Although all the electric car owner happy about the increase of Duty on Electric vehicles from 5% to 50% the infrastructure investment (Charging points) will stop with immediate effect. The number of charging points you will see will decline drastically. There will be very few new owners for electric vehicles. The expectation of a electric car owner to charge the vehicle will be an issue. Anyone planning to buy a Electric vehicle is only a dream now, throw that idea out the window! Yahapalanaya Government crushedpeoples dream of Electric vehicles with a least effective budget. People owning electric vehicles will be stuck with their vehicles for life!

Good Place To Do My First Service Of Honda Grace
MoneyMaker replied to TSR's topic in General Automotive
Honda has the worst repair center/service! The customer service is also ZERO. The prices of Honda parts quoted by Stafford is more expensive than maintaining a Mercedes Benz at D*MO. How do we officially raise this issue with Honda Global???? -
The import duty rates on vehicles, to be imposed in this year’s Budget, would be applied to all the vehicles that reach Sri Lankan shores after the budget was produced, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said today. He said many people had criticized last year that they were not informed beforehand when the previous government imposed taxes on imported vehicles. “We decided to make this announcement as we were subjected to heavy criticism last year. We didn’t ask anyone not to send any vehicles to Sri Lanka till the budget is presented,” he said. The government increased import duties on some categories of vehicles and the new rates were changed from the vehicles that arrived in the Sri Lanka ports after the budget date in early 2015 and the new rates were charged even though the vehicles were sent prior to the Budget. - See more at: http://www.dailymirror.lk/90093/vehicle-import-levies-to-be-applied-after-budget-ravi#sthash.fQfh8rxr.dpuf What going to happen?? How Would The Market React To The 2015 Budget Proposals?
MoneyMaker replied to tcfern1's topic in General Automotive
The Japanese vehicle prices have dropped significantly due to the exchange rate against the US $. Which means brand new & reconditioned vehicles coming from Japan are at an all time low. Good Time to buy a vehicle. This exchange rate will have a effect on used vehicles in the market (2nd hand) as well. Due to not much of a price difference on recently registered vehicles Vs Unregistered Vehicles Estimated Prices: Eg 1: Vezel (depending on the Grade X or Z) would have costed you between 4.7 - 5.15 Million 2+ months ago but today it will cost you 4.2 - 4.7 million (all inclusive) if you clear it during this time Eg 2: Allion 2013/14 will cost you in the range of 4.5 - 4.7 Million Even brand new vehicle prices from Agents will/should/has come down... KEEP AN EYE OUT AND DON"T LET CAR SALES GUYS FOOL YOU WITH THEIR LIES.- 158 replies

How Would The Market React To The 2015 Budget Proposals?
MoneyMaker replied to tcfern1's topic in General Automotive
There are no significant changes to the vehicle tax reductions. Changes are only applicable for electric vehicles and Van's and the VAT reduction of 1% is applicable for all vehicles imported in the future.- 158 replies

Uk/australia Imported Vehicles Pros & Cons
MoneyMaker replied to MoneyMaker's topic in General Automotive
@ Crosswind & iRage The reason for UK vehicles having under carrage rusting issues is due to the salt sprayed on snow. Snow dissolves very fast when salt is sprayed on. During bad wheather conditions there are salt spraying trucks which go around spraying salt on the roads. This leaves the the roads very salty and vehicles travelling in these conditions gets a good amount of salt on their under carrages. Over time rust appears & growns and hence the rusting issues. Again not all vehciles have this issue as it may have not Snowed in the UK @ the point of the 1st sale of vehicle till it was shipped to SL. Climatization I have personally had experience with 2 UK import vehicles where rubber parts, plastics & dashboards etc whcih have cracked or begins to alter with the heat. Warranty This something very important when buying a vehicle. The options and the choices given by the agent my not be the most loaded vehicle but we spend alot of money of on vehicles in Sri Lanka and having warrantly would give you a peace of mind. But this is totally based on opinion and choice. -
Uk/australia Imported Vehicles Pros & Cons
MoneyMaker replied to MoneyMaker's topic in General Automotive
Noise reduction due to highway use: The bulit quality of the vehicle seems to be better as the the example taken for this point is the Hilux from UK Vs Thailand. The Hilux coming from the UK is made in South Arfica the doors have padding etc.. Book Recon: Well example taken for this point is E Class bought by XXXXX Motors is Brand New from Germany and not Via the agent but the book states recondition on the book which makes you wonder if it is worth going for the vehicle. This point may be of no interest to some people. -
Allion 240 for sure is a better car (2005-2007). DRIVEN BOTH fuel consumption- Allion handling- Probably the same maintenance- Probably the same re-sale value- Allion Fuel- Allion

Hi All, I am thinking about buying a vehcile imported from UK and would like to know the pros & cons I am getting mixed infomration, So far: Pros More options Leather seats (More frequent) Alloy Wheels (More frequent) Build Quality of vehcile is better Noise reduction due to highway use Cons Rust No agent warranty Not climatized hence crack appear on dash boad, seats etc..(3-7Years) Vehicle name may differ (Example: Montero and Shogun) 2nd hand market is less for UK imported vehciles Book states recondition altough vehicle is brand new I would like to know what the experts on this forum think? Some of these points are very valid when choosing a vehicle but there is always a growing demand for UK imports. I did skim through past topics to look for answer but infomration is scattered in many threads and want to know the most updated information if any, hence the reason to start a new thread. Looking forward to a healthy thread

Today's vehicle prices drop/decline was predicted long time ago!! Who said what now?? -
I was informed that the customs have pulled up the agents because apparently the agents were trying to bring this vehicle down by under valueing(illegally) it because there is no way this vehicle brand new could be bought for $30,000. Can some one verify?
