What I meant was more of an extra burden, in addition to the wastage you pointed out. As for Micro, that can't be called locally made as they claim IMO cuz again as you say, that's just assembling parts from some other company. Self sufficient SL doesn't seem to be in any foreseeable future, and as for cars, no one seems to take interest/risk in investing in a manufacturing plant. Agreed, information is valuable for us to know even when giving to a 3rd party, but feel it's less trouble free when a friend would do it for free while they're importing 10 cars or so. But a small question there, do they have to pay more tax than an individual as it'd be a vat reg business?

I meant the contradicting info given by the personal importers these days after messing up something, so it's always better as I feel to ask more knowledgeable people present here It seems easier to give a large scale importer we know to bring it down here. As I've seen said here even, there is quite a saving importing personally, but the headache of getting all the requirements and running all over Colombo isn't sometimes very practical. But thanks a great lot for that info, makes it quite clear and I'm sure it'd be a big help for many people reading through, as we tend to have a lot of threads on importing various vehicles here these days.

'Years old' refers to the date of first registration to the current date right? And not the YOM? Even a blue/gift permit won't allow a vehicle registered in 2000 as this is end of 2010 and it'd be 11 years old while max limit for those are 10 years?

I expressed personal opinion in first part and comments from owners in the second part, different people perceive things differently Non related - As for doubts some have regarding the engine, the second hand 4E-FE never gave a trouble during 7 years of ownership but the brand new 2NZ-FE did twice in 2 years.

Nope, it's something wrong with the proxy we're using I guess, I'm not entirely sure. I get an error like this directly. I was able to view them without any problem after using http://www.ninjacloak.com and then downloading. Files came with a file name of hex without an extension but renaming it as *.rar or whatever format it should be in solved the problem. Suggestion - Maybe we could host/torrent some of the manuals we have and give links on AL? Would be easier than looking all over the net for many. I have several Subaru and Honda manuals, and others may have some too.

One hell of an IO you've got hold of! Never had the 'pleasure' of dealing with turbo problems though. Did you come across this? Source

It's not exactly the leg room itself I was describing as Killer-B pointed but the overall result which comes along with the wooden like seats. Besides, they're not even in the same category with the Alto being a kei car and the Starlet isn't. As you seem to favour the Maruti Alto though, do go for one if you really want to. But I've met much more than one person regretting buying the Maruti instead of the Suzuki 660cc at a little extra cost cuz of the lack of power, worse build quality, less efficiency, less quality parts needing more frequent replacement and so on, in the end leading to a higher cost of ownership.

Chrome is the fastest I've used of all, as several processes are being used for the tabs and one for the main kernal. If you type about:memory in your address bar, can see how efficiently it manages mem. And firefox/opera on other hand totally overload my comp with one huge process of around 200MB and a PF usage of 1GB+.. And do any of you still get this fatal error when replying to PMs? Cuz I do but the forum posting doesn't seem to have any problem.

I meant tables in the owners manual, not labels on your car really. And these stickers seem to say of your idle speed with AC, without, and odo reading for some maintenance. I don't know Japanese though, sorry. These aren't the exact for your vehicle, use them only as a guide to get what your own user manual says about these service intervals and getting an idea.

Hmm, ok then, obviously not supercars for any common people but I was thinking more in the terms of those little smart roadster cars. Anyway, thanks a lot for all the clarifications provided cuz I'm sure there would be more people who'd need all this info. Can't get why people make new threads for the same without reading this though. Yup, it may result in loss of revenues but people wouldn't try that if taxes were in the near single digit range, which I believe would never happen here. Well the problem with these "personal importers" are that they don't know most of the procedures and just end up providing false information and then the person who listens to them end up paying much more than they plan when they get the car to their hands. Better to know what's going behind the operation cuz most of these tax procedures are obscure and then we end up getting huge bills. True, the country will run into another big debt with so much of foreign currency flowing out of the country. Once again thanks for the info, and any idea where or how it might be possible to get CIF values the customs have?

Alto, Col-Kandy in the back seat, worst and slowest car journey in my life other than a few kms in a Maruti 800. Had cramps even the next day, the rear is just impossible to sit in straight! And not to mention heavily loaded slow lumbering trucks could go up the Kadugannawa hill better than the Alto, could barely do 30km/h. Go for it if there is absolutely nothing else, but I'd prefer a Starlet to that any day, even the EP82. I've heard the Viva to be better, though no personal comments as I've not been in one.

Yes I thought so and sadly I haven't come across an English manual of a 1NZ-FE with the CVT GB, so maybe it could help everyone if you could scan the last few tables and post. I'm sure there must be someone who knows Japanese here to translate?
-
@Big_D - The owner says auto transmission which requires ATF but I think the Axio only came with manual or CVT right? And a normal ATF fluid could easily destroy his GB..
-
As it's the same engine engine in the normal 141, Allion, Premio and Yaris/Belta, try to get an english manual and photocopy the engine related stuff. There's a whole lot of info at the back of the manual in a table, same applies to you I think. And you can find those manuals on the net, it's a very common engine/GB combo. A lot of people seem to be having difficulty with this Japanese manual thing, but I'm sure someone would have been kind enough to atleast translate one cuz then things would be specifically for the Axio.

Vehicle Import Taxes Reduced To 25% What Will This Do To The Market?
BLu3HaZe replied to chew's topic in General Automotive
Seems it's a big problem as we're nearly completely dependent on Japan to import cars here, and Yen is increasing not only with our rupee but with all currencies. So yes the tax reduction eventually may be of no use for people buying Japanese cars, but doesn't it give some benefit for Euro cars? Edit - What I don't understand is why such a sharp difference between 29th and 1st. JPY in LKR Large scale view suggests that prices should be low now -
Well for the first question, no the EX isn't an Evo X. It's just a normal Lancer in other countries and we and a few Asian countries have it as EX cuz we still have the older outdated ugly (IMO except the JDM Cedia) model for sale here. 3rd para here should make you understand F/C is stated in the ad, I usually go by -2 of what people claim and here in Kandy for the permit EXs which I know, around 8km/l is about right.

I've seen a new Fit in Kandy and many new Demio's and went in the latter, it tends to feel more powerful as most of their cars are, and much more stable than the Vitz at higher speeds.. Btw, in case your options are only Vitz or Fit, the Fit would make a better choice IMO. As for 2nd hand price, Honda seems to be holding on pretty well now, atleast in Kandy there are huge asking prices and people to buy at the same, but can never be sure as this is SL..

@DevakaC - Thanks a lot, that was quite clear information Two more small questions, the agent supplied CIF value is not a problem for models they import, such as the Prado in your example which they import directly from Japan, but do they supply even for other models, such as models in other regions which are not available in Japan or SL? And what about vehicles that do not have agents, do the customs take the CIF of the invoice or have they appointed an agent for every single make or do they CIF of a dealer of another country? @rangerover - Well that depends on the agent too, cuz I called up St*ff*rd and asked for some CIF prices and they gave away info without any problem, though they seem to know only of JDM models and chassis codes. On the other hand, when I called A*W for Nissan, they directed me to 4 different people and finally told that they can't disclose CIF information unless we import it here first and bring the documents to the head office

Hey guys, For some who try to access the site http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/, they might get a Forbidden error. Please use a proxy to access the site if so, then it works without a problem. Maybe it's something to do with an IP address block, I'm not really sure what. Thanks!
-
Weird you could find any manuals in that link when we can't see any such thing and getting a 'forbidden' error . (Edit - Seems it's something wrong with a set of IP addresses being blocked while it's accessible to some in SL even but not for another set) Allion NZT260, seems too hard to find cuz it's just a JDM only car and I doubt whether an english version can be found.. But do post it here if you come across that.

Got Airtel and Mobitel both now so can compare unlike when I first had only Airtel. As MkX and royalkalana said, yes there is a slight issue in loading pages with scripts and flash videos, the data rate drops to 0 after some time, but reloading always works for me Though it is a pain sometime, and happens between 6pm and 12am usually. After that it's blazing fast, no problems whatsoever. But at any time with P2P connections, it gives me average minimum of 50KB/s (400 kbps) with a maximum of around 240KB/s (1920kbps) cuz their limiting isn't that solid. It's cheapest too so I'm happy enough, with 5GB at 1.8Mbps less than 450Rs. Mobitel is a different story, whatever the time is, it's amazingly fast in browsing web pages but kinda slow, around 30KB/s (240kbps) max as I've seen in P2P. I think they may be throttling P2P traffic while Airtel has something going the other way around. About the shared IP, the limited plans in Airtel have separate dynamic IP as I was told, such as the 600 package serialkiller is speaking of. But unlimited plans such as mine have one shared static IP address and that makes it nearly impossible to download from rapidshare etc. cuz they check the IP address. After 12, most people are sleeping so then possible Oh and btw, these are only valid for the place they're currently used. If I take my Airtel conn to the front of the house, it sucks big time and same case with Mobitel if I bring it to my room. Dialog sucks everywhere over here, very low speeds other than outside the house. Wireless connections will always have that problem with coverage.
