I've been using Toyota Corolla CE110 LX (2.0lit Diesel, 1995) for 7yrs overseas and registered under my name. I want to know 1. Can I get a import permit to import the car to SLanka? 2. What's the market price of such car ? (AC, PS, 200,000km, very good mechanical condition) and good interior and exterior Champagne red) 3. What would be the duty Any help, suggestions, comments, criticisum greatly appriciated

I read little bit (cars guide every saturday) and get info from my friends who are members of 4x4 clubs and bike culbs and some are crazy modifiers. I look for the marketing statics etc. Best opinion I can get it just by observing and listening to the people who are interested in Motoring. I agree there are lot of korean SUV and cars in the some because they are cheap, buy on installment payments or leased and sell off after3- 4yrs. Then the people can not afford to buy a new car (students or on the doll) buy those second hands. They are cheap as chips (Very good condition Hyndai Excel for 150000 Rs). But there is a no image. Just check the results of this poll, Why X-trail got only 12% of the votes. Thats what the public opinion

Great comment Velocity, Mitsubusi as a brand struggling in the market, They lossed there image (by memory it was engine failiurs) and some times have to compete with korean cars. There Australian factory is closing down becuase they do not have enough sales. There first Lancers and Pajeros were leaders in japanese car designing but after 1990 it went upside down.

Hi there I do not know much about Trad Sunnies but what I have heard from petrol heads in Aussi driving style, traffic and stopping starting has more effect on the fuel efficiency. Cars with 2.8lit V6s could do up to 10km/lit, if U drive in a flat terrain with no hicups keeping the speed around 80kmph. Same car can guzzle 1 Litre of fuel for 4 kms if U go hard on the accelarator (specially auto). ). 1.5 litre engine probably best suited to Ur freinds driving habits I guess. For example he would accelarate for little time to get up to the speed (what he prefer to drive at) and drive in low rpms after that (in the case of 1.5lit). With a 1.3 lit he would go harder on the accelarator in low gears (high rpms) till he get up to his prefered speed then there would be more fuel consumption in traffic. (This is just a assumption)

There is no propaganda, That's wat the public perception about the Toyota badge in Sri Lanka. When some middle class person get a permit they always try to get a Toyota if it is not affordable they go for other brands such as Nissan. I sort of behaviour is very common in the other countries too (some people blame Toytoas are over priced). There are some cult models ( Nissan Skyline, Subaru WRX, Toyota Supra) tend to hold the second hand value in other countries. But there purpose of cult cars is just for fun driving, dragging and street racing etc but what avarage person expect in SLanka. That's why there is a big demand for even a old model corolla in SLanka. When U compare the prices of same size cars with same options Toyota tends to be the highest but still still sells better than the other models (excluding prestigious brands). That's what the perception of the public thats what there is a after market demand for Toyotas in lot of countries. -
They all have the same flatform I guess. Just minor interior and exterior mods. When they come to Aussi they are called either Corrolla Conquest, Seca, Levin or something else because they customise passenger seat belt anchorage, babyseat anchorage, flat side mirrors and may be different sort of suspension to fulfil the Australian regulations that's all. AE110 in Aussi exactly the same as AE110 in japan with few little modifications

I've been using CE110 corolla (1995 diesel) for nearly 11yrs done 196000km haven't had any problem so far used to do 4000km round trips(in Australia) with family (even not a flat tyre). Still going good and still keep the oil level until next service (every 5000km oil change and 10000km filter change). Though not comfortable as bigger versions of Toyota should be ok for shoter runs (under 100km). (They replace water pump when the timing belt is changed at 100,000km service) -
Thanks 4 the links & there is no argument I meant auto is anything automated (even a clutch) is automatic. I beleive manual means conventional clutch and the gear box so every thing other than that are auto according to the topic . Anyway thanks for the links that improved my knowledge

I agree ( Cos I do not know about the recent trends in SLankan market). I've driven 1.5lit swift which was very good in all the aspects including the built quality and agents (Australia) says 90% of the people test drove the car finished up with buying one. One of my friend test drove Yaris, Hyndai Getz, and swift ended up with buying one of the swifts. How much for a brand new swift in SL -

Hi Good suggestion but how about the resale value in Sri Lanka. Are those suzukis holding on there market price? . But they are good cars and swift is selling very good all around the world but cant compare with corrolla (different in size). I've seen corrolla is the best (fuel efficient, reliable, parts availabilty) that holds the value even after using for 10yrs (I've noticed it in Sri Lanka, NewZealand and in Australia) -
Hi there Why we ignore auto with sequential shift. I prefer that over the others. Preference for auto and manual depends on where U drive or the purpose of the vehicle. If l like in traffic jam I would like to have auto. It is better to have manual if I drive a sports car or in a race or sort of off-roading. Remember even F1 s are not manual

Suzuki swift and ignis are two different models they exist in Australia

Hi there One of my friend using 2006 Mazda 3 (which got 2.0 lit engine in Australia) does 7.5 km/lit on combined has already done 40000km

Hi there One of my friends got 2006 Mazda 3 (2.0 lit/ in Autralia) does 7.5km/lit combined. It has already done 40000km

Hi there, Ur car engine must be having some problems. 2.7Lit V 6 does nearly 7.5km/litres if it was running in a avarage speed of 60kmph with stoping and acclearation at the colour lights (this is a pretty heavy 4x4 weighing nearly 1700kg)

Hi there I use Grand vitara XL 7 which got 2.7lit V6 and longer body (7 seats). It uses 1L/7.5km in the city(Australia). In longer distances (110km/hr) speed it uses about 9.5lit/km (which U can't drive in Sri Lankan roads) The ones U after may be lighter and probably use less petrol. These cars are very good at off road driving and(Narrow body, rear wheel drive with proper low and High in 4x4, built on chasis). People used any suzuki in Australia liked there cars and some of them highly modified for off roading (Generally Australian are crazy on off-roading). Pl google Auto guide to read the reviews on this cars which mention other than the low ground clearance these can handle any terrain which land curisers, Nissan Petrol and Land Rovers only can go. We bought this brand new and done 45000km have not had any problems other than two tyre punctures (which comes with 100000 km or 3 yr warranty and 24hrs rescue). We comparered the prices with the same size korean and other japnese makes Susukis are cheaper and still got the japanese built quality (but not anyway near Toyota). Go to American car websites lot of people own Suzukies appriciated their purchases (whcih has not got a huge brand name). Gunat gave a good comment on this cars under this topic. I do not know about escudo but Brand new grand vitara comes to australia (2.0lit) and 1.6lit(short wheel base two door) are very nice looking and may be better built compare to Honda CRV. But keep in mind they are AWD rather than the old (before 2006) rear wheel drives. Google Suzuki.com and follow the links U can down load the specifications of Ur prefered vehicle

About 2.3-3.0 million CIF for 2006 model, I do not know about the taxes they come with 5 to 6 litre V8 engines (Petrol guzzlers). Is there a limit for engine capacity.
-
Hi there, I saw a 1998 C240 with 98000km selling around 1.3million in New Zealand. The price range is 0.9-1.3 overseas. Just add up taxes etc to get a rough estimate. If any body importing second hands from Europe would be cheaper than that. I do not know the freight cost and taxes. Would this be helpful
-
Good answer But if U buy second hand they(Holden and ford V8) probably the same price as Ur Toyota.
