  1. so you think if you can get a gift certificate then you only pay a small amountof taxes? the £1000 i guess would include insurance. regarding the cars the navarais sig bigger in the cab and load space, also can tow more. but they have a bad rep for the electronics suddenly dieing. hilux is a good inbetween but its priced expensively here. the l200 is smaller, but a good size for small businesses, farmers, etc and is much more popular.
  2. Hi I am looking at possibly importing a pickup from the UK. The most likely is an L200, there are loads of them here, or a Hilux or Nissan Navara. I notice Navaras arent that popular in Sri Lanka and maybe the Hilux is more popular then the L200. So anyway I can get a 6 year old L200 for about £5000 ($7000) http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/mitsubishi/l200/postcode/sw62bt/radius/1501/maximum-age/up_to_7_years_old/price-from/5000/price-to/6000/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/sort/priceasc I believe shipping is about £1k So assume a total delivery cost of £6000. Can anyone confirm that the follwing tax is payable? I can either import it myself (british citizen), my wife (sri lankan national) or donate it to her father, or import it to her business in Sri Lanka, would the person importing it affect the tax rate? http://www.customs.gov.lk/tariff/chapter872011.pdf (As an aside I wondered if the LTTE ever paid tax on this code: 87.10 8710.00) The L200 is a 2.5l diesel: 8703.32.80 'Motor cars including station wagons and racing cars of a cylinder capacity exceeding 2,000 cc, more than three and half years old' Taxes: GT)27% 30% U 12% 5% 2% 124% or Rs. 375,000/= per unit So total taxes would be 200% on 30% of the Sri Lankan new dealer price. However is that the unregistered Sri Lankan price? http://www.customs.gov.lk/news/Depreciationmv.pdf These guys are selling a new car for 3.9mLKR http://www.unitedmotors.lk/products/mitsubishi/l2004wd.php Is this right, you can buy a new one for 3.9mLKR, or import a 6 year old one from the UK for 3.25mLKR? If not then the 30% depreciated value x 200% tax is assessed on the unregistered price in Sri Lanka. Thanks Rob
  3. Hi How is it to maintain in Sri Lanka, can the local dealers get spare parts and otherwise is it an OK car to have there. I am thinking about buying one in the UK and there is a chance we would relocate to Sri Lanka later and hence would want to ship it over. Thnaks Rob
