  1. What is this, all about phones and nothing to do with autos????? Is this phonelanka.com or autolanka.com ???????
  2. Thanks Sylvi . So the "10PSI for every 1000rpm" theory sounds about correct even with your view of a range of 10-40PSI, as an engine would idle at around 750rpm (10PSI) and would rev upto around 3000rpm (30PSI) when driven and go even upto 40PSI at a cold start and stabilise to a lower PSI when warmed up. Wonder if any other "knowledgeable members" could give some more insight to the topic specially with reference to engine capacities, cylinders, diesel or petrol etc etc?
  3. There was a guy in NZ who was running his Pajero on the discarded oil he obtained from Fish and Chip shops. He did some simple purification like straining out the fry particles and was running the vehicle without any problems.
  4. Does it have a ground clearence of at least 215mm, and what type of 4WD system does it offer ie AWD/ Full time, High /Low range ratios or something much more advanced????? The Model X seems more a "tarmac SUV" rather than a serious off-roader SUV. Looking at the tyres I see they are low profiles which suggests the X Model is not designed for off-road activity. True off road performance of the Model X is anyones guess!! If the Model X can claim a slot for off roading amongst Land Rover, Land Cruiser and Montero etc then I'll definitely be looking at the Model X. Not otherwise. It will be interesting to note what Jeremy Clerkson and popular 4WD magazines will say about the X Model.
  5. Teslas can handle the tarmac but do you think these current Teslas will be able to tackle roads in our national parks which I frequently do and that includes river crossings as well. So even if these current Tesla models were available in SL I wouldn't be attracted at all. The vehicle that would attract me is a "go anywhere vehicle" capable of taking me to work in the city and capable of taking me on adventures to the remote interiors of Sri Lanka ie SUV/Jeeps which offer luxury and comfort on road while also offering ruggedness off road which I reckon the current Teslas will not be able to do at all! For that matter even a Jaguar XF which you have mentioned wouldn't do for me leave aside the "average toyota". So till Tesla comes out with a SUV/Jeep I'll give the Teslas a miss. For anyone concerned about the CIF value and running cost of a vehicle the best option is the Tata Nano!!!
  6. Wonder when Tesla will come out with a SUV/Jeep to challenge the current heavywights, specially in SL, such as the Land Rover, Land Cruiser, Montero etc??????? Till then I'll give the Tesla a miss!!!!
  7. What are the ideal ranges the engine oil pressure should be at ie. between a cold start and hot idling? Would it vary from engine to engine on criteria such as capacity and also between diesel and petrol engines in general? When the engine reaches operating temperature is it acceptable that for every 1000rpm a pressure reading of 10psi increasingly accordingly is a safe standard to go by regardless of capacity or whether the engine is diesel or petrol? Your views "Honorable Experts"?????
  8. Vent may be set to "fresh" instead of "recirc" as mentioned above. When did you last clean your A/C pollen filter under the dash? If that is clogged cooling efficiency is slow and reduced along with a pungent smell.
  9. Nano finish is not a replacement to the regular waxing and polishing. Whether the car has Nano Finish or not waxing and polishing needs to be done if not the finish of the car will also be "finished" soon. Since the subject of Tata Nano also signifies here, did any of you guys watch the entire manufacturing process of the Tata Nano on Megafactories on the NatGeo channel? You wouldn't beleive as to what processes the Nano goes through in manufacture, including a total rust protection in a dip bath.
  10. Call Dilrukshan on 0729958780 he is my AC repair guy whom I can 100% recommend, is not a rip off, does the job at your own house and will give you solid advice on what to do.
  11. GDI engines have one coil each for every spark plug. If one of those coils malfunctions then too the engine developes a miss and the pulling power is also reduced specially under load such as going up on an incline . I had the problem and changed the defective coil and it worked fine thereafter.
  12. Well I wouldn't call this "prominent garage in the Town Hall area" "cheap" nor "good" for engine tune ups or for their "specialty" anymore!
  13. The "relevancy" my dear friend is that "the prominent garage at Town Hall" NOW seems very dubious going by my experience, be it for an engine tune up or anything else that they do.
  14. The "prominent garage in the Townhall area" you refer to WAS really good at allignments sometime ago. Not anymore. Personal experience. I took my Montero Sport for a tyre change to them ( got the Yokohamas from the agents). There was nothing wrong with the allignment and tyre wear on the old tyres all round was perfect. Anyway with the new tyres I got the wheels balanced and then wanted the allignments done. They hooked it up onto their computer and then these guys told me that my allignments were way off and inquired whether there was any uneven tyre wear, steering pull etc etc I said there were no problems and asked them to have a look at the old tyres. Then they told me to take the vehicle to some fellow in Nugegoda near the Over Pass and get some adjustment done and the Foreman wrote in sinhala on the wheel allignment report "Nool thuna bagin depaththama navanna" and asked me to take it for the adjustment. I had none of it, as why should something be "bent" when there was nothing noticeably wrong with the vehicle? I took the vehicle to another place at Panadura which is very popular in that area, and without doing any adjustments and neither telling them what happened earlier got the allignment checked and found there was no "bending" required and the allignments were done. The vehicle runs perfect. The " prominent garage in the Townhall area" now seems to be having less work compared to the work they had a few years ago and could be they are trying their hand at various new things which the standard and quality could be anyones guess. My two cents worth of advice is do not patronise them as they are now becoming dubious.
  15. Hi Guys Wonder how the Fiore Club is doing????? I am new to this forum and saw about the club rather late, anyway would love to join if the club is still up and about! I have a 1.5 GLX S/W full option bought brand new in 1988 and been with the family since then been driven only by me and my father.
  16. Odo meter could be clocked BUT a sure sign of high usage is the wear on the pedal rubbers, steering wheel (of course a cover may have been used!) and horn button area, and shift lever knob, light and wiper switch markings. Usually no one bothers to change the pedal rubbers shift leaver knob and wiper and headlight leaver marking even if they wind back the odo! A car with excess of 100,000kms will have worn out pedal rubbers whereas a car which has done a genuine 30,000ks will have the pedal rubbers almost intact. So if you see a car with 50,000ks BUT with worn peddle rubbers, erased light switch markings and a worn out sfhift leaver knob, it's a sure LEMON! Just my two cents worth from experience!
