  1. what's the latest on petrol? i need some juice...have they started distributing??
  2. agree with you on the clean bill. but can you give me some examples on the "brilliant mind". everyone talks of his brilliant mind, but so far i really cannot recall anything specific. Opening up avenues for the LTTE to bring in ship loads of arms, the issues with the long range unit of the army, inability to keep the top people of the UNP inside the party, horning..etc are anything but brilliant...how do you expect someone who cannot control, run a party effectively to run a goverenment?...furthermore..someone so brilliant should be able to conjure up a strategy at least occasionally to win an election, don't you think?

    Flooded Roads

All the more reason to avoid all these customizers and third party installations. (i.e. if you dont like the car as it is, sell it and buy somthing u like )........Thanks for the heads up.....
  4. not only that, most of the times they ask the vehicles in front to switch off thier engines... happened to me once, when i was in front...
  5. thanks...i was listening to it today from around 8.25 to 9 AM, they just played 1 song... the rest was all talk and ads...hoping this is not the case everyday,.... here's the deal....someone who wants to get from the public library round-about to bishops...will have to go all the way to the liberty junction and back..... but to be honest there was less traffic today....takes around 15-20 mins for me to get from Colpity to Fort normally (took 45 mins on Tuesday!!!), but today did it in 5 mins...
  6. dude, can you let us know which station that is..? considering that i tend to get stuck in traffic on a daily basis, could be useful...
  7. ah yes, you need insurance, forgot that....actually i got mine with the freaking covering letter given by the insurance company, hadn't even paid....
  8. yep. you need to go to maligawaththa. it's straightforward, just go to a counter, if i remember correctly all you need is the regsitration book and VIC and some money. 5 minute job.

    Sold With Open Papers

thanks guys, appriciate the answers....will check on the options suggested....
  10. I sold a vehicle a couple of years ago and just signed on the open transfer papers..... now i am a bit skeptical, as i have no idea where it is now and there is a risk of this ending up with you-know-who's gang and being used to transfer explosives or something... what can i do now to protect myself in case the risk materializes? i have complete details of the person i sold the vehicle to, including his name, NIC no and address.
  11. oh..wow....didn't know that.... but i guess with the number of bicycles (unmotored), tractors, lorries etc that are frequent in the left lane, one can always get-away-with an "i was over taking" theory....
  12. not really, in SL we dont have the fast lane rule. the only rule applying to multi-lane roads are that buses and lorries should go on the left lane (so far i've only seen this being implemented on the Colombo-katunayake road). i personally dont bother flashing etc. just wait patently till the left lane is clear and over-take on the left, frankly i am surprised when ppl actually do move over to the left lane and give space...
  13. if anything it should be the otherway around shouldn;t it?
  14. but it will affect the fuel consumption right? bigger the tyre, the more the area, so more the friction........i think.....
  15. i think its the wippers...had a similar problem sometime back, it only happens when you have the wipers on right? i tried various options including upgraging the window washer liquid..didnt work, replaced wipers and all mist and oilyness dissapeared... Could be wrong though...
  16. Well if that was the case, he should step down as the leader and be the chief adviser or something....a "leader" should at least get the support from his own party before even dreaming of getting the support from the majority of the masses.....this takes the topic to a different direction though, maybe someone can open a separate tread.. back to the topic, are you guys aware that we spend 3 times more money importing food than that spent for importing private cars and motor cycles? look up the central bank reports...not that i'm saying it justifies importing more cars.....but the gov at least has got their priorities sorted...and trying to curb the cost of importing food through their programs to increase local food production and the milk thingy.....
  17. what ever the insured amount right? so if the permit buyer insured at the market value, he'd get that, or else if he insured at the price he bough it for, then that's all he gets.....as you say, for those who insured at the actual market value, here's the option to cash in!!! but make sure you jump out of the vehicle first LOL!!!!
  18. totally disagree!!! before someone comments let it be known that i work for the private sector too...however it should be noted that the gov workers get a pretty low salary compared to the private sector. for example docs (who dont engage in private practice) gets only 25k as starting and even the most senior consultants don't get more than 75. and this is after years of laborious studying and coming up on top in class and doing really well in exams and all...in comparison those of us who dont get qualified for the uni's do some private degree or diploma in 2-3 years join the private sector and get paid more. hardly fair....the gov knows this, however they cannot increase sal's due to lack of funds..so they give concessions for their workers instead...its like hotel companies giving low rates for their employees.... and to disagree with the other point...politicians (morons, scum, filth etc,) will continue to get the permit!!!! its only the gov workers who dont get....
  19. yep, do it a couple of time to get a average, also better let it run for as much as possible before refilling. this will make the slight differences you encounter as a result of filling up in different elevations, negligible :-)
  20. Madmax and Lalinda, thanks guys. valuable feedback, really appreciate it...
  21. Are the perodua Kelisa's and the Keneri's better than the similar sized non-Japanese cars such as, the TATA indica's and the small Chevy's. and the cheryy QQ's ? How does it fare against the Micro trend...this is in terms of build quality and durability. not in terms of performance.
  22. yep..spot on..i've tested this on my auto, on an open road just to make sure...(you obviously need a tachometer for this) when i press hard, i notice that the rpm goes to around 3500 before it shifts up. (even more if i really press down) and when i'm gentle on it, it shift around the 2000 rpm mark.... the fact that the car does 16.5 something in outstation conditions goes to show that there;s absolutely nothing wrong with your car.....dont spend anything else trying to improve...its already quite good...just work on your driving style in traffic conds.
  23. Prolly OT, but since this seems to be coming up.... Myths on diesel.. 1. maintenance is frequent and costly - diesel engines actually run slower than the petrols. Therefore less wear and tear. diesels are built for long life! 2. Service is costly - diesels are hardy. they are the typical workhorse, they don't need synthetic oils (do i need to say more) 3. Repairs are costly - the parts costs are more or less the same...so why should this be...? Having said that, i personally feel that in the present market diesels are not the best option..why 1. less performance - a 2000cc diesel will be easily outdone by a 1300cc petrol 2. environment - if you really care i.e. 3. ROI - to give an example, take a 97 corolla. the diesel costs about 500000 more..now assuming the diesel (2000cc) does about 8 kmpl and the petrol (1500cc) does about 10 kmpl in traffic (which is generally the case) it costs Rs. 10.5 per km on the diesel while its about Rs. 13 per km on the petrol. which means you end up saving around 2.5 rs per km. so for you to break even on the extra 500k you spent on the diesel, you need to do at least 200000 kms !!!! so unless you plan on running a cab service, diesels are just not worth it...however if you can get one that is just slightly higher than its petrol equivalent, which is in good condition..go for it!!! P.S. please note that i'm talking about the average diesel engines and not the high end stuff you get in modern SUV's
  24. like Don said, you might not be able to get a good diesel for the budget. but i must say i disagree with the huge cost thingy...a well used and maintained diesel costs less on maintenance and repairs than the average petrol car..i've had a cr41 for over 7 years in the family, and it was only once that it went to a mechanic within those 7 years!!! and that also was to replace some bushes...
  25. The yaris 1.3 auto does about 13 km/l in traffic. (i suppose you need the tame right foot to get those figures)..the vios 1.5 out scores it in outstation drives...where the yaris does about 16 while the vios (manual) does 17-18. i know quite a few yaris's... and quite a few vios's... so this is based on all that...
