Gee...I hate to see you select your future partner (assuming you're still single)!! The way it sounds, all it will take is a mini skirt and some cheap make-up to get your heart pumping !!! And of course she will have to act expensive!

Spot on mate!, and actually I don't really care about "careful driving" (a term I see some of these Axio freaks use)to save fuel. Not because I have enough to sepnd but rather since I relish the roar it gives out on 1st and 2nd gears when you freely floor it. Cheers.

Since you have bothered asked and since I have been fortunate enough to be using one for the last 2 months or so, An Impreza GD2, 2007 (9 version), manual does, 8 - 8.3 km/l on weekdays under extreme traffic conditions 8.5 km/l on weekdays during school holidays 9.0 km/l on weekend travelling above 11.0 km/l outstation Note: above figures are facts and not fiction. Besides, I wouldn't want to be boasting of a Subaru with unrealistic fuel consumption figures when there is much more of it to talk about! Like most have pointed out, driving a Subaru is not about saving money on fuel but more to do with the shear pleasure of driving it. Handling is simply out of this world compared to other Japanese models (I was using an EK3, Ferio Mi earlier) cheers.

The total amount I had to pay for my agent was around 26,000 about two months back. They handled everything inside the port and outside including obtaining of the agent's valuation. All I had to do was to, initially provide all the documents specified by him, provide the check for the duty amount that was specified by him and on the day it was actually taken out, to go and collect it from a place close to the port exit gate, to which point he had by then brought the car and had it parked.

Vehicle Import Taxes Reduced To 25% What Will This Do To The Market?
luckyd replied to chew's topic in General Automotive
Is it "to" 25% or "by" 25%? Anyway "passenger Transport" vehicles can not mean cars, right? -
Yaa....it was stupid of me. Thanks for the info about the places. Cheers.

At this price range you could settle for a 2000/2001 RAV4 or a 2003/2004 X-trail Cheers.

Thanks mate.

That's what I thought also. But, last Friday I went from one end to the other of Panchikawatte in search of the 3M "Scratch Remover", but, couldn't find a single damn place which had a single 3M product. Finally, I came to this one store which does all the paint stuff and they had a collection of other alternatives. Actually, who are the authorized dealers for 3M?

Yes, you maybe able to buy the oil from Tech Motors, but, I am not sure whether getting it canged at any service point is a good idea. Besides, AFAIK, Stafford charges only 1000 to 1500 for the labour.

I was using a EK3 Ferio Mi version. AFAIK it represents the multimatic CVT transmission type....well, at least my one was of that type. Cheers.

This is the 1500CC, GD2 (chassis model). YOM - 2007 Can't tell the total cost yet as it is still on the way. Cheers

Well he is not a Subaru expert, if that's what you're expecting, but is more into Axios, ISTs.....obviously due to current demand. Like I had said, I located this car by myself in one of the auctions (they have auctions every weekday and anyone can find out what is available each day, with basic details, from the internet well in advance). After I found this unit I got his agent in Japan to check it out (agent would refuse to bid if not good enough) and gave him a maximum bid to go with. After winning they handled all the paper work and shipping for me. His name is Farhan (0777 900936). Speak to him and see. Cheers.

Hi mate, I got it done this morning at the IRD. As you said, I took along the T-10 and I didn't have to spend more that 1/2 hr for the whole process. Thanks again for the advise given. Cheers.

Yep, spot-on! I think with SOHCs you get the peak horsepower at a lower RPM compared to DOHCs, but, the peak RPM is relatively lower. SOHCs are by no means out dated. If you take the CIVIC FD1 (1800CC), it has SOHC (correct me if I am wrong)
-
Well it's already here...at least the documents are, and I collected them from the bank just yesterday. What I have got down is a Subaru Impreza. I personally selected it from the auction site and bought it through a person well known to me, who is in the business and who has an agent there. If you are looking for such a person let me know and I'll give you the contact details. Cheers.

Hello again, I managed to get a T-10 from my employer. Now, do I have to produce this along with the pink coloured application form in order to get the TIN no.? Or else, is the T-10 itself sufficient proof that I have a TIN no.?
-
Many thanks for the valuable info. provided. Cheers.
-
Your thoughts are a bit inline with mine. More than whether it is SOHC or DOHC, it is the no. of valves per cylinder that determines a lot. Like the DOHCs, there are SOHCs which have 4 valves per cylinder. This coupled with lesser mass will result in higher torque at lower RPM for SOHCs compared to DOHCs. But, afaik, the power output at higher speeds is more in DOHCs even when compared with 4 valve SOHCs.
-
Thanks for the info. From where should I get the T10 certificate. Alternatively, can I just specify my PAYE TIN no., which I know? Cheers
-
Thanks guys for all the responses. I was of the mind that SOHC gives higher power and torque due to lesser reciprocating mass. Am I wrong on that? And, also that DOHC is favourved since it is cleaner, smoother and more efficient since the valve operations are more precise.
-
Hello everyone, Thought of starting a new topic (assuming this hasn't been discussed before)to discuss the relative advantages of SOHC and DOHC engines. AFAIK, SOHC engines have only one cam shaft common for both the inlet and exhaust valves. ie. in an inline engine there would be only one cam shaft whereas in V type or horizontally opposed (such as the Subaru Boxer)there would be only two (one for each cylinder bay) On the other hand DOHC would have separate cam shafts for inlet and exhaust valves. But, which type is better? I' ve heard that SOHC engines have relatively lesser resiprocating mass and hence generates higher engine power and torque especially at lower RPM.

Hi, Thanks for the info. But, could you clarify a bit more on the PAYE tax involvement. I am importing a car and I do pay PAYE. What burden would this relieve me from? Would I still have to get a TIN even though I have a TIN for PAYE? Cheers.

Good on you mate! Thanks for all the info. Cheers.

Hi, Many thanks for the estimate for the GD2. I re-checked the chasis model for the Axela but, all I could find is the no. BK5P. Anyway, I am refering to the Mazda Axela 2007-2008 Sedan. Hope you can work out based on this information. Cheers.
