My younger brother drives it here. I think Cynos = Paseo (correct me if i'm wrong). I have driven it too and very reliable and a very light car, there fore very efficient on fuel (Around 14Km/L). In Cynos there is a model called Cynos alpha which is better. We havent had any issues but I have heard the clutch could give you trouble down the track. Check the break pads too as I was told they were expensive to get and were different from other Toyotas. (not sure about the SL situation though). I think it's a nice little car for the price you pay. Good luck with your buy.

Thinking of getting a Nikon D90. It is around AUD1600 here. I will be travelling to SL in Dec via Malaysia. Will it be cheaper to get it in Malaysia or locally? And also could some one give me a rough price of this model in SL please?
-
I think the only way to make it cheaper is to get together and import as a pool like Kaushama suggested in another thread before. Say if we could save 2 lacks per person, (i'm pretty sure we could save more) and if it's a group of 5 people we could save roughly around 1Mil. Another friend of mine was keen to do so as I wanted a Diesel vehicle and he wanted a car but I pretty much gave up after hearing some horror stories and I could not calculate the actual numbers due to no clear information in many areas. We all know that vehicles sell like hot cakes in SL (specially Jap recons) and there is always a demand, specially after the war is over and during the economic boom every middle class family is trying to get a vehicle. IMO if some one brings down a Jap vehicle and wants to get rid of it, selling it should not be that of an issue. If any one have did a pool/group type import could you please share some details as it will be helpful to many other members like me .

Do u recon the suspension would have got damaged? I hit a roundabout curb here and both my LHS front and back tires got damaged and I had to replace them and also I had to change the LHS front suspension, CV jolint, ball bearings and the knuckle. Even after all that and a four wheel allignment I still had problems with handling at high speeds and a wobbly effect some times similar to Sanjeew. When I took it back to a different mechanic they told to replace the bushes.

Well, This table is quite hard to understand. I know the first 4 columns are in Yen. Where do we get the final price from?
-
Well said Dilesh and also Say we assume there is another 25% tax reduction. Even when the tax was cut by 50% there was no significant change in prices except for some dealers and that was also a very small amount. When the tax is cut by 50% that 50% left over should add to the normal price of a vehicles pre-tax cut price. In reality if we check the numbers, there is barely any difference. May be a 10% less in some cases but nothing to get too excited about. I would say from the 50% passing on 40% to the consumer is not hard but the car sales people and every other personal importer who is importing vehicles are making it expensive. The reasons like Jap Yen has appreciated, some models have gone up due to SL demand, etc are pure BS. I would say they are pocketing most of it and making some great $$$ out oof this. I agree that the importers and car sales people have a tedious job to bring the vehicle to SL and the risks they face but I think it is totally unfair to just demand any amount they want. Some people AFAIK are demanding 6-7 lacks profit in one vehicle. That is the amount which is supposed to be the surplus from the tax cut and when the third man pockets it the consumer will not get the benefit. If the GOSL really want to reduce prices they should 1) Make the tax system of importing a vehicle clear (VAT, methods of calculating etc) - I personally wanted to import a diesel vehicle and gave up and started to look for a local one because there is no clear definition of anything. I have read every single post in this thread and gone through all other member calculations (Thanks firedragon your numbers were pretty close) and there are so many unclear areas. I don't wanna try to import a vehicle in a certain budget and later end up paying lacks beyond my budget. (I can remember the member who paid 6 lacks more for his van). The customs website is the crappiest site I have ever come across. You can't find anything and if you do so what ever you found dosen't make any sense. I would say all members would agree with this point. 2) Implement a strategy/policy to prevent price fixing - Since every one who imports a car randomly decides the price the government should enforce some sort of pricing system to stop this. I think some big govt officers get a share of what ever is made and this is why this is so complicated. 3) Address the public regarding this issue to make it clear what is planned and what will the policy be like - Some joker like PBJ will tell random things to the media and the people as usual wait wait and wait with hopes and dreams to own a vehicle and finally to be dissapointed. I'm not talking for people who are driving big SUVs or luxuary cars, they can afford them at any cost. If the government want's improve the life style of middle class people some thing should be done. As one member explained before, govt is getting a large sum as revenue through tax, revenue licence, petrol, insurance etc so they should do some thing. After all cars/transport is part of a basic need for any family and atleast one decent car per average family should be made affordable. I know many who buy a car in SL have saved for a vehicle making many sacrifices and many others are dreaming about owning a vehicle one day and taking advantage of these innocent people is not acceptable.

Yap so ture. I saw a you tube video with 3 hummers in it. A grey one, yellow one and a red one. I wanted to see how many Hummers are around and landed on that video. Try . Btw, the NSX looks damn sexy, kinda turns me on Thanks Chooti Putha.

This is the same old 2002 Gazette other members were talking before. Can any one have access to the latest version of it? The funniest thing is they come up with a law which is retarded, don't give guidelines or equiptments to the cops who implement it and don't let the general public aware what the correct law is. I prsonally think the Police department should make a public disclosure regarding this issue to clear all doubts. They look stupid when the DIG comes on TV and says some thing and some other copper make their own rules on a radio show and another one sends a totally different notice to the papers. Think about the poor motorist who is rushing some where and is forced to peel his tints in the middle of the road. Is there any member in the forum who has friends/relatives in a higher rank within the SL Police department who could clarify these facts and give some solid answers for the following questions. I'm sure all of us will much appreciate it. 1) Percentage of front tint allowed - (0%/30%/?) 2) Rear tints - (0%/30%/70%/?) 3) How is this percentage measured - But what exactly is a 70% tint in the back? 70% as opposed to (100%) a pitch black glass, 70% as opposed to a (100%) glass where you absolutely cannot see in from the outside, 70% as opposed to (100%) where you cannot see outside from in, or what? What is the proper benchmark to define a 100% tint? I wouldn't mind asking a cop that next time, as this whole 70% thing is pretty arbitrary and seems highly subjective if they're not using some kind of metre (I have not heard of them doing such a thing anyway) - Thanks Sean D If they give something in black and white it will save all motorists time/money/stress.

One of my friends dad has one, hence I have been in it and drivin it a little. IMHO Its smooth and has good pulling power but its so inefficient on fuel. If u want something economical I wouldn't recommend it. In the 2-2.3M range I think it is a good buy compared to its counterparts. It looks great and drives well but not sure about the engine problems but AFAIK my friends family didnt have any issues.

Thought to share a couple of bike I have used here. First is a Yamaha Virago 250 and the second is a CBR 125R. Haven't got any photos of my current one yet but will share soon.
-
Would totally agree with that. I know two of these bikes and the owners used them for ever and put them through every possible thing and they still kept going! The MD 90 (the red one) is also a good bike. I have seen many fishermen and other guys use MD 90s and supercubs and they just kept going for ever, specially considering the way they were treated.

I have sent you a PM, besides This pic was available to any one online and no one can see the plates, except to know its SL plates to be identified so relax mate.
-
Not FB, all thanks to Google lol. Saw the Lankan plates and thought to share. Any HC bike with a Lankan plate will surely give a "kick" to any one who loves them....
-
Looks pretty cool and seems to be registered too
-
So looks like the bike shold come in boxes and put it all together in SL. And even if its done so, cannot be taken into Colombo or anywhere where it will draw too much attention...
-
Thanks for that dude.
-
Since you already have two HC bikes I assume you got one which was already in the country. If im correct, did you register your bikes and did you have any dramas on the road from any coppers? How did u put it through RMV if you registered? I know you need to get some help with the RMV people but I mean what engine cc did you disclose? And if I get a local one, what are the chance of it being taken away?
-
Yap, nice to meet ya too. So u ride these in SL? great bikes, Good on you. I have ridden a friends Kawa GPX 250 but not a great Kawa fan but the new Ninjas are nice. I have been more of a Yamaha person. Me for the time just stick with my R6 I guess, nothing fancy but she goes fast. Keep the rubber down and safe riding always machan.
-
Well, thats why I started this topic to know about the limitations as I'm not aware of the current trend. I don't wanna get some thing illegal from NW province and get it take away by some "jealous" copper. I wouldn't mind getting one for track purposes though but I'm not sure do we need to register it with RMV even if its not gonna be a road bike. I'm more interested in a road bike. I already ride an R6 here and wish I had some thing like that there too.
-
Just leave us loose to import any bike we want and if you guyz (the cops) wanna catch those, u better upgrade too. Wish it was a bit more free kinda country....
-
Well said machan..
-
Well I know that there are many illegal bikes which get into the country through the North Western part of the country . Thanks for all the replies. Is there any particular reason for the 350cc rule or is it sumthing dumb like the tint law? the reason I was told is the Cop bikes are only 350cc and hence if some one has a bigger one and is trying to runaway from them, they cannot chase them This might be incorrect as some one told this to me. I personally think restrictions on engine size is useless since one can't go that fast within City limits with all this traffic.
-
Some thing like this?
-
Dude, What I was thinking is if the restriction is 350cc how come they are able to ride/import a 998cc R1 inside the country?
