  1. Its easier than finding a spongecake from a bakery
  2. Its like comparing apples and oranges. A used iPhone x vs brandnew oranges from the supermarket. Its that different. The crv is a much smaller vehicle. It goes with the mitsubishi outlander, which is below both the monty and the sport. The Montero has tried and tested tech. While the crv has all new tech. And from how the resent hondas did in the market. The gear box issues etc. Its a gamble. The crv has an engine thats half the size of the monty and to squeeze in the horses it has to work hard which will produce early wear on the engine. The montero is a much better vehicle reliable and not that hard to maintain. It has good mid range torque making it easy for overtaking than the petrol rivals. But the monty suffers from some bodyroll in the corners comapre to softroaders. The only issue is that for your budget you wont be able to find a well looked after 2013 one. Ive been on a search for a friend and those in your budget have been hacked to death A good example may fetch close to 10million or more so if your not going to go there you might as well go to the other alternative. But what i can asure you is a well maintained 6year old montero will last more than a crv rolling of the factory. It will have less problems, and they would be easily sorted. Will be more spacious. Will hold much better value come resale time. Its more prestigious (compared to the crv). More road presence. Its a proper offroader with low ratio and diff lock if you fancy even once in a while. Been using montys for around 15 years and never let me down.
  3. Thanks everyone for the replys Yes the x is not big but i teally love its looks. If its ok in the maintainence department and i find a good indipendent mech thats the one id go for. What to look out for in these. (I've always wanted to own a jag). I dont mind the long front end of the 407 and its the only diesel option here i love the diesel Torque. A crown of this millennium is probably out of my budget. You mean the green aristo right. Its kind of old and the gs would be way out of this budget. Mark x is also a good option if there is a mint one. Not looking for a sporty car tough. A good v6 with not that firm suspension is good.
  4. Im planning to buy a luxry barge. Not much concern about the fuel economy but it should be reliable. It would mainly run long distance but ocasionaly. My budget is 2 - 3.5 million may pass the mark for a really good example The Jag x type is in the top of my list. Those having experience on the big cats please share some info on the maintainence cost and indipendent specialists etc.. The cefiro is the safe bet a 2006ish facelift is on my mind in this case. Any info on it. The pros and cons. While on nissan the skyline. Well really love to own one because of the name. Considering a 2002 ish g35. Its more related to the cefiro than the r34(which is too old for me) but still is a skyline by name. Peugeots are also on the list havent got much of an idea but what aboutthe 607. Also as a sensible chice the 407 diesel. And those in the know please share some info on the indipendent specialists and maintainence. Another totally bonkers choicewould be an old 1999 ish s class. It would be a money pit but to what extent. Anyone having openioms on Toyota camrys Verossa and Markx Other recomendations are also highly valued
  5. Oh no im sorry i apologise, They can use them on sunny corrola and lancer a4 and elentra days too
  6. Then there will be a huge inflow of vehicles and the rupee will drop even more. The dollar will rise to 300. Keeping old cars running is a good thing for the middle class. They can use them on a rainy day.
  7. Yep every time I hear the word I think of this. It'll eat up all your cash. The crv or the eclipse cross are better options. BTW the non permit price of the eclipse cross is close to 10mill. Which comes close to the price of a 2013 montero. So if I were you I'd bring an eclipse cross sell it and buy a Monty. Well it's the baby suv vs the flagship.
  8. I'll just say ask a x trail owner about the gearbox
  9. If you are concerned about the fuel economy and need a good SUV with road presence you should go for a mid sized alternative like the Montero or the prado. If you have a liking towards the easy to maintainence with no useless electronics that could go wrong. Go for the 5L model prado or the 4m40 Montero. You can get a 2013 example for 10 to 12 million. Less than a LC100 of around 2000. And if your ok with manual the manuals do in excess of 13kmpl long run and around 10kmpl in Colombo. From my experience in the 4m40 and they are very easy and cheap to maintain.
  10. Pressurising to running pressure was done. No oil in the coolant. All horses clamps radiator cap and water pump replaced in the overhaul around 40 000km ago. No root cause identified Last option was to dismenttal and check the head gasket which was replaced with a genuine one around 40 000km ago. Some say it could crack.
  11. Checked the cap and did a pressure check. All were ok Also checked the water pump and radiator all is ok. The mechanic had told only the oil cooler system is left. What about the liqui moli stuff. I was told it only seals at places it's exposed to the outside air
  12. One of my friends who has a pajero intercooler had a coolant leak. He had checked the radiator all the horses etc and the water pump and there was no leak. He has checked for any signs of leak around the car and there was none. It had been completely overhauled around 40000km ago using genuine parts bought from the company. And properly run in afterwards. There were no issues up to now. This is a very slow leak around 500ml every 500km and the system has more than 8L of coolant. It's been always used and topped up with coolant. And it has never been overheated. He is considering using a coolant leak sealer. Went to the internet and saw some positive reviews on a product called k seal. Is there a product like that in sri Lanka. If so where to buy and is it worth a try.
  13. What I mean by fake is not adding the original parts I mean those places who make spoilers etc look alikes of the original and stick stickers on them.
  14. I actually made a list of 10. I didn't put the Porsches as they were kind of way more expensive. Well the others were put in kind of a representative way. What's said on the sera is relevant to cars like the Levin, sunny and civic hatches. And the c class one goes with the Beemer cabriolet. Anyways if someone is into them write a small note on them too for completion
  15. Hope these will be useful. To all you who are trying to make out with a low life chick or having a midlife crisis. Additions criticism and remarks are highly appreciated
  16. 9. The CRX was a good honest Honda coupe of its time. But they are old and being disgraced by it's younger brother the crz. 10. And last and the least the Crz. It was told it was the replacement of the crx which was a ok car. So that hybrid badge will chase away all the chicks but will it be of use at the fuel station. No. It has so called 3 modes but whatever mode you are in you'd be lucky if it does more than a ICE corolla 110. Not much performance either. But the zf2 with the additional omph in the s+ button will give some attitude specially like using KURS but that's not available in the zf1. The door handles break easily and the silver wears off quickly. Honda introduced it as a hybrid that was available in manual transmission those days. but how many of you would buy a manual crz in your midlife crisis. But if you are going to buy one go for a manual because it has the troublesome dual couch auto from the vezel grace etc. And like the 86 don't be fooled by the fake mods that the youngsters hang on these to well get the chicks. And don't be fooled by the mods they hang after totalling the front or rear ends. Mugen cars have a special plate in the drivers side door and check for authentisity if someone claims. Don't be fooled by panchikawatta bodykits and spoilers with stickers and lights on them. Like Chinese iphone replicas. This is the same as the gt86 TRD. Honda designers made the front look like a grace and the rear like an insight. So you can call it the PARTIALinsight or the DISgrace. It's down in the list because of its not a good hybrid nor a good sports car and it didn't live up to the level of its predecessor. And for the price of buying a 5 year old one you can buy a brand new s660 which is actually a better car of this type.
  17. Now comes the bad ones 7. Gt86 it's a called one of the best handling sports cars by a renowned automotive show which was stared by some one with a name close to mine. But how relevant for your midlife crisis or to your low life chick who gets in the car with the most bling. So it's not worth the 8million plus used price tag in sri Lanka also considering how much they are molstered for their age. They are actually raped so the it has the highest age to rape ratio. And don't believe in the crappy local mods they have. Most will claim TRD etc but check for their authentisity. So this goes lower down the order. 8. The c class coupe, Audi A5 , BMW 4 coupe are too expensive for it's impracticality. So it goes down. It's not possible to take 2 kids in the school run. They can't jump out of the rear doors while hovering around the school gate. And you can't take your mom to the hospital. It's better to buy a practical c class sedan and a coupen convertable for the price of one of these.
  18. 3. The Toyota sera is a great car but unmolstered ones are rare to come by and also they are too old so goes down the list. 4&5. The Mazda mx5 is the car that made this category what it is today but old ones are hard to come by and the new ones are too expensive. 6. The Hyundai coupe and Tubron are all around good cars but they didn't age well due to the flimsy plastics of that era. And some didn't come with airbags. But the 2l motor is reliable but not sporty. And 2L makes it a little bit thirsty.
  19. 2. When you hear about a rear wheel drive mid engined car you think of things like Ferraris and lambos which are not even available for 35 million. But here you have the s660. The s660 has all of the above but has even less space than the coupen and the only place to store even a handbag is the place where you should store the roof. Speaking of storing the roof it's manually operated unlike the coupen. The ease of maintainence is like the coupen. So it's number 2
  20. 1. Of the lot coupen is in the top of the list because of its convertable hardtop. Definitely it's difficult to believe you get a convertable for that price of starting from around 3.5 mill. It's got a small 650cc Kai engine so it's not fast but with the low weight of the car and the low weight of what can be taken inside (you'd have to transport lead to transport a good weight in this ). The upside is it's economical on fuel cheap to run and maintain. It shares internals from more common dihatsu Kai cars it's also a plus point. It's available in few styles such as the Cross play, Cero and Robe. There are few packages were there are few quality touches like Recarro seats. The downsides are it's strictly a 2 seater. And if you decide to bring some murunga for dinner for your shopping trip you'll have to keep the boot open. The boot is that small. What more will you expect for 3.5million brand new
  21. As I list I've chosen 1. Dihatsu coupen 2. Honda s660 3. Toyota sera 4. Mazda mx5 (old) 5. Mazda mx5 ( new) 6. Hyundai coupe 7. C class coupe 8. Toyota gt86 9. Honda crz 10. Honda crx. Let's add more as we go along.
  22. With the recent taxing scheme there has been a rapid inflow of 2 door so called sports cars. And I just thought I'd put some of them head to head with some of the old 2 door cars that we had in the country. The likes of the dihatsu coupen Honda s660 the c class coupe vs the old dogs such as the gt86 crz fairladies and all. I've text driven some of these at sales and thought of making a list of the pros and cons of each while considering the value for money also considering the cost of ownership and maintainence. So if your a teenager trying to set up with a chick or having a midlife crisis. This is for you. I started this as even with the influx of the dihatsu copens and Honda s660s didn't create much activity at autolanka. If there is anything to add or reject your comments are happily accepted.
  23. Im not a fan of honda but its nice to see the 2 sisters side by side. Your policy regarding using original filters and servicing under direct suprvision of ourselves is my policy too. Companies do mistakes like other services too. As long as you are watchie closely during the major proceedures they can be avoided
  24. Not related to vehicles but noticed the Honda ebk 2000 generator in the garage rotting off for more than 5years. It was a PH off with nothing much to do so took it out. The base was totally rotted off and the fuel tanks smelled like rat pee. There was even a snake skin and rat droppings all around. Well it had more biodiversity than the vilpathtu. Call me by a politicians name but i had to remove all the wildlife away from the motor. I didnt think it would start but i decided to give it a try or send it for scrap. So i drained the rat pee from the fuel tank and put Rs. 100 worth of super petrol in. Then was the moment of truth. Pulled the starter and abracadabra it started. And it didnt even miss a beat. I couldnt understand if it was running on the power of its motor or the power of its dreams So gave it a clean up changed the oil and started it again. Now in the comfort of the ac run buy the power of the said genny i decided to give it a tribute. And a tribute to how reliable things were back in the old days. Well it was a good thing honda didnt mate it to a dual cluth gearbox or an integrated motor assist. That made the downfall of hondas reliabilty. The only assist it got is by my biceps for starting which is mind you smaller than your tensor tympany. And with the Rs. 100.00 of super petrol its running the house with a 9000btu ac for around a hour now without even missing a beat. Sound much better than a crz which i hear some days in the morning which sounds of a major engine misfire in the morning. I cant understand what happened to hondas reliabilty. How reliable they were those days. With that said Fernando Alonso wouldnt have gone sunbathing if honda made things reliable like in the good old days.
