  1. I'm, no expert in both... but, Swift looks nicer to me... Demio seems a bit lower (low ground clearance).... which one is economical i wonder...
  2. I think comparing carinas and Peugeots is baseless as well as useless since they serve for different segments as I understood, or 'not in the same league' as Ripper mentioned. I remember there was an argument for Toyota vs Nissan sometime back which leads to nothing at the end of the day, b'cos buying a car is more or less a personal choice. Since Hiran has made up his mind to go for a Carina, we should help him to buy a good one. To point out few things; AT211 - Si - 1.8L version AT212 - Ti - 1.5L version AT210- GT - 1.6L version (race version, not economical but fun to drive) These models are manufactured in 97 and 99 which have some distinct variations like the front grill, rear lights etc. (Kim may be the best person to differentiate the two models since he owns both 97 & 99) Watch out for the E package version which has no illuminated dashboard, no digital meters, no RPM, 4 nuts (instead of 5) in the wheel etc. which has a lower market price than normal. (These facts are mentioned by more experienced AL members in different topics, so do a search in the forum...)
  3. The weight factor mentioned by GearHead may applicable to Carina as well. Its a heavy car compared to the other similar cars in its segment. So, the 1.8l version (AT211) may be a little bit good on petrol than the 1.5l (AT212) (not confirmed though... ). And its 2-4 lakhs pricier than the 1.5 version. (depending on the condition, of cource)
  4. drop me a mail at chana1900<at>yahoo<dot>com BTW, what's your vehicle and what's the year of Manufacture.
  5. This is how the OBDII port in my car looks like It is located under the steering wheel, behind a removable panel in the dashboard. Nilantha, you must be referring to an older standard since the OBDII port should be located within 1 meter of the driver according to the US law. As Maithri pointed out, OBD & CAN are a must in USA & European countries. I always had the doubt whether the JDMs are fully complied to these standards although they have the port visible. But, there may be guys who have played around with these ports in JDM cars and we like to hear their experience...
  6. This guy (Nishantha) runs an AC repair joint near Thalahena (Koswatta) and he has some sort of connection with Lal Alawatta also. ( He said Lal Alawatta is providing a guarantee for his Alarm that it is bug free) Gunat, how may I contact the guy you mentioned? I want to see his system too. What are the other places you know of doing GSM Alrms?
  7. I'm searching for a GSM Alarm system for my car. Do you guys know anybody selling these? I found a guy who has developed a GSM alarm system by his own. It's a very basic system which has locking function by the phone and unlock using a micro switch hidden inside the car. And he is asking 30k for this which I feel too much. Share your experience in alarm systems please... Pros & cons of GSM systems over normal ones...
  8. Thankx 6208, Got lot of info via wiki links. I managed to find the port in my car (Carina 211, YOM 2000) under the dashboard, behind a removable panel. It's a 16 pin female port, similar to the specs given in wikipedia, so I think it should be OBDII standard. Need to find more about this... Where can I buy accessories to fit into this port in Sri Lanka?
  9. I saw a cool gadget (ScanGuage II) in amazon.com which displays whole lot of gauges (Fuel economy, throttle position, battery voltage, coolant temperature etc.). But it needs to have an OBDII port (On-board Diagnostic port) in the vehicle. Are the vehicles imported to Sri Lanka, specially JDMs, equipped with this port? Has anybody played around with this port? Link to the product is here.
  10. Hey Kim, Many happy returns of the day....!
  11. Many happy returns of the day...!
  12. Daihatsu Cuore... 15 or 16 sri. Small car, easy to drive, ideal for ladies (my mother, sis and wife learned driving in my cuore which is 97' 300-xxxx) almost all the cuores imported brand new so should be in somewhat good condition. Hard to find though...
  13. Well, sorry if I mislead you with the 'economy' factor, still it is just the gut feeling. I'm gonna refill the tank tomorrow after the initial top up I did two weeks back (still has some more left). Has done 500+ kms which is not in heavy traffic, kinda mix, including a airport trip (100km) and I'm a bit hard on the peddle also . My rough calculations say it will be around 9-10km/l. I'm happy if it can do 10km/l in my day to day running. My previous car (Daihatsu Cuore 850cc, manual) could touch 15km/l very easily and it did 17km/l after a tuneup.
  14. Carina Si (YOM 2000, 1.8, Auto).... AL posts made me to choose this over AE110 & Sylphy. Although I had to spend 4-5 laks more, a good decision at the end of the day; enjoying the comfort and the economy it offers.

Any idea on life-time warranty? Is it the product's life-time? And then what is the product's life-time anyway? Can't be forever right?
  16. Thanks.... Anybody knows what 'PWR' and 'MANU' buttons do located near the Transmission Lever.
  17. Thanks Nilantha, The previous owner has done all the services and maintenance at TL and the records are available.
  18. Hi AL Gurus... Finally, I could settle with a Carina Si, Auto, 56k on the clock, from the first owner. If you are interested, pics are here; Carina-1 Carina-2 Carina-3 Carina-4 Carina-5 Thanks Kim, Milindu, Supra_Natural and all the others who shared their invaluable advices and comments to make my choice. As I mentioned, initially I was looking for a AE110 but after AL suggestions, I was looking at Carinas as well. I went to see so many carinas E110s and sometimes FB15s to get some experience during the past two months. And I read almost every post in AL... Well, having said that, I still need ur help to resolve some of the things since I'm not that tech savy. There two buttons near the AT lever 'PWR' and 'MANU'. I can imagine what PWR is but what is MANU and what's the function of it. Any idea...? And, any further recommendations for maintenance, changes or checkups I should do immediately.
  19. Thanks friends for your invaluable comments and suggestions. I feel Carina would be a better choice even though it wasn't in my list. I have seen two types of Carinas, GT & Ti (correct me if I'm wrong). Any difference between them? What is the price range of Carinas these days?
  20. Hy Guys! I'm in two minds whether to buy a Corolla AE110 or a Bluebird Sylphy 2001. AE110 is a bit old and cheaper than the Bluebird but I'm concerned about the ride comfort and fuel efficiency also. What would be the best choice for me.
