  1. Hi Guys, Not sure if you remember my last thread about the best SUV for about 4.5-5.5....thanks for everyones advice, my parents have narrowed down the search to the Hyundai ix35 (the new name for the Tucson) and the Toyota Rush...I know we're talking about a slightly different league of cars ...SUV and mini SUV, but I'd like to get your opinion on: - Fuel Economy (I've heard for combined running : ix35 10 km/l, Rush 12 km/l) - Resale Value : I think its know that Hyundai's don't hold their value, I'd say it will lose about 5 lks to a million in three years (this is what I've seen in the resale 2006/2007 Tucsons). However I have no idea about the Rush, any one know how much a 2/3 year old rush goes for these days (and how much it would have been bought for), I am taking come comfort in the fact that its a Toyota. - Maintainence / Cost of Running : What do you think will be cheaper to maintain, I expect the Hyndai to have less issues as its brand new, where as the Rush will be recondition..but should still have trouble free running for a couple of years. Also, The Dhaitsu Torries is essentially the Rush...and you can buy this Brand New, does anyone know how much they cost? And where they are built, Japan or somewhere else? Thanks again for everyones help...
  2. Guys...thanks for all your relies.....so you guys really think the Rav4 won't lose any value while the Tucson will? What sort of Rav4 can I get for the 5 million mark? Would I be able to get a used 2007 model by any chance? Thanks...
  3. Hey mate.....I hear what your saying about the Rush...but I can't really sell that to my parents...from their point of view they get the high clearance, good fuel economy and good price.....I like the Rav4 and think its the best in terms of resale values but form calling up a few car sales they start at about 6 million recon.. So compare that to 5.2 for the Hyndai.....three year guarantee so piece of mind for three years, say you buy with the plan to sell in three years....the Rav4 will sell, if we assume nothing else changes (eg taxes, etc) for around 4.5-5...say 1.2 million depreciation....the Hyndai would probably go for about 3.5-4...probably more...again 1.2 depreciation....so can't really justify the Rav4 in terms of resale value when you have the guarantee, grand new car, and lower cost of the hyndai...would you guys agree with my figures? How much do you guys think the Sportage goes for? Bar the master/slave comparison...I can't really think of any other reason not to look at the sportage...also in the UK they started giving seven year guarantees with their cars (compared to five year hyndai).....wonder what it is in SL. Thanks again for everyones comments....
  4. I called up the hyndai company today and the Tucsons (coming in with their European name now i35) starts at 4.6 (basic manual) and 4.8 (basic auto), takes about three months for delivery but they have a shipment coming in next month on which two of the vehicles haven't been reserved. I think my parents really like this, anyone have any comments on : - Running costs? - Reliability - Agents service, are they good quality or do they try to rip you off - I know for Honda's there is a garage in Malabe that is as good as going to the agent, is there anything similar to Hyandai? Thanks again for everyone's comments.
  5. Thanks again guys for the advice, my parents prefer to go for a recon or brand new vehicle just for peace of mind......they are old and they don't really have anyone to take care of these things for them whilst I am out of the country, so I prefer for them to go for a reasonable brand new/recon vehicle. I agree the Freelander is a really nice vehicle but spares, etc will be pretty expensive and the brand new one will be out of the price range, won't it? Anyone here own the new tucson and have any advice? I have read a lot about the older model's reliablility, etc but most of them seem to be resolved in the new model. Also, can anyone confirm if the new one is still 4 mil + Vat? Thanks again.
  6. Thanks for the reply, how much do you think a brand new tucson will be? Also do they come reconditioned to the market? Sportage and the Tucson, is there really much of a difference?? And what about spare parts and maintainence costs for the tucson, what is your experience with the Santafe? Again thats for the advice...
  7. Hi Guys, I am trying to help my parents decide on a new car, I am not in Sri Lanka at the moment so can't go around to car sales and check out prices, etc... Basically my parents want to sell their car and buy an SUV was my dad has trouble getting in and out of the car as its pretty low. Looking at possibilities, I was looking at the Toyota Rush and the Rav4, from what I've seen in the classifieds and the forums the Rush is around 4.8? Is that a fair market value? How much would a unregistered Rav4 go for? Any other suggestions, I was thinking for the Kia Sportage and the Hyndai Tucson, any idea how much they are and how petrol efficient they are? Thanks in advance..
  8. Guys...do all es1, es5 and es8's have vti engines? or is that an option? Thanks
  9. jaga...thanks for the reply.....what model comes out of the japanese recon market? If you had the option, which would you go for? Second hand es8, es5 or the ones from the japanese markets? Also....can some PM me details of good honda mechanics pls. Thanks
  10. Hi, My parents are looking to buy a car, they want to spend between 2-3 million, I've been trying to push them towards the Honda Civic. But not sure which one would be best value for money.......es5 or the es8........what are the market prices for them? From my research, es8's go for about 2.2-2.5 and a es5 3-3.2. Can anyone comment about the fuel efficiency, maintainence cost and overall ownership experience of the two cars please? Also, could anyone recommend a good honda mechanic in the colombo area? Thanks.....
  11. Hey Velocity...thanks for the reply again.....so I can get the new 2008 Corolla in the reckon market? any idea how much it wil be? When you say the new Allion will be around 5.8, thats brand new? I called up Toyota Lanka and they wanted 5 mil for the new Corolla........which I think is way too much for a Corolla, taking into consideration that the Lancer and Sunny are far cheaper...... When you recommend me to by a new models only....do you mean by them brand new or get the latest models in the recon market? Can I get around getting cheated by dealers by saying that I have to get the car checked out by the agents before I buy? Finally I still have a thing for SUV's......any idea how much i can get a 4/5 year old Toyota Herrir/Lexas RS300 for? Thanks....
  12. THanks machang for the reply....... When you say the Corolla model has changed on the recon market, what is the new model, the 2005? I've heard that Toyota Lanka are going to get the new 2007 model in shortly....how much would one cost on the recon market? And how much trust would you place on the dealers, are there any to avoid? ( I know your not suppose to post names on here, if you don't mind can you message me if you think there are certain agents I should avoid). Ok so the 407 is off the table then, the Allion seems like a nice car, how much is the new model on the recon market? The reason for going for the X-trail was for space reasons and the fact that its a suv....would love to go for a sti but afraid its not very practicle at the moment as I am not the only one that will be driving the car....
  13. Hi All, Let may start by saying this is a great site, glad I found it! I am looking to buy a car/SUV for around 4 Mil, was considering the following: 1. Toyota Corolla 2. Mazda 3 3. Toyota Allion 4. Used Nissan X-trail 5. Peugeot 407 (not sure how much these go for, any idea?) If I went for any of the first three I was looking buying brand new, just for peace of mind, my concern about buying a recon from Japan is that how much can you trust the history/milage? I've heard about the certificate that importer must get from the Japanese authorities (forgot the name of it), how much trust would you place on it? Ideally I would go for a x-trail but they are too expensive both brand new and recon, I've seen a couple for 3.5 mil in the selling section, what do you guys think, should I go for a used suv or a brand new car? I think out of the cars the best for me would be the Mazda 3, only concern is the fuel efficiency, has it improved in the new models? anyone know the going price for these at the dealers? Thanks..........
