broke the first time ? I have replaced all 4 links with brand new ones. Did two new links break or the old one and then the one you replaced it with? Old one + a new one I have put. Now I am running on the second new one.

Hi Guys,I need your valuable advice here. My car is a VW - Bora and has a link based gear changing system. Now It starts breaking those links at regular intervals. The link in the same position broke twice last 3 days giving me really bad time. I have shown it to 2 people and what they say it that nothing wrong in the car and the it was just a defective link(s) I have put. I doubt it here since it happened twice within 3 days. When I am changing gears I feel a bit hard on putting on to 1,3 and R. Could this have something to do with it ? Is it possible to change this link based system ? Your valuable advice is much appreciated.

Hi Guys, I noticed the petrol version called 'Extra Premium Petrol ' at a Lanka IOC filling centre. They were priced @ 119/= per litre. Does anybody has experience with this ? Is it worth the additional cost ?

Yes. That's what I said. This guy seems to be the most sought after VW guy in colombo and always engaged in some kind of work, hence the reason to get him down sometimes

My car is VW Bora -2002 B/N. I have 2 questions and hope some experts here would help me. 1. I am getting a mild knocking sound when I drive on rough roads. One guy told me it is due to the broken lower arm bushes and stabilizer bar bushes. Could that be true ? Can any body recommend a place to get it repaired ? 2. I was always doing the services at the agent and they are using Mobile fully synthetic 5W-50. The same guy told me that we do not get any benifit here by using the fully synthetic oils. He says instead it is better to use a normal oil and do the services at say every 4000 -5000 kms. Is that true ? Thanks in advance for your valuable responses.

T Belt + Adjuster Those are the only parts to be replaced. The whole kit was less than 30 K , (If I remember correct)

Hi, I have VW Bora and I am using that for more than a year. I did not have major problems in maintenance. I replace the T'Belt but cost me less than 20K. I do not think there is a big difference in a PASSAT. There are quite a few places where you can get the spares for a reasonable price.

About 18 months ago I got the copper top done for something around 10K. It was a guy from Arawwala, Pannipitiya. PM me if you need the details

Hi, I am having a Volkswagen Bora 2002 model. I need to get the A/C serviced and I believe that it has never been done for this car since the purchase. The agents are too expensive for me. Could you recommend the good place to get it done at a reasonable price ?
