Mate I have not driven but have been in the Toyota and the Mazda. The Mazda specially is not hard (not soft like a premio either). You should try one of the sline Audi’s or rs grade Honda’s. I have seen the type r civic whole body go up and Down on small uneven surfaces on these roads. On Colombo roads , cars with sports suspension can be quite uncomfortable. That is if your the type of person who doesn’t mind up and down jerks most of the time.

There are no mistake on the figures I presented on the axio. First time I’m hearing repairs costs and maintainable will be the same for both euros and the Japanese lol. Mate service intervals are one thing and it won’t be the same in the long run. Don’t you think people don’t like euros ? A service at one of these euro agents will cost a rough sum ~ 25-30k. Say you run 10k with that service. Two services cost 50k. Does the Toyota cost the same ? Can an you please provide some evidence that a Toyota will cost as much as a good euro to maintain ? I pay you the compliment of knowing euros are much more complex cars ? You do know that their suspension components, steering gear etc are designed driver oriented thus having a lot more components to do the same thing ? All those intelligent computers working all the time ? The Japanese are still much more simpler with their rack and penion steering , without double wishbone suspension etc etc. due to their simple nature the parts are also simple resulting in economical parts. Now labor. Do you know how hard it is to work on a euro ? Sometimes getting to work on something requires complete dismantle of another area. More time , more cost on labor. Also labor won’t be cheap as the experties required to work on these cars are different. One of my uncles had a 523i and had a premature radiator failure. It costed 85k plus at the agents to fix. Also I remember in that car you can go into the menu, see the health of each spark plug. While these systems in euros are genuinely brilliant , imagine how much money one will have to put to fix these if they go wrong ? Cars like this when they age, after 5 years, if your not lucky , they can become money pits. Do you really think the latest Japanese cars have even has the slight complexity of a new euro ? No. In this thread we are taking of a old gen premio which has systems like a hand calculator. You still say repairs are going to the same. Oh and at the agents. There are no myths , it’s facts. I’m not saying all , majority of the Japanese cars are much easier on maintainance than euros such as Audi’s and BMWs and whatnot . I once remember I had a S60 , to replace one front shock at a 3rd party workshop costed me ~24k (part only) cause if the complex design of the shock. As I remember it had the spring and shock together. If you take something similar of that era like a Mark II do you think it will cost 24k to replace one shock ? iRage while I respect your immense knowledge and experience on vehicles if will be good to have even a little bit of empathy.

S mode is not actually “sports” it raises the CVT trannies gear ratios to a higher ratio so that throttle response would be better. In s mode a slight press on the accelerator will raise the rpm a lot as @hrm said hence providing better acceleration. Useful in hilly areas or to have a little bit of fun.

The Audi is sporty true especially with the true sline (Firm/Hard suspension) models. At the same time on these Colombo bumpy roads it can be quite uncomfortable, the massive wheels adds to this as well, this is where models with adaptive dampers help. Same goes for Japanese cars with sports suspension and big wheels, the GP4 i had was really uncomfortable on bad roads, The GP1 on the other hand has much better ride quality on bad roads. Extreme cases of sport suspension as you know will be cars like the WRX which has “terrible” ride quality on bad roads I beg to differ. One of my friends has a Axio maintained by Toyxxx Lanxx from day 1 and the total cost for service including the following, Genuine Toyota oil Genuine Toyota oil Filter Genuine Toyota Air filter and the rest of the service including checking the health of the hybrid battery etc costs just LKR 13,000. Are you going to say that if you service say a A3,Q2 or A4 whatever it is at Senxx you can get away with anything remotely similar to that amount ?? Servicing at a 3rd party place such as idexx motors will cost more than that (The full synthetic oil they recommend for these cars can cost as much as a full service at TL, albeit being able to run ~7500km intervals). You really want to start talking about repairs ? You people really don't get why Japanese cars dominate the market over here. People in this forum may hate it but that’s the truth anyway I do not wish to fire ? a flame on this thread too

Yes but instead of being sarcastic to the OP what’s wrong with giving him a comparison ? What I’m trying to point out is that for example the OP is on the look out for a Premio. He suddenly sees a more attractive Audi A3 for the same sort of price. Doesn’t have knowledge to decide so comes to a forum. Instead of helping him people here are telling him it’s not a fair comparison while being sarcastic about it. People who don’t want to comment can be quiet. People who would want to contribute to his request can. Simple. At the same time , premio haters can also put their 2 cents into the mix ?
-
Err, What's your point ? OP didn't ask for a apple to apple comparison.
-
Why should one jump the gun ? There is nothing wrong with doing a comparison. Btw the econobox your talking abut is being used by quite a lot of Srilankans. It has proved to be very reliable and economical. The Audi has its own merits. If he buys a A3 or Premio for “his own” reasons and “his own money” there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
-
Not really , today euro cars are much more affordable here due to various reasons like tax and engine size. Someone who was using Japanese cars for a longtime would love to jump at a euro especially when they can be had for the same sort of price as a Japanese car. This was not possible sometime ago, good euros were always considerably more expensive. I think why OP is comparing the two are quite fare.

What are the best fuel efficient Hybrids in Sri Lankan Market
TheFlyingFox replied to Hasindu Gajanayake's question in General
Besides the Wagon R and GP1 more realistic figures for the GP5 and Aqua would be 14 and 15 for the latter. I had a GP5 and quite a lot of people who owns them claims at best gets 14 in Colombo. Aqua is a little bit better. One cannot really expect even a hybrid to perform well in this traffic. Outstation is where the Toyota hybrids really shine 20+ most of the time and the Honda's like GP5 ~20ish, GP1s Insights 17ish. -
If your not worried about fuel consumption, resale value and don’t need the space the premio offers , go for it ! The 1.0T will give you the same sort of performance off the line with your foot on the floor as the premio but where is shines is good power at low rpm levels. You will most certainly enjoy the near immediate power it has over the premio in short bursts. Don’t worry about maintaining your buying a new car. Plus Idexx motors will be happy to service it for you as the agents won’t take 3rd party cars into their workshop. If you like the sline variants which gives you big Alloys make sure the car has electronic dampers as with those alloys, sline firm suspension and Srilankan roads will give you a bumpy ride and ruin the suspension faster (different story on the highway though). The standard variant is very comfortable on these roads, the car handles very nicely too ! Long teems effects ? Most of these cars comes from UK and are climatized for that climate. Don’t know how they will fare over here with the harsh climate. If you are considering the Premio, it is a very decent mid sized family car which will provide more space , Toyota reliability ,practicality , good resale value, looks plain compared to the Audi, lower maintenance costs. You will not have more than half the features the Audi has , you will not enjoy driving it (it’s not bad, it just doesn’t excite you ).

Honda fit gp1\ aqua Vs Toyota vits 2015 unregistered\used IST
TheFlyingFox replied to Toyot's question in Car Buying Information
The GP1 is a very practical fun car to drive. Having owned a GP4 which has the same practicality I can say for what you pay these cars give you a lot of value. Most models have all the modern features, like Cruise, climate control , plenty of storage compartments, auto headlights, rear seats which gives you a lot of ways to arrange (Honda Magic Seats) , Decent pickup and economy etc. Only drawback is the Hybrid battery at this age. The aqua is a highly fuel efficient car but at the same time it takes away the joy of driving a car. The powertrain is very reliable, its quiet ,comfortable. This will also have a negative point having a Hybrid battery and having below average ground clearance. The Vitz is smaller than the other two, a LOT slower, Doesn't have even half of the features the Honda has. On the positive side, you can get one unregistered which will give you worry free ownership for a very long time, it gets above average fuel economy for a non-hybrid car, Its a nice small car for a small family. Very good resale value cause it wont have issues which a hybrid car will have in the long run. Other members can speak for the IST -
Your going to do a downgrade. You will lose a lot of things like Cruise control, climate control (depending on the model), those brilliant magic seats, Interior space, very good beams, Fuel economy, the Vitz will be a LOT slower than the Fit, Driving pleasure, your going to buy the Vitz unregistered and when you register , the price will go down further. On the positive note of getting a Vitz, if your lucky you will have a lot of life from the FIT DCT gearbox clutch, If not its an expensive repair. FIT Hybrid battery will cost a lot if something goes wrong. At that mileage suspension and small repairs might come up. Resale value wise you might be a little bit up on the deal with the Vitz after 3 years taking into consideration the age of the FIT, it being a hybrid and having a sophisticated gearbox (Brilliant but too many parts working inside and more chances for it to go wrong) which have a tendency to not function properly at high mileages in SL, that too depends on your luck i believe . Oh and it's a Toyota

Mate if you have this kind of experience with Peugeot's then im sorry to say either your being dishonest or your just joking. Im not for a moment going to say they are bad cars. Yes they are great cars in many areas, i have had my share of experience with Peugeots as well. I have also mentioned this in one of my previous posts as well, When these cars age, the frequency of various repairs are much higher than other marques like Volvo, Merc, Ford etc let alone the Japanese. To add to this the cost of these repairs are also $$$$ more than what you would pay for a Japanese. At one point that short guy at Dharshxxx motors knew me by name lol. Im not even going to talk about the aspect of frustration (Time and energy in various workshops) and depreciation with these cars. Lets imagine the OP is going to buy a Swift or a March. Somewhere down the line he has to replace all 4 shocks. Maximum price for the repair would be around 20-25K. Say he took your advise and buys a Peugeot, something similar like a 206 or 307. ~9 years ago i replaced the shocks of my 206 and 1 shock alone costed around 12.5K. 306,406 probably more. Clutch kits,Timing belt kits, mounts, CV joints ,electronics , Gosh don't get me started on the electronics. These cars if something goes wrong with the ECU , you have to replace the door locks, ignition key barrel and the BSI unit along with the ECU @ a lot of $$$$$$. These Euros are too sophisticated for their own good. If you have money, buy one new and enjoy for a long time. If your buying second hand then its asking for trouble!

What ⬆️⬆️ Said! Swift or Cruze As for the recommendation of the Peugeot for a first time car buyer at that budget , Are you Crazy ? He will say public transport is better after a couple of months.

Oil Changing Interval With Different Oils
TheFlyingFox replied to ravisam's topic in General Automotive
If this happened only 1 time then there is nothing to worry about. If you run 10,000 periods continuously with mineral oil then it can cause problems as aging mineral oil cannot clean the engine properly and the oil can break at high temps , this can cause the oil not being able to lubricate the engine properly adding more wear and tare to the components. You can run for long periods with Synthetic because they don't break at high temps for a long time and maintains it's composure. -
Oil Changing Interval With Different Oils
TheFlyingFox replied to ravisam's topic in General Automotive
20W 40 for a 118k mileage car ? Isn't that a bit too thick ? As Kuch said 118 is nothing for a properly maintained car. Mixing different oils from different brands can cause minor issues in the long run such as a sort of very thin sludge like substance being present inside the head. Same brand, wont have a problem. -
Perodua Bezza 2018 vs Toyota Vitz 2016
TheFlyingFox replied to Sachinkc's topic in General Automotive
This applies to Torque converter Autos. You should only put it in N if the vehicle is stopped for a long time, example at traffic lights. (If you leave it D for a long time when the vehicles is not moving it will stress the converter) . Frequently if you change it from D-N-D..... in our Colombo traffic it is not going to be favorable for the transmission. Continuously disengaging-engaging the torque converter will wear it out faster. -

I used to own a Fiesta imported by the agents. It was a 1.4L 4 speed conventional auto. I think the gearbox was borrowed by Mazda or vise Versa. It’s a very nice car to drive and quite fun. Fuel economy wise It would do around 7-8 in Colombo. Not very good on the highway as well (100kmph @ a tad under 3000RPM). Road noise was a bit on the high side though. The new ones are quite nice but i would stay away from ford’s powershift DCTs and automated manuals. They are not refined. Plus they Have quite a few problems in the long run albeit much better then they used to be . The ones in the Audi’s and even Honda are much much better. Get something with a conventional touque converter as @tbird said. If your not worried about resale value get one ! You will not regret it !

YOM of others except the biac ? That too there ar two. The car and the crossover.

First of all stop digging up old threads You are forgetting the fact that the GP5 is a hybrid and the GK5 (RS) is not. The GP5 wont have it's "higher" power all the time as the batteries needs charge-discharge. When they are discharged you are getting only the power of the engine, the power will fluctuate if run hard for longs periods of time. The GK5 maybe a tad lower on power but makes up with static peak performance, better suspension and brakes which overall makes it a much better "Sports" oriented car.

You get what you pay for , they are considerably less than a reputable brand , your example of the Kia stinger , a car with that sort of performance and characteristics (being a GT) from a reputable brand such as Audi or BMW or even a Japanese brand will cost a lot more !
