Thanks for the quick response!
Yes, it is the unit behind the dash. "Cooler" is the term the mechanic said. I too am holding off the repair for the time being, but my issue is what happens to the interior, which btw is in very good condition, when driving without the A/C in Colombo. And the gas leak is significant because when checked with N2, the pressure drops by about 50% within 15-30 mins. So no A/C whatsoever, and I'll have to do this soon.
The labour charges they said is around 15k, but they also said something about compressor fluids (not sure what this is), and gas, and a full cleaning and servicing of the system would account for the rest. But if I get a genuine evaporator unit for 25k, + 15k for labour will be around 45k noh? So given Mazna's expertise do you think this extra is reasonable? The car is in good condition but isn't new. Sorry I forgot to mention this earlier, it's a 2008 and done 137k km. I'm the 3rd owner, but apparently the evaporator is still the factory fitted one according to the other A/C guy.
And yes, for all my previous repairs I have been there in person, so I'll be there when the reassembly is done. The main concerns I had was the dash removal and reassembling process and of course the price, so thanks for the input on that! and of course the concern if some other part failing or something else going wrong after the repair because all the stories people say about A/C problems.
I'll post any updates on the matter when I do this.
