    Headlamp Cleaning

Guys, I need to clean my plastic headlamps at home.. it's not badly yellowed, but darkened enough for me to attempt this DIY.. I couldn't find a detailed description in AL of anybody who has successfully done the job... web gives advice for cars in US.. Appreciate advice from someone who's not busted the job...
  2. Phew.... I was seriously considering dropping a word of advice on being dead drunk during day time..... By the way Mona, have you found the English translation of these two short stories by any chance??
  3. May be we've all interpreted this wrong.... SL govt is probably doing nation building .... it's just that they've not specified which Nation it is...
  4. I did felt like trying this, but didn't want to mess up the engine big time.... Thanks a lot for the advice mate...
  5. Guys, Was at Kl**n P**K last week and got to know about a system that cleans engine oil and possible sludge from the system. Apparently, a synthetic oil is circulated to clean out the residue, prior to filling the sump in the usual manner. Heard this is available at P*t S**P as well... Question is, has any one used this? if so, what are the pros & cons for short term & long term, of doing such a cleanup?
  6. Relax mate... have mercy on poor souls struck with such beauties but are struggling to find an official care taker...
  7. Assuming u'd have done a round of 230-240km, that'll come to about 18-19/l ..... that's the best I've heard for a laser.... though must admit I'm not an expert on the subject.... If the pickup is great & mileage fantastic.... well.... don't sell that car for the next five years...
  8. Isn't this an opportunity for some enterprising guy to take over the dealership.....?
  9. well... he can be in a Maruti & you in a Montero....
  10. ....and you insist on living in US??...... mate, in this paradise, the fine is 1/100th of that, you don't loose any points... and you don't need to know the cops..... of course you'll have to cheerfully tell the cop that you understand the money handed over to him will be duly paid to the govt..and he's doing this purely as a favour to help save precious time for you...

    Claim Insurance - Info

As per insurance agents, sum insured should be at least 85% of the market value ( which they decide by their divine powers!) for the full claim amount to be eligible in the first place... and as Ripper said, the finer deductions depend on the insurer.... this from my experience depend a lot on which garage you go to, how you want to get about the settlement, etc... this is the practical side, don't know how the internal procedures work... ) As per the collision repair centre.... the queue is overloaded, and they've imposed restrictions for the age of the car (less than 7yrs, I believe) and insured value (over 1.5Mn)... of course the fellows conveniently forget to tell U that in the ads..... One other thing, one company says that U get no claim bonus regardless of the no of accidents you have.... quite true.... bonus is deducted only if you CLAIM...... So watch your step guys, and drill the insurance agents inside out to get as much details as possible on how different situations will be handled.... and check your policy docs to verify the truth !!
  12. Ha! the guys are high tech now..... it won't be long before we'll be asked to bribe the speed cops online.......
  13. Check this link out, if you are interested in the legal version: http://www.police.lk/divisions/traffic_act...to_be_taken.asp
  14. Conspiracy or not, the fact remains that the vehicle was travelling at a speed which is way beyond the suitable speed for that particular road... At over 120k, is there any vehicle that would have saved those lives? another (probably wasted) reminder that it's the driver... not the car scenario... (On the brighter side, for once, hats off to those bribe seeking cops who does keep us slowing down fron time to time on tempting stretches.
  15. Personal experience.... 1.6l version civic..... 7-8 in Colombo traffic... around 13-14 outstation flat track..... 10 in hill country.... like to know what the figures for Allion would be..... and more importantly, whether it'll have the same Driving pleasure... 10 seems a bit low, if we are talking of a drive on low country.... better change the driving style a bit mate....
  16. See the difference an 8-inch ball can do to you, guys........
  17. You mean "fuel" economy? Seems the 121 and Allion.... rest are said to be below 10 in city. (but did come across one who said his Yaris did 11-12, but he doesn't travel during peak traffic in Colombo).
  18. Approximately 7 & 12 respectively, as per several users I happen to know... was quite shocked to hear that.... I'd really like to know the reason for this poor situ.... (Power to weight ratio, etc..)
  19. Great! I'll buy; provided that it's of the same condition as a Brand new CIVIC Can't really compare EGs with this can we... anyway, I don't really go for this maintanance cost difference issue for new cars... all of these come with such advanced technology that it's becoming increasingly difficult for the wayside 'baas' to handle without screwing big time.... the cost of new parts, compared one-to-one, hardly give much difference... I think the main decision factors for those who can afford a new car will be quality of agents plus the preferred model (of course, the former may require a bit of compromise...). It's a bit like meeting your dream girl, who comes bundled with a nightmare mother-in-law
  20. Thanks mate.. it was actually a typo miss.... Question is updated.... Expect these to be the more popular sedan types in SL.. but any reasonable suggestion is welcome... but it has to be a model which is likely to be popular... Remember the rules... only the cost of the car is funded.... maintanance is all yours......
  21. Guys, After seeing and hearing different views about the latest models in Sri Lanka from popular manufacturers, thought of asking this Q from you all.... Given there's no cash issue, which of the below cars would you buy? and why? New CIVIC New Lancer Corolla 141 Mazda3 Allion Tiida
  22. Just out of curiosity, why only those models? for that price range, can't you get newer stuff? like the Terios for example..... it's using the Toyota technology now....
  23. As a user of the 1.6l version of the new civic, I can highly recommend the car, in terms of the ride, stabilty & control. didn't have an issue about suspensions and related comfort.... and mate, I do love the two tier dashboad Downside is the high fuel consumption rate of 7-8 /l in city for a car of it's class..... Haven't used the Lancer, or the Mazda3 extensively, so can't compare... one test ride may not reveal every thing a long term user would experience.. Agents.... well I guess there are ethics that we'll have to adhere in our posts, so I won't go into details... but in my case, the preferred agent's new model was an ugly crap, and I had to end with the 'best out of the worst' situ, if you get what I mean.. Decision should depend on what he wants... whether it's to be at least 5-6 years use, the fuel factor, etc.. to me, in terms of driving pleasure and the looks alone, Civic takes the upper hand...
  24. As per the few owners i know, the figure doesn't exceed 9km/l in City. The 1.3l engines wear out a bit more quicker than the 1.5l ones.... mainly 'cos the drivers tend to rev the engines a bit more to get the accelaration... At 176k on the meter, better get the engine conditon checked as well.... (I'm assuming several drivers would have used this down the line....) I've a friend who's got a 1.5l auto, one owner.. well maintained.. done around 100k... and it does about 10 in Colombo!!
