  1. Oh come on guys. Is this the right way to treat a newbie? If everyone was an expert on cars, they wouldn't come here right ?
  2. Now I'm really posting this because I have no idea about this matter. I've been told by many that the Korean cars are not very high in build quality and can be disastrous at an accident. However I've not heard the same being said about the Indian cars and obviously a lot more Indian cars are being sold than the Korean ones. Are the Kia Rio, Hyundai Accent/Sonata/Elantra even worse than the Suzuki Maruti/Alto in build quality ? The Swift is a different article since it incorporates Japanese technology. But if the Indian vehicles are not any better, or worse, than the Korean vehicles, why do people keep buying them in heaps ? Is this because the Maruti/Alto are among the cheapest available brand new cars ? Or is this because the resale value of some Indian vehicles seem to hold up better ? Why do most people seem to consider the Korean vehicles as inferior ? Is there really a risk to safety in buying a Korean car ? Thanks
  3. Lol. I am aware of an ES8's price, I just mentioned the bug found. The Camry looks good, but even a 20yr old example seems to be still going higher than 1M. Been checking out some Accords which I tend to like more due to the conservative look (I wish the EG8 was less sporty). I've heard that the Accord has a higher fuel consumption than the EG8, is this true ? And it seems that most of the EG8s available for sale have been used quite badly interior wise.
  4. jdnet, no LKR. Already registered here. But I've just discovered that AutoLanka does not display the full ad text in the individual ad pages (which gave me a Civic ES8 at 0.9m only to discover that with leasing - which was only displayed in the list classified view and not in individual ad - it becomes 2.7m ). So might need a double check.
  5. I have found two classified ads from the same person for a 2008 Toyota Axio and a 2008 Toyota Prius. Both have the price mentioned for an amount between 1m and 1.5m. No mention of a lease. Why could this be ? Stolen vehicles ? Or there probably is a lease to be paid ?
  6. Thanks Big_D. Could you guys please recommend to me what could be the best choice for this price range ? Can add .15m more.
  7. Schiffer, I agree. What I'm really looking for is a car that has a curvy look rather than an edgy one. Any idea on the average fuel consumption of the Bluebird U13?
  8. Thanks, Big_D. Are there any Japanese sedans with English numbers at this price range ? I've found some wagons but no sedans.
  9. ShintaroX, I did - and none of the listed options are curve models, but edge models. And all of them are numerical numbers and none are English. AutoLanka should consider implement a Search by Price function to the buy section. Does anyone have fuel consumption estimates for Presea R10 and Bluebird U13?
  10. Well, this thread has gone far away from the original topic. I am not buying a car based on what my neighbours think, for that to happen I'd have to have been a super idiot. But rather, my question was why do people think so ? 9 out of 10 average car owner that I've talked to seem to believe that the Maruti 800 is a MUCH better car than the Hyundai Sonata. Is this correct ? If so, why ? Or is this solely a myth ? And can we please discuss some possible Japanese choices ?
  11. Hi guys, per my earlier threads, I have now updated my requirements. Since everyone says "No Korean cars" to the extent that it is almost a phobia - I don't want to buy a Korean vehicle to be later ashamed by those Japanese loving neighbours who seem to believe that they know everything about every car on earth (no offence to the educated guys here - I'm talking about your average next door neighbour ). So could you guys please help me find a Japanese vehicle (car/cab - only sedans and double cabs please) per following requirements ? And feel free to suggest Indian vehicles too since everyone I've talked with seem to be in the opinion that the Indian vehicles are as great as the Japanese. Budget : 1mln 1. Should have an English number, and look stylish (ie- not box shaped. I'm not expecting the 2011 level aerodynamic designs, but just looking modern ) 2. Should have a good enough fuel efficiency 3. Should be easy to maintain Thanks
  12. Some ideas for you here http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/2011-consumers-top-rated.html
  13. Very sorry if I'm flooding this place with posts about Korean cars - a breed which many seem to hate. After a lot of research, I've come to find out that the 2000/2001 vintage Accents (and Rios) are quite low in quality compared to their competitors. However the type has improved vastly since the introduction of the second generation in 2005. Now it has a more powerful engine as well as a better built. Are there any 2005/6 vintage Accents on market (used/re-conditioned)? How much would an average example cost ? How much would it cost if bought from an agent as reconditioned ?
  14. Guys, any idea on the Hyundai Sonata? Isn't it a bit roomy than the accent ? Any known issues with it ? Thanks
  15. Hi guys, As you may have noted in the other threads, I have a few questions about the Kia Rio. Could someone who has experience with the vehicle help me out ? As you are aware, the Rio is an entry level car which is targeted for the low cost market. Hence it's full option menu is not clear to me. Particularly the 2001 version. Does it have AC? Power steering? What about the other little features like power shutters and power mirrors ? The later Rios seem to have these in general. But I'm not sure of the 2000/2001 version, which seems to be the most common in Sri Lankan market. And any idea on the average fuel consumption of auto vs manual ? How much extra should I expect to pay for a later, say 2003, Rio? Many thanks.
  16. @Big_D Thanks. But for some reason I quite don't like the wagons or the hatchback. The Familia looks rather box shaped, doesn't it ? And the Spectra is pretty much the Rio, just with a different name, right ? It's now been out of production for a few years anyway. So will parts be an issue ? Any idea on the fuel consumption of the Nissan AD and Spectra?
  17. @Pericles and if you won't mind my asking, why won't you ? Do you think that it will be a bad choice per my requirements ?
  18. Crosswind, not really on a final conclusion. I'm keen on finding out what could be the best option. Surely a Japanese car from same vintage will hold better than a Korean one. But a 2002 Korean vs a 1992 Japanese, not now, but five or so years from now on ? Nevertheless, let's forget the resale value. Are Rio and Accent really usable cars ? No major issues that they are prone to ? I've noticed that the Accent has a tad higher value. Is it better on fuel consumption ?
  19. Uditha88, thanks. Well this is just my opinion. As the market moves toward more aerodynamic shaped vehicles in the next few years, obviously not many will be willing to buy an older looking - quasi-box shaped vehicle. Hence I thought that the Rio (or the Accent) will hold on its own better than an R10 or an EG8. Couldn't it be possible ? After all, if there is no major issues with the Rio and Accent (the 2002 version of Rio is much better than the 2000 version it seems), and the fuel consumption and repair costs are comparable with the Japanese. Why not ?
  20. ShintaroX, nothing suspicious. The questions are for two people with two different budgets. One is for a friend. After all, it doesn't hurt to know if there is a better option at a lower price, right ? No problems. I can understand that it may have sounded kinda fishy.
  21. Could someone please share with me the correct figures (worth paying) for a Rio of 2003 and an Accent of 2003? How would it compare with the pre-facelift of same models ? Any idea about the later facelift ( post 2005) prices ? Many thanks
  22. @Pericles First time that I heard someone being so confident about it. Ever used one ? Indeed I too have narrowed the options to Accent and Rio now.
  23. Crosswind, indeed, that's the goal. Given that the Wira is now out of production, I guess it is safer to go with either the Accent or the Rio. Any idea which of these could be a better fit ? Is the Accent's build quality rather higher than the Rio? Btw, offtopic, but the 2011 Elantra is a real looker - and it's cheaper (overseas) than the Civic or the full option Rio.
  24. Interesting thoughts. I'll give it a consideration. However, for a possible sale within an year or so, a Rio could probably be a good investment. What to do you guys think ? Any idea on how much it will cost for a post 2005 facelift Rio? Btw, what about the Accent ? How does it's fuel consumption compare to the Rio? Unfortunately, it will be the future tax levels that will determine the resale values of all three of Civics, Rios and Accents. And I've got no idea what will happen to the future brand new selling price of the Rio, which at present is comparable to the Civic (both $15K)
  25. I'm no expert on car market prices. But IMHO, I believe that in five years, a 10-15yr old Rio will have a better resale value than an EG8 which is nearing the end of its product lifecycle. Feel free to recorrect me
