  1. Yes that's all very good but you have to realize there is always normal wear and tear however careful you're with anything. That can't be prevented completely even with seat covers etc., but can prolong the time it takes to do the same deterioration. And they do easily come off you know... The Don was speaking about vacuum cleaning yourself before you get in
  2. Great write up as usual jdnet A few quick questions - How many wires are there in your O2 sensor? How to identify them and use? What is the signal line to connect to an AFR gauge? Thanks!
  3. If you only care about F/C and 2nd hand value, best option seems to be the usual 121. Belta prices have been crashing at an alarming rate recently
  4. Ah ok, that'd have been a very costly repair if so as you can't find used parts for the E46. As for the March, didn't mention that the most number of accidents I've seen on the Gannoruwa road were of K11/12 thinking owners would be upset and think I'm bashing them, but seems it doesn't matter Underpowered on the 1300cc? Haven't really felt that but it does truly max out at around 165km/h (AT+2NZ-FE) like the owners manual states. As for handling, it's got a heavy front end, usually a front stabilizer, front McPherson struts so it seems as they've only engineered the front and fitted an inflated balloon to the rear riding on torsion beam suspension. Cornering at 80+ slides the rear and hard to correct with the understeer present due to drive layout. Found out properly in an emergency drive (thieves at a relatives house) in the Gampola-Kandy road at around 100. No idea how they intended it to work on highways in Japan.
  5. Didn't want to check top speed and don't wanna find out either, don't even want to drive a load of crap like that ever again, I'd much rather go on a mountain bike instead, no still not an Indian/Chinese one As for it nearly flying, very true as that boxy shape seems to make the car very unstable, after all it's a design from the 80s. Good you let him go cuz yes, the brakes in it are so useless at that speeds you don't really get any sense of slowing down, and would obviously have rear ended you. What were you driving, the E46 or March? @virensti - The rear has semi independent suspension on the Yaris/Belta, but you're right the tail does step out at high speeds with a very light rear end, also think the shape is generating some amount of lift. Not very safe or easy to control at high speeds, and a functional spoiler would be a good addition even though it's a FWD.
  6. Ah yes, other older vehicles will struggle to maintain that speed, but as there seems to be no minimum speed limit imposed yet, they can very well do 40km/h and annoy other drivers to death Scary yes, wouldn't have even thought of it if the road wasn't totally empty. As no one seems to know, was wondering what the max the car could do, safely. Have seen many cars run off at high speed corners.
  7. Err, true that Gannoruwa road is wider than this but hitting 80km/h is quite easy in that, done 100 even in a Maruti 800 but that was very unsettling, very unstable and was sliding all over the place while cornering, very little control while the tiny engine was screaming
  8. More than going at 100km/h (Gannoruwa road which is like Kandy's test track for many, has many bends and people have gone upto even 150km/h), going at that speed and not crashing would be the problem. And as buses are allowed, they'd try to go at the max speed possible and I bet there'd be some roll overs due to higher COG
  9. Where can we find some performance oriented parts for a DY Mazda2? Also need the engine specs/manual for the Asian region which came with the Jap ZY/ZJ engines but in English, can you help dillongt?
  10. Yup, I also couldn't find the posts, was wondering what happened but you should be correct, must have deleted
  11. That just doesn't seem right to be called a highway, even the new Katugastota bridge seems to be wider than that So this is the M1 of SL? Wonder when they'd start work on the Kandy-Colombo highway, hope atleast that's three lane. They've notified people here of where it'd pass through and what lands would get used. According to the original plan, there was to be a spectacular bridge near the starting point (from Kandy) of around 1km
  12. Yup, your former incarnation, if you can remember Well he'd made many bogus claims, so yea none of them were his. He said his Crisco tuned Allion does 21km/l or so IIRC
  13. Aha, so this is the famed Crisco Nihal huh? Read through it those days, lost track of the user name when trying to show someone
  14. This is still March, you can still import anything first registered after middle of Oct 2007, the limit is 3.5 years, don't you read anything posted on the forum while trying to buy/import an unreg car?
  15. Hey guys, how is the situation on the Mirigama track now? Still open for public on any day for any car? Revised rates? Thanks!
  16. Guys, what are the events happening this month? DD's calendar is empty for March, so anything else?
  17. Yup, and that just makes the whole forum go down The old days were so much better, was reading through the forum a long time before joining. Endless supply of entertainment anyhow, though it gets tiring after some time
  18. What's that pro pic? O.o

  19. Well I've seen Leyland/Tata buses badged as semi-luxury and running long distance trips... Which means there isn't much of an exclusion of maniac private bus drivers.
  20. A big +1 Quite apparent from most of his posts
  21. Maybe problems haven't come up yet and you've been lucky, but still it's not advisable, and not everything off wikipedia, owners' manuals do say about leaving it in D most of the time to prevent excessive wear or damage to the transmission, unless in a hill climbing situation where OD should be disengaged. Other positions are for low traction conditions where upshifting might occur at unwanted times due to wheel spin and the GB 'thinking' the vehicle is moving fast. You probably don't have an owners manual as it's a JDM right? So you just do whatever you feel like to your car, but leave that poor cousin alone

  23. For the Cedric, I did say most. If comparing with the 260, which you say are large family cars, then old competitors would have been the Chaser, Cefiro etc. and they gave better comfort although made around 10 years ago. Ah so fixing lots of extra speakers keeps it original?
  24. Why would anyone need to switch to 2 to overtake anyway? The G/B automatically shits down to an appropriate gear without over revving the engine if you step on the accelerator. Almost all owners manuals have advised to use 3 and below in low traction conditions or when constant hill climbing; in cars not equipped with an OD button, there is a 3 position or turn off OD if equipped and it's advised to use those to prevent overheating the transmission.
  25. Happy birthday Darin! Hope you have a great year ahead and win your races and also be the first to bring down many exotics!!
