Mobil XHP.....so far,no complaints with it. I guess more than the OIL,it is prompt servicing that is important...... However, to get more oomph out of the ride, a non-restrictive air filter,a lightened crank pulley,a cat-back exhaust system and premium fuel.......... would be worthy investments.

Congrats and welcome to the Subaru world!! Is this the electric purple B4 that was once shown at Sirimalwatte,Mt.Lavinia?? Does yours come with a VICS Hybrid navigation? You say the former owner has replaced the stock ICE McIntosh? Somebody once said that the VICS is hardwired to the McIntosh....really interested to know if you can see the AC mode settings data displayed on the VICS screen without problems.....I am dying to fix a Pioneer that can read both burned discs and USB but get cold feet in tampering with the pristine stock arrangement. Did you get yours checked out at Sen0k's?I am told that timely TLC will make this Juggernaut give you a wild ride....

Man,what they could do to a slow 'n' heavy B4!!!!

A second post? That's an idea.....didn't know the protocols on max pics per thread-so I chose another post. No offense taken....all the pics came from a simple google search....my idea was to keep the B4 hunters interested in the search and not to tickle the jaded palates of the more senior members of the forum I am pretty sure there are more sexier pics of B4 that the pros of the forum are gazing now

'cuz there's some lame "limit" of pics I can share on one post

My,my....posting time Jul 7 2010, 01:15 AM!!!!!!! No rest for the curious-minded,I suppose!! (and no sleep, too, for that matter) I am no SPECIALIST(for sure)...just another bloke who loves a fast ride to get from A to B,in style-maybe turn a few heads..and lift some skirts(as someone in these forum so eloquently put) just posting some advice a pro and former B4 owner gave me before moving on to more speedier things...here goes(in his words and in the most unflattering terms)............. "To be clear on what Legacy's are - These are not speed monsters. Why Subaru did the Legacy was to cater for a more elite set of people who are mid-aged and would like to throttle over weekends and not feel so hard on their internals with the 'G's. Seriously, this is the truth. The B4 Turbo set-up is one of the most complicated set-ups they have done and I'm sure it is something they do not want to go back to. The turbo-lag in them are hideous. No matter how much you try to avoid it with aftermarket mods(costly ones), it just cannot be avoided. As you would know now, the primary is a smaller turbo that spools quick and efficiently and feeds in to the secondary at 4.5K rounds. Now the secondary is a much bigger turbo but does not hold its purpose as the RPM band is over when it starts to spool up to join the primary. This is the "mid-torque lag" that is common in a B4. If you want this to be eradicated, 1. Change the set-up to a single turbo 2. Motek or ECUtek remaps/upgrades As you know, the above two are costly operations. The alternative as advised by one of my contacts in Australia was to...... 1. Change the secondary to a smaller quicker Turbo (VF34 IHI or an RSK Primary) 2. EBC - Electronic Boost controller 3. Catback exhaust I had the above three done in my car and i tell you, it flew. Mine was the only car which was closest to beating the turbo-lag with a twin turbo set up. After I had the EBC fixed, it spitted fire on each gear shift! The above raised the car from a stock 250hp to least 280hp+ up. Of course these are numbers were not confirmed through a Dyno test but I ran head to head with WRX once! To extract more power from the B4 is a very difficult thing to do as it was not made to burn rubber like the Impreza's, or the second generation B4's. The car is heavier, more refined and more "Executive" with a good number of torque to get you from point A to B with a smile. Doing Mods on a B4 would lean more on its thirst, and as you are aware now, it is a heavy drinker. Mine ended doing only 4km's a litre after all of the above. I was ok with that cause I drove in comfort, it delivered power when I wanted too, and also, the back seat was ideal for those "Fun Occasions" Its one trouble free car if you take care of it. Keep the engine bay / Under carriage / and body nice and clean cause that will reduce wear and running cost on repairs." There-from the horses' mouth! This dude doesn't mince his words and he deflated my ego in no time flat!! Better be wise than sorry...so there!!! Over to you, specialists!!

When I checked it out some time back, it was available for 1.9Mln...missing a turning signal light and few scrapes on the front buffer

Good luck with a B4! I ,too, received pointers from Jehan when I was hunting for one-talking to him is rather sensible..... Try to go for one that is OEM and without so many dummy scopes hanging all over the cockpit/leaky BOVs and other mods...gives you a control on how YOU want your B4 to be...
-
The seller's attitude doesn't help,either....he keeps accentuating the minuses of the car and telling people that he can get it "done up properly" when it is bought from him....should ring alarm bells!! It is a blight to the Subaru B4s...

Gayan, sorry no idea about a pure manual B4-probably faster in the hands of a good driver.Senok stock parts and I repeat, the guys over there are extremely newbie-friendly..they also give you many varied options when it comes to a repair(I was a skeptic once,too)...but there are other places that stock parts and do repairs..if you look in the recent Subaru forum postings, you may see a reference to "no.33"-and that's all I'm gonna say "No second hand market" is a rather pessimistic way of putting things...IF you maintain your car good and move in Subie circles(not a MUST) you will always get your car sold(WE ARE MANY AND NEXT IS WORLD-DOMINATION!! Nah,joking---Subie fans are the MOST friendly and helpful guys around....take your car to Senok for a service and stike all kinds of friendships!)You can advertise on the net and on HitAd or sell by word of mouth...don't believe the stories spread to run down makes like Subaru-test-drive one first and brush your worries away! As in any car make, there are individual cars that are DUDS-I mean the ones that languish in car sales for months..something would have spooked the buyers;the exterior/interior of the car, shitty engine bay or a wise-ass seller...I STILL see a B4 by a roadside care sale somewhere in Colombo that attracts all sort of riff-raff wannabe ricers who would ask what kinda engine it has or the fuel economy of it(F*ck if you are on economy mode-go find a Maruti),bonk on the bodywork around the car(why, to find potty-filled parts???),get inside the car and rev it up until the seller clenches his teeth-and then give some lame excuse and disappear!!!(I've seen all this,first-hand) I believe that this single car gets all the unwanted attention of a street-side whore(ooops-sorry sys admin ,but I had to say that) "shrapnel ~ am not an expert on this but i don't think an ecu re-map will solve your VOD/lag issue." I saw this bit of info on the net Fuzzo- http://autospeed.com/A_111281/cms/article.html "In TT legacy's around 4500rpm there is a huge lag till 5000 to 5200, as i heard there is a valve that keeps exhaust gas entering to the 2nd turbo till a certain RPM. in sequential turbo setups one spools low, then at higher it kicks out and the other one kicks in, valley of death (VOD) in between it. the vale that prevent gas entering to the 2nd turbo is controlled by the computer, so remapping the ECU, changing the exhaust system and down pipe to bigger size help to reduce VOD. anyway the both turbos are smaller size so other that wasting time doing mods for VOD its always better to remove both turbos and replace with a single turbo, (TD04, TD05H, IHI VF XX ) can be found in SL, then change the exhaust system (4 down, 3 exhaust). No lag, no VOD, more power. But its very important to identify the different between hesitation and VOD. Hesitation is caused by the bad plugs, coil, grounding etc." Many thanx for your Tech info/advice, GihanFX!! "damn..... but i am still skeptical on how these B4's that are up on sale are maintained.. can senok identify if there are issues in the B4.. or would they say everything is ok.. and one fine day i will be stuck on the road....." Talk to Jehan at Senok,Charitha...he will sort you out.

Hello there,Mirage!!! Thanx and I feel that I am in the presence of another Subie fan!!!!(So you've leaned on the gas,too ) About the re-selling aspect of a B4...well, to tell you the truth, at the time of my own purchase, SO MANY people wanted me to buy a Nissan FB14 or a N16....THEIR philosophy was that these could be re-sold at the drop of a hat and how they had better gas economy and how they could be repaired from parts that were even available at the neighborhood grocery! I rode in the rear of a FB15 and my legs went numb from being cramped...the N16's looks left me cold and whatever cars that they were SELLING in these two models were hacked-out things that their present owners were waiting to get rid of. Then I had this idea of buying an ES1/5/8....I liked the cars but the sellers wanted sun, moon and stars(and your left nut, too) Remember, this was pre-tax cut and when unlike now all Honda stuff were kept in reserve by the owners to pump up the selling price (it truly sickened me what they were asking for these models). May I also hasten to add that these are MY PERSONAL OPINIONS-so please try to choke on your righteous indignation I broadened my mind-I looked further from my narrow criteria and discovered the B4(actually one of the dream cars I always watched in envy whenever one passed me on the road).I came to realize that you can't have the cake and eat it...so I went for the package that is a B4.(and now I am in seventh heaven! ) Of course I wouldn't recommend the same approach to others-their priorities might be FAR different from mine...but if you are looking for a fast, performance type car that is still a sedan that you could also take your folks in and not some monstrous dragster...THEN go for a B4! I don't know much about manual or normally-aspirated models...mine is Triptonic-good enough for ME...yes, it is a sequential twin-turbo setup and comes with the inherent turbo-lag or VOD handicap...but this is manageable I'm told with a ECU remap...haven't yet taken it on a wide-open straight road to test its limits. Hope that these ravings help to make up the mind of would-be buyers...

don't rush to buy ANY car.....if you quote the vehicle number, you may even get an unofficial history of the car
-
Don't thank me-I guess I'm a wee-bit biased Answers to your Twin-turbo OR Single-turbo query- read these articles ( http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Turbochargi...86/article.html http://www.veloce.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Twi...ion/valveop.htm ) and make up your OWN mind...the B4 is said to be one of the world's fastest SEDAN models(not coupes, cabriolets or purpose-built performance cars)-it's a trade-off between a comfortable sedan AND a performance model....if you are looking for pure performance there are other contenders(perhaps NOT OBTAINABLE HERE IN SL) The gearbox issues was muttered in circles where Multimatic gearboxes were employed, specifically EK3s....haven't yet heard it from a Legacy owner. To be fair, gear troubles can crop up in ANY car-mostly dependent on the driving-style of the owner..nothing a good test drive or a visit to the agent cannot detect! If you want to go for a B4, ask if the seller is ready to get it checked from Senok's...they have the service history of MOST of the Subarus around.... Fuel-wise 95 Octane is a MUST and don't bother with 90 Octane with Octane booster-these cars were never meant to run on that level of (im)purity and will soon give you trouble......

IMHO(seriously) ..................Since I purchased mine a few months back, let me tell you, the money I spent on it is SERIOUSLY WORTH IT...nothing like it surging ahead when you press on the gas ,looks cool and the interior is a treat with a good stereo...there are many other fine cars,of course, but why drive what every other Tom,Dick,Harry and Sunil drives??? I don't think the tax reduction is an issue for cars like these since there are not so many of these around for SALE...and the owners are not the type to buy one and sell soon for a quick buck!!If at all,the seller you find will be a Subaru aficionado, who would part with it NOT TO STRAY TOO FAR-most probably he will go for the next new version....heard a 2Mil figure but, it pays to ask around,do some homework, wear out some shoe leather,etc... Issues...how do you mean?Every car has its own pros and cons..so be more specific. What I've learned so far is prompt, correct maintenance can prevent a whole heap of trouble to your pocket...if you are stingy and skip regular servicing-you are in for trouble! The official importers are very newbie -friendly and there are other places you can take your B4 to set things right.Your "handiye kade" might have Toyota and Nissan parts but don't expect to find Subaru spares there! Another fine piece of advice I got from a pro is "don't rush to modify"! If you DO decide to buy the B4-then congrats...welcome to a wild ride!!! THINK FEEL DRIVE S U B A R U
