Hi there Not sure if this is available in SL. COLEMAN also makes some good cool boxes and 12v fridges. They also makes good thermal boxes where you could either run it cool or warm. Usually works +/-10 degrees from ambiant tmperature. Ideal as a cool box or to keep food warm. Cheers

Ok guys I was hoping to select the best, and most thought out reply to my thread "Extreem Makeover" and send that person a mystry prize. Well only two guys (Pila and Dragster) posted, so you both get the following prize ......... Cheers. PS please give a few weeks for the post.

Thanks for your replies guys. I was just curious. Ashan.....you are quite right in what you say. When the playing fields are level European (especially German) cars are still leagues ahead of the Japanese brands in terms of design and build quality. However, not as reliable as the Japanese. It is for this reason, our SA market is still predominantly a European brand market when it comes to cars with exceptions towards iconic cars like the EVO, Sti, GTR, etc. It's my opinion too, that for sheer all round driving pleasure the Europeans rule. Pitty that their reliability issues still need some way to go. Cheers

Thats cool Pila!! Seems you are the only one to take part in this thread. What a pitty.......I guess I will have to send you the mystry prize then Or may be I'll give it a few more days. Cheers

Ok guys please give this a try. Your task is to buy a used car (any make and model) and turn it into a street legal, part time racer (for drags). What car would you buy and why? (please indicate how much you would spend) What mechanical mods will you do and why? (indicate spending) What cosmetic mods will you do and why? (indicate spending) Here is the catch :- To buy the car and to do the mods the funds available to you is......USD20,000 (for those living in SL) and USD 10,000 (for those living in the rest of the world). I will post my extreem makeover later. Cheers and have fun.

One of my friends living in SL and working at a reputed company at a very senior position recently wanted to buy a b/new car. So he did some shopping around and decided on a mid sized SUV as he has always liked SUVs. Besides he is one of those outdoor guys who likes to get out once in a while. As he was about to close the deal, his bosses had heavily discouraged him from buying the SUV and pressured him to buy a luxury saloon "as a saloon would be more appropriate for his status". Is this for real??? Is this a common thing in SL to have social and peer pressure even when deciding on what type of car to buy? My friend eventually bought a saloon from the same dealer who was going to sell him the SUV. But my friend is not all that happy. Cheers

Moving From India: Looking For Loan Information
Duncan replied to chakki's topic in General Automotive
Hi there Sorry can't help you with your question as I don't live in SL. Hopefully someone else will do the needful. Never the less, I would like to welcome you to AutoLanka and hope that you will enjoy the motoring experience in SL. Cheers -
Need clarification please. I have noticed that European cars seem to attract a premium price as compared to Japanese makes in SL. Why is this? Is this due to a discriminatory duty structure or people's perception that European cars are better? I am quite curious as in our SA market there is no such discrimination. For example, a Toyota Camry would more or less be in the same category as a similarly speced BMW 5. Cheers

Rather than installing a new alram can't you get the remote frequency reset along with two new remotes? This is what we do here and it is much cheaper than having a b/new alarm installed. Not sure if this is available in SL. Cheers

Hi guys Thanks so very much for all the replies. It has been quite useful and now I need to do some shopping around and come up with something ideal for my needs as well as my pocket. Will keep you posted. Thanks once again everyone !!! Cheers

Having many years of off-road (4x4ing) experience, one day a few of my novice friends with 4x4s asked me to give them a training session. Being honoured by this request and the fact that my 4x4ing capabilities were fianlly being recognised ( at least by a few) I fixed a date a venue for the exercise. Before doing a practical session, I decided to conduct a theory session on what to do and what not to do. Having done that, it was time for the practical session and I gathered my faithful students around the first obstacle. Driving through lose sand. Thought I'd start with an easy thing before progressing to the more difficult stuff. If memory serves me well, I think I even announced this! Having told my students how to tackle lose think sand, I got all the 4x4s lined up for the challenge with my 4x4 being the first, so that I could show the others how a master does his thing. Being very confident in what I was doing and that it was quite an easy task, I engaged 4x4 and attempted the drive. To my horror and utter embarassment the vehicle got stuck the moment it entered the sandy section. Quite puzzled by this and the lack of any success after multiple attempts, I ended giving up. As I walked away trying to figure this out, one of the "students" got into my 4x4 and pulled off without a problem at all. More embrassment!! However, much more embarassment was yet to come........Turns out, I had forgotten to lock the front hubs before engaging 4x4!!!!! Anybody else got an experience to share??

Hi guys Apart from my passion for cars, my other passion since I was a kid has been photography. Lately I have gone professional with this passion and get called out to cover various events. I need a good lap top that can help me with my work as I mostly shoot digital (eventhough digital still can not match film). This is what I need...... (1)good storage capacity - most pics are between 4Mb and 10 MB in size each. (2) fast processor - for quick loads and digi shop work. (3) anything else you may suggest. My knowledge on computers is not that great. So please help me out here guys. What kind of a lap top will be suitable for my work? I am not all that interested in brand names. What I need is the specs I should look for. Thanks in advance.

Might be a good idea for SLTB ( do they exist?)!! Imagine private "water buses" running down our rivers and lakes Soon we will have a three wheel version entering the scene

Yeah it is quite amazing what amount of money some people have. There are several housing developments here in SA where all the houses are built around a landing strip and each house owner has his/her own air-craft. Each house has it own parking area for the air craft. So some of these people work 1000kms away from home and travel every single day using their personal air crafts. What a life ! Onr guy, I read, has a passion for collecting DAKOTAs (remember this aircraft?). So he has five parked by his house. Damn!!! I guess they wake up on saturday mornings and have a hard time trying to decide which aircraft to take shopping
-
by the way ...........wonder if there might be any members in AL who do actually own an air-craft or even a chopper. You never know!

Ok cool..... Me being a off-road freak...my selection will be more inclinded towards that. (1) Toyota Hilux D/cab - use it for camping trips as well as off-road competetions. (2) Pajero LWB - use it for camping trips and pulling my off-road trailer on over landing trips. (3) Pajero SWB - nippy around town, easy to park and also use it for the odd bush trip. (4) 300ZX TT - use it when the boy racer in me comes out. Always loved the Z cars. (5) Mini Cooper (1975) - always wanted one. Have more fun going round the corners than I do with the ZX. What I would like to have....... - A fully kitted out PETERBULT (rig/horse/semi/truck). This might sound stupid, but I also have a passion for trucks. - 1967 Mustang (stock) - not the Shelby, cause I can't afford one. - Karmen Ghia - most fun you could have in a topless classic.

Cherry Baby's History Began This Day Back In 1977!

Happy B/Day from me too !! My treat you can give to MADZ at the Honda meet -
Ok guys We have seen a few threads here on various people's garages and I must admit they are awsome and will always remain just a dream for me. But having said that......what are your dream garages like? But lets try to be practical here, because most of these people seem to collect these cars purely for the status and the investment value it seems. First and foremost the garage should be within my reach (no Ferraris for me ) and my ideal garage should have a "manageable" number of vehicles (so that I could find the time of day to drive and enjoy each and every one of them). Also the vehicles in my garage, I should be able to use the way I want to use them. Not to have it parked 90% of the time and then during the remaining 10% of the time worrying that something would happen to it during my use. So lets here from you all....
-
Damn!!! This is certainly depressing But...When does he get the time to drive and enjoy all these cars ??
-
LOL try........"whats up bru, ain't life lekker on the fast lane" (what's up brother, isn't life fantastic on the fast lane)

Actually there are a few around. Some owners don't race them though. We have quite a number of DTMs also Italian exotics are getting quite boring as they are too common on the roads.

Hi Don What I have is the LN106 - South African version. The stiff ride can be solved to a certain extent by replacing the springs and shocks with OME springs and shocks. There are other after market products available, but OME are the ones I have fitted on and they have some what solved the problem. It does not completely remove the problem though, and you will have to endure some stiffness. I have come across people who have changed the spring set up completely and got the ride to be very soft, but this also compromises the idea behind the original design, making it less capable. Another idea you could think of though is to install front seats from a vehicle such as a Pajero which has a shock. This helps a lot. The 4x4ing/camping life style is catching on in SL and if you like the outdoors and enjoy visiting places such as Yala, Kumena, etc. then this is one of the best vehicles you could have. The cruiser (80 series up wards) are wonderful vehicles, but IMO over priced and out of reach for most of us. The Hilux is equally capable. Enjoy! Cheers

Hi Don I would rate the Hilux as a more affordable version of the Cruiser. Very capable and ultra reliable. Tough as nails. Not the most comfortable of off-roaders available and certainly not the fastest, but certainly the best. I have one of these (the South African version) which I have built for over landing (bush travels). Over the years I have done over 400,000km of hard off-road travel (even taken part in some off-road competetions) and to date this vehicle has not given me any problems. I also have two other 4x4s of different makes and whilst they are certainly more modern with all the creature comformts which the Hilux does not have, they are not half as tough and capable as the Hilux. I would suggest the diesel version of the Hilux, if it is for more serious off-road use you are interested in. Cheers This is not my Hilux, nor is the dame ......got it off the net.
